Thanks for your early questions, guys. I'll try to get through as many as I can!

who is ur favorite for MVP as of this moment?
Luke Adams
12:17
I'd lean toward Luka, though I think the Mavs may need to move up a couple spots in the standings to improve his chances. With so many strong candidates this year, it's hard to imagine voters picking a guy whose team didn't crack its conference's top four.

What can we get realistically for the Expiring contract of Mason Plumlee?  He's putting up solid Stats, but it might be time to turn the Center position over to Mark Williams and Nick Richards.
Luke Adams
12:18
Take back a contract with a similar cap hit and an extra year or two on it and Plumlee is probably worth at least a couple second-round picks. If you're swapping him for another expiring, I'm not sure you're getting much.
Matisse Thybulle
12:19
What is a realistic Trade package we can get for Matisse?  Seems slim he would be back next year.  He's basically a defensive specialist.
Luke Adams
12:22
His offensive shortcomings limit his appeal -- playoff teams might not envision him as someone they could rely on in the postseason, since they'd be risking essentially playing 4-on-5 on offense. But I think he'd have value to a retooling team that wants to try to further develop his offensive game. An ideal situation for the Sixers might be to find a way to move him and another contract (Korkmaz, Springer, etc.) for a solid veteran backup while getting out of the tax.

Hi, would Bev, Nunn, Christie and an unprotected 1st be enough for Anunoby?
Luke Adams
12:23
No.
Tobias Harris
12:23
Where am I playing in March?
Luke Adams
12:24
I expect you'll still be in Philadelphia. Your name pops up in trade rumors every year because you're the most expendable of the Sixers' highly-paid players. But it's not easy to find a good trade match for your contract that doesn't involve Philadelphia taking a big step back on the court -- especially in-season. Maybe you'll finally get moved this summer.
Craptors
12:25
This team lacks ball-handlers and shot creators.  Do you see them Trading away one of their million of clone type, long-wingspan Forwards?  They have like 10 of the same kind of player.
Luke Adams
12:26
It sounds like there's a good chance Gary Trent Jr. will be moved, though I'm not sure he quite fits the bill of the player you're talking about. In theory, Scottie Barnes, Pascal Siakam, and OG Anunoby should be able to play together long-term if at least two of them are making 3-pointers on a regular basis, but that hasn't really happened this season. Still, I don't think the Raptors will give up on any of them yet.

Would Indiana better be served tanking in the long-run? Besides mathurin and Halliburton, are there enough pieces there to build a contender?
Luke Adams
12:30
Haliburton's injury has really hurt them in the short term, but it might be best in the long run. I think they'll end up in the same spot as the Jazz -- not tanking but also just not quite good enough to maintain their original pace. They'll probably land in the late lottery even without a deliberate pivot to tanking, and given the front office's ability to identify talent, that could be high enough to find another core player.

It appears the Clips are done with the Wall experiment. What’s their next move.  They have good contract trade ready contracts for days.
Luke Adams
12:32
It sounds like point guard and center are their top priorities. If they really want Mike Conley, I think they probably have the pieces necessary to get him -- I also wonder if they might be a Mason Plumlee landing spot. He fits the bill of what they want at the five (a reliable veteran backup) and wouldn't be too costly.

12:33
do you think the sixers have enough assets to get a decent 3 and D wing at the deadline?
Luke Adams
12:33
There won't be that many three-and-D wings available, and other teams are better positioned than Philadelphia to offer strong packages for the ones that are. Never say never with Daryl Morey though.

Is MN now stuck? Gobert and KAT are not meshing, which is holding back Anthony Edwards IMO. You see Ant getting frustrated and wanting change once rookie contract is up, if the ship doesn't right itself?
Luke Adams
12:35
I doubt Minnesota would let it come to that. Edwards, more than either of the other two guys, is the future for the Wolves, and no player offered a maximum-salary rookie scale extension has ever turned it down. If I had to make a bet, I'd say Edwards is more likely than KAT or Rudy to be a Timberwolf in three or four years.

