Hoops Rumors Draft Chat: 6/26/24
powered byJotCast
ARTHUR HILL
7:54
Welcome to the Hoops Rumors draft night chat. We plan to keep this going throughout the first round, so submit your best questions and comments.
7:55
We'll start with the team holding the No. 1 pick.
Nice things
7:55
Why can’t the Hawks have nice things? Have the first pick in the draft and they’re stuck with a 6’10” guy who has no elite talents
ARTHUR HILL
7:58
There's a lot of disagreement about Zaccharie Risacher's NBA future. Some see him as a prototypical modern NBA forward, while other believe he has a limited offensive game that isn't effective unless his outside shot is falling. Hawks scouts and executives were impressed by what they saw when they watched him in France, but there are a lot of doubters about whether he's the best prospect in the draft.

Clingan should be the Pick, and then trade Capela for a Wing defender ?
ARTHUR HILL
8:03
Clingan and Sarr both seem like safer picks to me than Risacher. Their roles in the NBA are clear, and a strong rim protector is a good asset to have when building a roster.
GrizzMan
8:03
Tell me! Tell me!, that the Grizz make a move. I might give up if they draft Edey @ 9.
ARTHUR HILL
8:05
They want Clingan, supposedly very badly. It's a matter of whether they're willing to meet the asking price to trade up. I don't expect Edey in Memphis unless they move down.
GrizzMan
8:05
How would Dillon Brooks and Marcus Smart mesh on the same roster, if a Hou/Mem trade comes together?
ARTHUR HILL
8:06
Two erratic three-point shooters and volatile on-court personalities. I don't think it's a good fit, especially when you want the young talent to be the focus of the team.
Mighty Mouse
8:07
If Edey is on the board at 19, the Raps take him…right?   Right?!?
ARTHUR HILL
8:07
Toronto would be very fortunate to get Edey at 19. Several teams in front of them need big men.
Goyo
8:10
Does Clingan fall to tha Blazers at 7 or do you see them trading up?
ARTHUR HILL
8:10
There are too many teams that want Clingan. Portland will have to move up to get him, and they don't have the No. 14 pick to offer any more.
Fangs
8:12
Are the Spurs entering this draft tonight in win-now mode, or in prospect-hunting mode?
ARTHUR HILL
8:12
They sound like they're keeping picks No. 4 and 8, looking for long-term prospects to go with Wembanyama.
Sad bulls fan
8:15
Why are the bulls so content with being .500? There’s never a long term vision. Chicago should be a market that superstars want to play in
ARTHUR HILL
8:16
They let their roster get too old and too expensive. It's going to take a teardown to become competitive, and I'm not sure that trading Alex Caruso for Josh Giddey is a good way to start.
Dill
8:20
knicks building the perfect Celtics counter similar to the timberwolves building the perfect nuggets counter?
ARTHUR HILL
8:21
That really seems like the plan, especially now that Anunoby's return is confirmed. They need to beat the Celtics and then take their chances with everyone else.
Jannero Pargo
8:22
Odds Reed falls to Hornets at 6? And if so, they’d have to take him right?
Pistons
8:22
Odds the pistons trade down and for some extra picks and take Eady
ARTHUR HILL
8:23
I don't know if Edey is their pick, but they're in a good spot to trade down if the Spurs pass on Clingan.
ATL Hawk
8:23
Which guard are we going to trade, Trae Young or Dejounte Murray?  Murray is an All Star level player and seems to have a larger amount of suitors so the draft capital the Hawks could receive in return would be pretty good.  Young is a Superstar and is only 25 years old.  It is harder to actually draft (draft night trade) and hit on those picks.  I believe the Hawks should trade Murray so they can receive the most compensation.
ARTHUR HILL
8:25
I liked the way they played late in the season when Young was hurt and Murray was a full-time lead guard. It does depend on the offers, but the Hawks should try to see if there's a team willing to overpay for a big name like Young.
Wiz
8:26
Who do you think we’ll target with the 14th pick from the Avdija trade?
ARTHUR HILL
8:27
The Wizards have a lot of needs and they may not be done dealing. A reliable scorer would be helpful now that Avdija is gone, but it's likely a best player available situation at 14.
Chase
8:27
We gotta get an explanation on the wizards trade. Feel like that doesn't make much sense. Love the deal for Portland
ARTHUR HILL
8:28
It's a great pickup for the Trail Blazers, probably a better asset than whatever they could have gotten with the 14th pick. The Wizards made no secret that they wanted draft assets, even at a high cost like Avdija.

I think Lavine gets moved tonight. You think the return is better than those Bleacher Report crap mock trades?
ARTHUR HILL
8:33
If the Bulls are looking for draft picks in return, it could happen tonight. I didn't see the Bleacher Report trades, but you shouldn't expect a huge return. Between his contract and his injury history, he's a big risk.
Suns fan
8:34
What will the Suns be doing tonight in the draft?
ARTHUR HILL
8:35
Tyler Kolek seems like a good choice if they stay at 22. But they may try to move out of the first round to avoid the guaranteed contract.
GrizzMan
8:36
Does Reed Sheppard make an All-Star team in Houston?
ARTHUR HILL
8:39
Probably not, but they don't need him to be an All-Star. He fills their biggest need for outside shooting, but he's not one dimensional. He's athletic, plays good help defense and scouts rave about his feel for the game. There may not be many All-Stars in this year's class, so the Rockets added what they needed most.

Any chance we see the Wiz move Kuz or Kispert too for more picks tonight?
ARTHUR HILL
8:41
No scenario with the Wizards would really surprise me. I think they want their roster to look a lot different after tonight, so they'll jump on any opportunities they see that make them better.
ZR
8:41
Any chance the Hawks trade ZR now?
ARTHUR HILL
8:42
I wouldn't expect it. If they weren't sold on Risacher, they could have taken Sarr or traded the pick to one of the teams chasing after Clingan. Several writers have described this as an eye-of-the-beholder draft, and the Hawks' front office seems to really like Risacher.

Think the Rockets make the playoffs?
