One under the radar team you think should either make a big addition or blow it up. Bonus points* if you give us one of each.

I don't know if you'd consider the Pacers an under the radar contender but it sure seems like they want to make a big add and give the Bucks, Celtics, etc. a run for their money. Tougher to quantify a team that unexpectedly might "blow it up." The Bulls are currently a play-in team but I could see them swinging some major deals if things go sour the next couple of weeks. If you're looking at perennial contenders, I could see the Warriors maybe doing what they can to trim payroll, especially if they don't improve soon and one of their stars gets injured. Of course, Steph's not going anywhere but I'd the rest of the cast could be had at the right price.

Detroit made a big play for cap space over the weekend, so it looks like they may be trying to emulate what Houston did last offseason. I guess there’s a parallel with Pascal Siakam people are talking about, but I don’t really see it—Houston “overpaid” by giving FVV the max whereas Spicy P is pretty clearly a max player regardless. Who may be some other targets for Detroit, particularly thinking a parallel to the Brooks s&t.
Dana Gauruder
12:08
Power forwards -- Markannen, Siakam, J. Grant.
SF - J. Brown if things go bad for Celtics in playoffs? Ingram?
12:09
PGs -- Murray, Sexton.
Just some possible targets, whether prior to deadline or this summer. The free agent list this year is weak beyond Siakam and a couple others.
Knicks conference finals
12:09
I see the Knicks making it to conference finals nipping MLW in 7 and loosing to BOS. Thoughts?
Dana Gauruder

You are thinking way into the future but not out of the question. I like the Anunoby add. I see the Knicks fortifying their bench in some capacity before the deadline. They could be a dangerous team in the playoffs if their key guys are healthy.

If Celtics come short again this year, do you think a trade of Brown for Kawahi S&T would be a good idea? It is a nice idea for both teams. Celtics get a clutch 2-way leading in Leonard and I think they’ll be looking to move Brown anyway. Clippers get a young locked up all nba player to fill seats in the new arena.

Kawhi cannot be traded until July 10 and it wouldn't be a sign and trade. He's already signed an extension. However, that would be an interesting swap if both teams fall short in the postseason.

Do you think Trae is really “off limits”. I just don’t buy they’re not contemplating getting away from him, I’m not saying they should as I think his offence is MASSIVELY underrated. But they can’t ignore if a team offers the farm. A mini reset for talent and assets, and change of scenery may be best for both sides.

I read Hollinger's piece saying that Young and Johnson were basically off limits. Their stated preference seems to be moving some of their other starters. But I agree with you, I'd send out feelers to see what they could get in a Young trade. They desperately need to shake things up and replenish their assets. I don't think they could achieve those goals by dealing Murray. Seems they are more interested in packaging him with Hunter or Capela to shed salary.

Do you think the Pistons/Wiz trade is prelude to a bigger trade for either team? I just don’t get it from Detroit’s side. Cap space in a FA, they’ll get out bid by bigger markets makes no sense so I can’t help but think another move is coming.

Both teams will be active in the trade market. Actually, Washington surprised me more. I don't know if they'll get much more out of Bagley/Livers than the Pistons did. Detroit offloaded Bagley's contract (with the aid of 2 second-rounders). They got a trade exception and the extra cap space for the summer will facilitate other trades. Correct in saying they wouldn't be in play for major FAs but there won't be many good ones out there. They'll be looking to swing trades to get the impact players they desperately need.

What are the chances Lebron asks out of his bad situation if this continues to be ugly?
Dana Gauruder
12:23
LeBron's MO, when he's changed teams, is to do on his own terms. Would he really give up on AD and company to chase a title this year? Not sure of that, especially since Pelinka did such a good job reshaping the roster at deadline last season. I saw an article that threw out teams like OKC, Golden State and Philly for different reasons -- if LeBron wanted to go. The Sixers there would be most interesting but that would require Lakers to agree to a rebuild.