Odds that Clifford resigns after the season? He wants to compete for the playoffs and it looks like Charlotte won’t be there for a bit…
Luke Adams
12:37
I suppose the Miles Bridges incident happened after Clifford was hired, but otherwise this group is pretty much the one he signed on to coach, and it looks like they'll be adding a top-five talent to it next year. I doubt he jumps ships so quickly.

Josh Richardson for P. Williams and Coby White...who says no?
Luke Adams
12:39
The Spurs would probably do it. Doubt the Bulls would -- they still believe in Williams.

12:39
Would Jakob Poeltl be an upgrade for the Celtics over Luke Kornet? What would be a realistic package for SA to ask for?
Luke Adams
12:41
Poeltl and Kornet are different types of players. Poeltl is certainly the better overall player, but Kornet fits nicely into Boston's system. I expect the Spurs' asking price for Poeltl to stay pretty high -- San Antonio got a first-rounder and a pick swap from Boston last year for Derrick White. The Poeltl ask would likely be similar.

Denver needs backup big, Nerlens Noel?
Luke Adams
12:44
I don't hate that -- they could match his salary with Ish Smith and another player, and there was a report a day or two ago suggesting they've talked to Detroit about him. Denver is another spot where Plumlee might fit -- he's an extremely poor man's version of Jokic with his passing ability.
Buzz around buzz city?
12:44
What are Charlotte's goals at the deadline? We know they're tanking and selling, but what exactly do they prioritize right now? Do they still care about dumping rozier/ hayward? Do they want to avoid paying mcdaniels or pj or richards? Or with plenty of cap space are they only interested in picks / prospects / fits with lamelo?
Luke Adams
12:46
I expect we'll hear Rozier's name in more trade rumors than Hayward's in the next few weeks. Rozier is an easier sell since he doesn't have Hayward's injury history, but from the Hornets' perspective, it may make more sense to get off his long-term money than to try to dump Hayward, who will be expiring next season. Moving off Rozier would also make it easier to invest in the young guys you mentioned (PJ, McDaniels, Richards), assuming they want to.

Can the Bucks upgrade their backcourt by trading a combination of Allen, Hill and future picks? If so, who would be realistic targets?
Luke Adams
12:50
Milwaukee's ability to trade future first-rounder is limited -- the 2029 pick is the only movable one, and some GMs might not love the idea of getting a pick that far out. Still, if they put that pick on the table along with those two players, that's not a bad package. Allen has at least neutral value, and Hill's an expiring deal.
12:51
Trying to think of a guard on the trade block who makes sense for that sort of package and I'm drawing a blank, especially given the salary limitations. But it's an intriguing idea.

Who is currently on the Utah Jazz roster that you think will be traded by the deadline?
Luke Adams
12:53
Feels like Malik Beasley might be the best bet. Wouldn't shock me if Conley and Vanderbilt are on the move, though I suspect the Jazz would be happy to hang onto them. I'm sure they'd love to move Rudy Gay, but it'll be hard to find any value for him.

The Heat and the Hawks were #1 and #2 in 3P% last season.  This season they rank #27 and #24.  Bojan Bogdanovic?
Luke Adams
12:55
Would love to see the two Bogdanovics on the same team for maximum confusion. Might make sense for the Hawks in some sort of multi-team John Collins deal, though I think they prefer more of a two-way forward. The Heat would probably have to add more than one sweetener to Duncan Robinson's contract to have a shot.
3 team trade
12:55
Any way the Hawks could work out a deal to acquire KAT while trading Capela to another team besides the Twolves (who don't need another C)? Collins could be a part.

  • Hawks D would get worse, but they'd be able to spread the floor more
  • Twolves wouldn't be stuck with 2 Cs
  • Other team would pick up a good defensive C

This question is one of several I've gotten which falls into the category of "This is almost definitely not happening by February 9, but I admire the creativity."
