Good afternoon, all. Thanks for your early questions! Making my way through them now and will dive in momentarily...

Do you think Day 2 of the NBA draft will be successful or will something have to be done to make those players selected more meaningful?  I cannot see tuning into Day 2 to see a bunch of future G-League players and Draft and Stash players be selected knowing most of them will not play meaningful minutes in the NBA.
Luke Adams
1:05
Well, there's not really a way to change the pool of players who will be getting drafted, so I imagine it'll be a pretty typical second round on that front. Even if viewership falls off drastically on the second day of the draft, you have to figure there will be more people watching it than there would be at 11:30 pm ET, hours into the draft, when it's impossible to follow picks because they're moving too fast and happening during ad breaks.

Do you see the Rockets giving Jalen Green 1) max extension 2) extension but less than max or 3) let him play into RA
Luke Adams
1:06
Will depend on how the rest of this season plays out, but at this point I can't imagine the Rockets have seen enough from Green to hand over a max deal.

Who do you see as a better fit with the Orlando Magic Dejounte Murray, Terry Rozier, Brogdon or Tyus Jones?
Luke Adams
1:08
Dejounte Murray is the best player of that bunch and would probably be the best fit too, but I do like the idea of Tyus Jones with that group.

Am i starting for the rest of the season or are the knicks going to trade for someone like capela?
Luke Adams
1:08
I suspect as long as you stay healthy, you can bank on having that starting job the rest of the way. If the Knicks trade for a big man, it'll likely be for depth purposes, not a major trade for a starter.

Name someone the Mavs could realistically acquire to bolster their rebounding and interior defense? They seem to be playing D Powell way to many minutes again.
Luke Adams
1:11
They had interest in Clint Capela last offseason but given Lively's performance this season, I'm skeptical that the Mavs would want to part with the assets necessary to land that kind of starter-caliber player. With that in mind... Bismack Biyombo's on waivers. He'd be a low-cost option. Andre Drummond could probably be had in a trade, though he's not a great defender. Could be worth giving the Clippers a call about Mason Plumlee -- not sure he'll have the role there that he did before with Theis playing pretty well.
Buy or sell
1:12
Do you see this being one of the busier trade deadlines. Pistons will probably sell some player but also look to bring in people who can still help move the needle. Warrior will probably make some moves. Lakers could use some additions. Any surprise/sleeper moves?
Luke Adams
1:15
The day or two before the deadline is always relatively busy. It's just a matter of what caliber of player is being moved. We were spoiled last year with the Durant and Kyrie trades, plus the Lakers/Wolves/Jazz three-team deal. But I'm optimistic about this year. We already have a few big names (Siakam, Murray, LaVine, etc.) in the rumor mill, and it's not uncommon for one surprise player to enter the mix a week or two before the deadline. Guys like Lauri Markkanen, Donovan Mitchell, and Trae Young might be some of the candidates to be that player this year (though I wouldn't expect any of them to actually be moved).

How much longer is Adrian Griffin going to keep his job.  He has failed on multiple levels and keeps his abdc c bbvĝgĥĺ
Luke Adams
1:16
It's extremely rare for a first-year head coach to be fired before his first season is over. Especially when his team is off to a 25-12 start. I know there are high expectations in Milwaukee, but I wouldn't count on Griffin being in any danger unless they crash and burn in the first round of the playoffs again.

Rumor is Kings stopped trade talks because Pascal wasn't going to sign an extension.  IF OKC made a trade without giving up the Big 3 of Chet, Giddy, and SGA. You think he resigns?
Luke Adams
1:18
It's impossible to say without knowing exactly what he wants. There were also rumors that the Kings weren't prepared to offer the max. Is it as simple as "You offer me a long-term max contract and I'll sign"? Or are there personal/geographical considerations that we don't know about? Certainly, OKC would be a great situation from a basketball perspective.

So if PG doesn't get the same 3 year deal as Kwahi, if you're the GM, do you give him a shorter deal or longer and why?
Luke Adams
1:19
The three-year deal that matches Kawhi's seems likeliest, but if I can only choose longer or shorter, I'll take the shorter one. George is turning 34 in May! And he obviously doesn't have the cleanest injury history. A four-year extension would make me nervous.

It's looking like approximately zero will go right for the Grizzlies this season. Do you think they should start planning now for the future via trade, trying to acquire draft capital and expiring contracts?
Luke Adams
1:22
I suppose so, though I think most of their most valuable trade assets would be guys that want to keep for next season (and beyond). If there's a player they're not sure they'll bring back (Kennard? Tillman? Ziaire Williams?) and they can get a draft pick for him, they might as well go for it. But they aren't really well positioned to have a fire sale or to make any major moves at this point. I've seen some speculation that they could actually be a buyer at the deadline, targeting a forward who is under contract beyond this season to get a head-start on the summer. But they could just easily pursue that kind of move in the summer.

