The Clippers seem... limp. Soulless. I don't even think the problem is the injuries to George and Leonard, they just don't play like a team. It's like they have no culture aside from "if we get healthy we can win big". Am I wrong to feel that way?
Dana Gauruder
11:04
Not at all. They have lost 9 of 11 and one of the wins came against Houston. Obviously, it would help if George and Leonard could stay on the court for a sustained stretch. However, the trade for Powell and Covington was supposed to help them get through some of their absences. I sense they may have to do something to shake things up. But given their payroll issues, don't know if it's feasible.

John Collins to the Mavs? Their slower-paced game and Luka's playmaking could really help him turn things around. And what sort of package do they need to get him?
Dana Gauruder
11:08
The fact that the Mavs owed a first-rounder to the Knicks complicates what they can do. I don't think the Hawks are simply seeking cap relief -- they'd probably want a future first-rounder or two plus some guys who can immediately help them. Plus, if Wood isn't part of the deal, how do they fit together? I think Dallas is more likely to seek a wing shooter but if they go after Collins, Hawks would at least ask for DFS or Josh Green.

What's the likelihood that Mavs go after LaVine?
Dana Gauruder
11:11
They could certainly use another dynamic scorer. They could put together a package of salaries to make things match up -- I just don't know if the Bulls will trade LaVine unless they get some first-rounders plus cap relief. Dallas can include Powell's $11MM expiring deal, would they throw in Wood's $14MM too? Not sure on that.

Who is most likely to be traded from the Jazz: Beasley, Conley, or Vanderbilt?
Dana Gauruder
11:15
The trade rumor involving the Timberwolves and Conley made some sense. I still think Beasley is more movable because his salary next season includes a club option. A contender can trade for him and then decide if they want to keep him around another season. His shooting has been down this season but he's 38 percent for his career from 3. Teams are always looking for shooters.

Will the Lakers make a deal by deadline
Dana Gauruder
11:18
Despite their record, it would be bold of them if they DIDN'T make a trade. It would basically telling LeBron and AD the front office has given up on this season. But I don't think they can do anything significant unless they give up Westbrook's expiring contract or those future first rounders they have left.

What are the Wolves going to do with D'Lo?  Trade him at the deadline or resign him?
Dana Gauruder
11:21
My general sense is that they're not sold on Russell long-term. If they can move him before the deadline, I believe Minnesota still wants to win this season with the hope KAT can come back before they fall too far down the standings. But the T-Wolves could also use some future assets after being depleted by the Gobert trade.

Hey, got tickets for the hornets game on the 24th, any word on Melos ankle, and do you think he will be back in time?
Dana Gauruder
11:24
You live in Phoenix? That's where the Hornets are playing that night. Haven't seen any updates on Ball's status since last night but I doubt he'll be back in action again in less than a week.

What would you like to see the Blazers do by the deadline? Try to improve now, make some trades with the future in mind, or just stand pat?
Dana Gauruder
11:27
The Blazers are one of many teams kind of hovering around .500 and their season could go either way. It would help if Payton could get into a groove. I don't sense they're in sell mode. More likely they'll try to fortify their depth to help a pretty good core with Damian-Grant-Simons-Nurkic.

What sort of players could the kings target with the additional second rounders in hand?
Dana Gauruder
11:31
They've got 3 extra ones over the next 3 drafts -- that is helpful. Possibly a fringe rotation player, somebody who could help their second unit in the short term. They've been playing quite well and Barnes, who seemed to be their main trade piece, has been solid this month. Other than perhaps tweaking their bench, I don't think they'll mess with a good thing.

If an Anunoby deal materialized, what do you see the return being? I think the Murray and Mitchell trade comps are enticing as a Raptors fan; O.G. isn't nearly as gifted in offensive skill or grace, but he is a great defender and a good fit for most teams.
Dana Gauruder
11:34
I saw the term "king's ransom" attached to Anunoby and Siakam a few weeks back. I think that's more likely in Siakam's case but I do feel the Raptors could reasonably expect at least a couple of future first-rounders and some young talent on rookie contract and/or vets on expiring deals who could provide some wiggle room this summer in terms of their salary cap. I still think it's more likely they move Trent, who will be looking for big long-term money and has been on a tear lately.

Will Luka Garza develope into a useful rotation player?
Dana Gauruder
11:38
I enjoyed watching Luka play for the Pistons last season. Definitely brings some energy. Had a nice outing for Minnesota yesterday. He's not your prototypical big man in the current NBA and the Pistons gave up on him pretty quickly, but I do think he's good enough to be a second- or third-string big man in the league for a few years.

If I offered D'Lo for Wall and Covington (and maybe a pick) would that be a good idea?
Dana Gauruder
11:42
Is D-Lo the missing piece to a deep playoff run? If the Clippers value him as the floor leader they're missing, then it definitely makes sense. Kind of a roll of the dice but if it doesn't work they can just let him sign elsewhere. However, they owe OKC a bunch of first-rounders, so they really couldn't toss in a firster into the mix.

Is a sign and trade of VanVleet an option?
Dana Gauruder
11:45
After he opts out this offseason? Yes. Can't do it now, he's under contract during the season. Have to wait for the summer for that possibility to unfold.

Dose a Crowder trade happen
Dana Gauruder
11:48
Something's got to happen with Crowder before the deadline, right? I don't think this thing dragged out as long as it has, just to sit out the whole season. Not sure if the Bucks are targeting him but he'd make some sense there.

If you were the Celtics, would you trade for Poetl or John Collins? I would pick Collins, since he can play PF/C, while Poetl will only play C. Collins is also the younger player. In addition, Collins is locked up on contract for the next several years, and Poetl will be an unrestricted FA after this season, and will cost $20M plus to resign, so future salary cost is close. Collins would also cost less in a trade, since ATL is wanting to unload him, while SA is currently asking for multiple 1st round picks for Poetl.
Dana Gauruder
11:52
I like Poeltl's game but your logic is sound. Unless they're worried about R. Williams' knee holding up this season, it's more likely they'd pursue Collins. Plus, the Celtics owe a first-rounder to Indiana, so if the Spurs are intent on getting first-rounders, the Celtics might not be a viable option.

Would MIL entertain moving Middleton since he has been linked to picking up his player option?
Dana Gauruder
11:55
That would be pretty bold on their part. With his health issues this season, Middleton's value may have dropped somewhat. They'd have to find a contender who looks at Middleton as a player who could put them over the top and at the same time the Bucks would have to get players back that would keep them at a championship level. That's a hard sell.

The athletic kind of hinted that the Rockets could explore the idea of moving KPJ at some point…think there’s any truth to that? And any fits there? I can’t help but think that’s best for everyone so we can get a real PG, and he can start somewhere as someone’s 2G
Dana Gauruder
11:58
Don't see that happening now, especially with the extension kicking in. That's a long-term commitment for any trade partner. Now, if they wind up with the second pick and draft Scoot, then I could see that scenario developing.

The Wolves have been a total disappointment after the Gobert trade. What can they do to turn things around besides just waiting for KAT to return?  They weren't playing well when everyone was healthy!
Dana Gauruder
12:00
Trading Russell and his expiring deal is their best hope for shaking things up, if they decide to shake things up. They gave up so many assets for Gobert, they're really in a tough spot. And I don't think they'll entertain offer for KAT and Edwards.
