Hey there folks, we'll be starting the chat shortly, hang tight!
1:25
Sorry for the delay, things got held up on another post.  But, never fear, it's time to dive into the Guardians' offseason.
Lake Erie

Whats a realistic way to upgrade the outfield offense?
Mark P
1:27
Adding a veteran bat, even if it means sacrificing defense for hitting.  If Kwan and Straw are your other outfielders, you can get away with a bat-first type in right field.  Or, maybe even two sluggers for the corners, with Kwan in CF and Straw as a late-game defensive sub.

What do you think of OF Tyler O Neil as fit for Guardians ?  What would it take to get him from St Louis
Mark P
1:30
In addition to the rhyming names, the Cards and Guards match up pretty well on paper.  St. Louis need pitching badly and Cleveland needs outfielders, so in theory they could try to find a deal involving their surpluses.

O'Neill is only controlled through 2024, so the Guards aren't going to give up one of their top-flight younger pitchers in a one-for-one type of trade.  It would have to be a multi-player swap of some sort with O'Neill and (insert Guards pitcher here) as the principle names, even if the secondary pieces on other side might also be interesting
1:31
O'Neill is a tough player to evaluate after two down years, but a change of scenery might be what he needs
WAMCO
1:31
Ramirez for Vladdy. Thoughts?
Mark P
1:31
The Guardians hang up the phone, laugh, then throw the phone out of the window.
Bullpen
1:31
I think it makes sense to move McKenzie to the bullpen next year to control innings and pitch count and protect his elbow. Sure he is better as a healthy starter but he is not that now. And the leverage innings need some help. Do you disagree?
Mark P
1:32
I do.  McKenzie can turn to relief pitching if it becomes clear that being a starter isn't a viable option.
Surely Cleveland will give him every chance to succeed as a starter before considering a move to the pen

1:33
Do you see the Guardians raising payroll after their attendance boom in ‘23?
Mark P
1:35
I'll have to see it to believe it. While they got spending up to just around the $100MM mark this year, going beyond doesn't seem too likely
Just based on how the club has traditionally operated
Dan
1:36
Shane Bieber for Colton Cowser and DL Hall. Who says no?
Mark P
1:36
Baltimore's not doing that for one year of Bieber
Oscar Gamble
1:36
Starting SS for next season?
Mark P
1:37
Probably Arias
RIP John Adams
1:38
Why does the front office think that offense and HR’s aren’t important.   Will they try to get someone to hit it out in the bleachers where I was the most loyal fan?
Mark P
1:39
Power is expensive, especially for a team with a limited budget.  Contact hitting and aggressive baserunning can lead to a good offense, but I agree that unless you have elite pitching, a team definitely needs some thunder in the lineup to make it a well-rounded threat
1:40
And it's not that the Guardians didn't try to get more power last year, it's just that Bell and Zunino were misfires
A lot of left side bats
1:41
It is possibe that in 2025 the lineup will have 7 left side bats: Naylor, Manzardo. Giminez, Kwan, Vilara, Delauter and Naylor. Jose has the 8th spot. That leaves open one infield spot fir a right side bat. That seems like a big problem to me. What do yo think that they do?
Mark P
1:41
More balance is ideal.  But, the Guardians are so desperate for hitting that if they can get some offense from any side of the plate, they'll take it
Chris ANTONETTI
1:42
Why am I so afraid to play our young OF’s?   J-Rod really has nothing left to prove.   Do you think I will FINALLY trade a MI or three to help us add some offense?
Mark P
1:43
The problem with the MI surplus is that it might not be a "surplus" if so many of the players fit the same good-glove/little-hit profile.  As much as Cleveland is still trying to evaluate which of this group can be big leaguers, rival scouts and front offices are probably thinking the same questions, and thus aren't too willing to give up a legit bat
Josh
1:44
Tommy Pham a good fit for guards ? Beside beiber who else is headed out this off-season
Mark P
1:44
RH bat on a very left-handed team, that could fit nicely
KC
1:45
Does Gimenez move to short next year?
Mark P
1:46
Probably not. The youngsters are all decent-to-great defenders, so they can handle shortstop.  I think Antonetti even made a comment to the effect of why bother moving Gimenez when everything is working well
M.J.
1:47
I want the Guardians to add Lourdes Gurriel Jr. (3 year contract), Teoscar Hernandez (1 year pillow contract), Hunter Renfroe (2 year contract) to add pop in the OF and DH. They also need to add 2-3 bullpen arms (including a secondary closer to ease Clase’s load). They need to non-tender Karinchak and trade Morgan and Sandlin (who are both average). Your thoughts?
Mark P
1:48
Getting perhaps one of those hitters is feasible, probably Renfroe since he'd cost the least. Getting all three just isn't how Cleveland does business, unless they make a drastic pivot

I saw that Morosi said the Mariners should target Jose Ramirez this offseason.   Is it realistic? We have a ton of pitching and prospects...
Mark P
1:49
Every team "should" target Jose Ramirez, but there is zero chance he's traded.  That ship sailed the moment he signed that extension.
kurt the hurt
1:49
Can Cleveland resign Bieber if he pitches well in 24 or is that out of their price range ?
Mark P
1:50
Out of range.
Guard
1:50
Do u think that Laureano gets tendered a contract?
Mark P
1:51
Probably not. He hit okay after joining the team, but the Guardians need more than a 100 wRC+ type of ookay
okay
Reunions
1:51
Think Carlos Santana is due for a final year with Cleveland and is he a good enough fit for them at this point of his career?