Do you think the jazz will be active at the trade deadline
Luke Adams
1:24
I assumed a few weeks ago that they'd be major sellers, with guys like Clarkson, Olynyk, Sexton, and Collins all available. Their recent hot streak has complicated matters. I still don't think they'll be out there trading draft picks for win-now pieces, but as long as they're right in the play-in mix, it seems like it'd be doing a disservice to the players to sell off a bunch of solid contributors.

What do you think of trading Murray for Siakam.  Murray is great but I’ve felt as his defense is a bit over rated and he sort of plays small.  I think Jalen could be a great SF in a bigger lineup to help the defense and rebounding.  Of course this would have to include some additional salary and insurance Siakam would resign.  For Toronto Murray, Quickley, Barrett, Barnes would work it seems.
Luke Adams
1:27
I don't hate it, but I think it would've made more sense from the Raptors' side before the Quickley/OG deal. It's also unclear what the Hawks are thinking, given how disappointing this season has been -- if they believe they have enough talent to compete as long as they improve the fit around Trae, maybe Siakam appeals to them, but they can't be as confident about that now as they might have been before the season started.

Shouldnt Grizzlies try to use their space below luxury tax to take on unwanted contracts? Oladipo + 6.3 million cash + 2nd round pick could be a cheap 2nd rounder for them
Luke Adams
1:30
Sure, that makes some sense. They're one of the few teams who are far enough below the tax line that they could actually take advantage of their TPEs and DPEs in salary-dump deals. They should see what the Pelicans are willing to attach to get them to take Kira Lewis (moving him would get New Orleans below the tax line). Memphis would need to open up a roster spot though.

With so many historically bad teams, nobody is talking about Charlotte and how bad they are. Do you see a game plan there? Is Hayward on the block as an expiring? Rozier? PJ?
Luke Adams
1:33
Yeah, the Pistons' futility this season has really taken some heat off the Hornets, Wizards, and Spurs, who could each easily be the NBA's worst team in a lot of other seasons.

As for the Hornets, I'm curious to see what they'll do at the deadline -- we haven't heard nearly as many whispers about their plans as we have about some other potential sellers. Hayward and Rozier look like obvious trade candidates to me, though you're not getting a huge return for either. Bridges would theoretically make sense as a trade chip since he'll be a UFA in 2024 and moving on from him would be a good PR move, given the domestic abuse allegations. But as good as he's been on the court, the off-court stuff still makes him a pretty toxic asset, and he also has the right to veto any trade.
1:34
If I were the Hornets, I'd probably tell teams that I'm keeping LaMelo, Miller, and Williams, but would be willing to discuss pretty much anyone else.

what are the c's options due the cap limitations?
Luke Adams
1:36
On the trade market? It'll be difficult for them to trade for a player earning much more than $8-9MM due to salary-matching issues. I believe packaging Pritchard, Kornet, and Brissett (the three highest-paid players outside of their top six) could get them a player earning about $9.5MM. The $6.2MM trade exception from the Grant Williams trade could come in handy, but obviously many players won't fit into that.
1:37
Also worth noting the Celtics will be able to sign a player on the buyout market only if his pre-buyout salary is less than $12,405,000.

If Paul George resigns with the Clippers, there's no reason the Sixers should wait until free agency to act anymore, right?
Luke Adams
1:39
Siakam's still out there, along with a bunch of second-tier guys. Plus, offseason cap room can put you in position to do more than just sign free agents (for example, they could trade for a high-priced player like Jerami Grant without sending any salary to Portland). Having said that, if there's a good opportunity out there on the trade market now that adds some money to the books for 2024/25, they shouldn't turn up their noses at it in favor of cap room.

Do the defending champs make any moves at the deadline?
Luke Adams
1:41
I could see them making one or two moves around the edges, either via trade or buyout, like they did last season with Thomas Bryant and Reggie Jackson. Wouldn't count on anything big though. They're another team, like the Celtics, whose highest-paid guys are all important players who won't be traded, leaving them with limited salary-matching options for players earning more than $9-10MM.

Dana thought it's more likely that Charlotte will make a Conference Final before losing the team (to contraction or relocation) or before the league/society crumbles as a whole. Agree or Disagree?
Luke Adams

I agree, but... I wouldn't want to put money on it and actually sweat out that bet. It might be a while.

Any thoughts on the Grizzlies maybe dealing Marcus Smart?