What is your thought on the Clippers? Feels like this time every year, everyone flips their view on them and back them for a good PO run after bashing them all season. They’re arguably the most talented and deepest in the league but it’s proven a health issue is every season since they started the Kawahi/PG build.
Dana Gauruder
12:25
They're rolling along and doing what Lue wanted prior to the season -- take the regular season more seriously and get a better seed. But the Clippers will be measured by their postseason success. If Kawhi, PG, Harden are healthy for the playoffs, obviously they'd be dangerous team. That's a huge if, given their injury histories in recent years.

OKC with 3 1st round picks in the upcoming draft have the advantage over the other top 4 teams in the west to trade them for a strong playoff push?
Dana Gauruder
12:28
They've got tons of picks in other drafts, too. If the right deal comes along, Presti is in a great spot to make a move. But unless some other teams, there's no sense of urgency. They've got a great young core -- they're not in spot like Phoenix or Clippers, where it's championship or bust.

is Chauncey going to be fired soon?
Dana Gauruder
12:30
Considering he didn't sign up for a rebuild, Chauncey may not mind getting out of that situation. That being said, a coaching change isn't going to do the Blazers any good in the short run.

Based on actual qualifications instead of popularity,  who should start for the East and West
Dana Gauruder
12:33
That's a rough one -- lots of good candidates. East -- Embiid, Giannis, Haliburton, Tatum, Brunson. West - Jokic, Doncic, SGA, Edwards, Kawhi.

Jalen Green(Hou) and Oladipo for D. Murray(Atl).  Who says no?  Thank you.
Dana Gauruder
12:36
I don't see the Rockets trading Green and I'd think the Hawks would want a different type of return for Murray.
Timberwolves turnovers
12:37
How do we solve the turnover problem we have?
Dana Gauruder
12:38
Perhaps adding another PG to back up Conley? That appears to be a priority for Minnesota heading into the trade deadline.
Pistons
12:38
Why is Troy Weaver seat so hot? Gores if remember correctly wanted Monty Williams. Duren and Boban have missed a good chunck of the season. The pieces are there for Det to be successful impart because of the choices of Troy Weaver. What am I missing?
Dana Gauruder
12:41
Well, 3-36 is usually enough to get most GMs fired. You're right about Gores wanting Williams and injuries have set them back but the larger issue is roster construction. Other than maybe Cade, they haven't drafted a star-level talent despite all those lottery picks. He brought in a bunch of reclamation projects, none of which have panned out. They basically did nothing with their cap space last summer (Harris, M. Morris). Only thing keeping Weaver there is I don't think Gores wants to go through another rebuild with a different GM.

How much should we doubt the Mitchell trade in hindsight? Markkanen + assets seems like a higher ceiling than having Mitchell with diminishing control, and Markkanen might have been better with Mobley long-term?
Dana Gauruder
12:44
I can't fault the Cavs for going after an All-Star level talent. They're not easy to acquire. And if I'm not mistaken, they are in the top six in the standings despite injuries to Mobley and Garland. Sure, the Cavs could make some moves before the deadline to improve the roster but the Mitchell was, and still is, a worthwhile swing.
BeyondtheSnark
12:44
Who is more likely to be traded before the deadline? Zach LaVine or Andrew Wiggins.
Dana Gauruder
12:46
Neither is a hot commodity on the market right now. I'd give a slight edge to LaVine because he's an offensive force at his best but I think both teams will strike out in dealing them unless they add some serious sweeteners.

Will the Lakers make a move?  Trade Austin Reeves, DLo, Rui?
Dana Gauruder
12:49
They'd have to do something really big to trade Reaves. I just don't see that happening. The other two certainly are more likely but Russell is coming off a 39 point game. Maybe the Lakers should go with a more traditional lineup than filling it with wings and forwards.

Has Brogdon had any interest from other teams, since Portland has been tanking he's barely gotten any playing time, does that lower his price? And would it be possible for the heat to make a reach as we don't have a true PG?
Dana Gauruder
12:51
Brogdon is a proven commodity, so I wouldn't think his value would drop. He's the type of player that very well could be traded. His contract is reasonable (signed through next season) and he can help a lot of teams off the bench. I could see a team like the Heat benefit from adding him.

Any chance the Knicks try and use Randle to get a superstar?
