Ok kids, we're going to start our chat at 11 am so get ready...
11:03
Ok, here we go....fire away
Bill
11:03
Who was the knucklehead Steelers player in street clothes who drew the 15 yard unsportsmanlike penalty for leaving the bench and celebrating Cam Sutton’s interception in the end zone of the Raiders game?
Gerry Dulac
11:04
Not sure, but let's take a guess....what defensive back who was injured and not playing would celebrate with the other STARTERS ??
Bill
11:05
What salary would Mason Rudolph command next year as a back up, and would anyone make him a starter or put him “in the mix” for a legit chance to start at QB next season?
Gerry Dulac
11:07
Well, his salary this year was $3 million but that was in addition to a signing bonus he received a couple years ago. But, I don't think he is thinking he will be a starter anywhere next season, but I do think he will try to go somewhere where he might have a chance to play some.

11:07
Can you name a group position that the Steelers are better than the Ravens outside of receivers? I think the Ravens are better at everyone including defense backs. This shows how overrated Colbert has been as a GM.
Gerry Dulac
11:08
They don't have a safety like Minkah Fitzpatrick, an OLB like TJ Watt or a defensive lineman like Cam Heyward, though Calais Campbell is good.
Bill
11:08
The Chicago Bears are 0-7 since trading for Chase Claypool. He has 12 receptions on 22 targets for 111 yards and no TDs plus 1 fumble, and 5 rushes for 4 yards total. Claypool has also missed the last two games. What say you about Claypool and the trade now?
Gerry Dulac
11:09
The same thing I said then -- why would the Bears, who had three wins at the time, trade a No. 2 pick for Claypool. They could find a WR in the second round of the draft who would be better than him. Stupid stupid stupid.

How much do the Steelers push their great history and traditions on new, younger players who may not know about it? The past week made me wonder if that is used to create a mindset for the Tomlin teams.
Gerry Dulac
11:10
They don't "push" it on anybody. But there is a certain culture the players learn just from being here. At least, most of them do.

Good morning, thanks for the chat. Is Matt Canada the most disliked OC going back to the Bill Cowher era? And what do you think the probability of Matt Canada being let go after the end of the season?
Gerry Dulac
11:11
If you mean disliked by the fans, probably. But then offensive coordinators are pretty much vilified everywhere. And you know why that is? Fantasy football. Everyone thinks they know more than an OC and GM just because they trade and activate players to win a pool

11:11
Do you think Can Heyward will be retained next year? They are getting to the point in his contract where he is much more easier to release
Gerry Dulac
11:11
Of course he will. Why wouldn't they???

Hello Gerry . Thank you as always for the chat. First , I like to say one thing in reference to my question in your last chat where you compared the Pickett and Trubisky number of interception . All I got to say , one is a rookie and other one is a 6 year veteran . When veteran says that he needs to learn to move defenders with his eyes , you think that 6 years are enough to learn that and to read defenses. Question is about Franco ceremony . It was heart warming ceremony . But why Bradshaw was absent ? He would have done himself good by being there . Do you agree ? Thank you again
Gerry Dulac
11:12
Bradshaw was working.

If you were forced to bet on whether Canada stays or goes after the season where are you putting your money?
Gerry Dulac
11:14
I'm glad you said "forced" because I don't bet om such things. I just hope the Steelers don't get duped by this final stretch of the season and think they're on the right track instead of looking at the totality of where they are -- a 9-8 (at best) football team

I’d rather have Kenny P in development on a rookie contract than agonizing like the Ravens have to be with L. Jackson hitting potential FA. Would you switch places?
Gerry Dulac
11:14
If I could have Lamar Jackson, I'd take him.
Tampa Too
11:14
Gerry. What would you rather have ? An offense that is the most explosive in the league with an average defense or would you rather have a top three defense with an average offense?
Gerry Dulac
11:15
You have to be able to score points in this league. Top 3 defense is no good if you can't put points on the board.

Hi Gerry, Happy New Year!
With the season almost over, what’s your thoughts on Kenny Pickett? With him playing a good portion of the season, in hindsight, do you see the progress many are talking about or would the Steelers have been better off passing on him and taking their lumps with Mitch?
Gerry Dulac
11:18
He is progressing nicely, but he is doing so now when the Steelers have run out of time because of the earlier losses they absorbed using a rookie QB. That's the decision Mike Tomlin made and he has to live with it.

Canada gets credit for two good calls late - a sweep that worked and a pass over the middle (finally) for a TD. After that I have nothing. The worst was a two yard out to Pickens(!!) on 3rd and 9. Why would you not send him out for a combat catch for, I dont know, 10 yards? Does anyone in the org agree with NFL Networks Steve Smith’s postgame comments - “Saturday play calling”?
Gerry Dulac
11:21
Hey, take away that opening Raiders drive and the last TD drive for the Steelers and there wasn't a whole lot about that game that was entertaining from a football standpoint. In fact, it was downright dreadful. Maybe I've grown accustomed to the bar being set so low, but I have not had a huge problem with the flow of the play-calling the past 3 to 4 games. Maybe something's wrong with me.

Do your eyeballs see real improvement in the Steelers play during the second half of the season, or are these wins the result of playing against a lot of bad teams?
Gerry Dulac
11:24
Well, let's see.....they haven't beaten a team with a winning record since the opener and their past five wins have been against teams that don't have more than six wins. But, at least I will say this, they have beaten the bad teams, which is what you are supposed to do, otherwise you are one of the bad teams.

11:24
Does the flex to Sunday night help or hurt the Steelers' chances against the Ravens?
Gerry Dulac
11:24
Neither
The Real TP Hunter
11:24
Hi Gerry and happy holidays! I thought Cam Sutton looked pretty impressive against the Raiders. If they can keep him and one of the two free-agent safeties, they could have a decent secondary next year providing they find a No. 1 corner in the draft or free agency, no?
Gerry Dulac
11:26
Cam is a nice player who can play three different positions and I would imagine they will keep him. But they will only have a decent secondary -- your word -- if they can get a true No. 1 corner. And they don't have that. the guys they have are nice players who are quality fill-ins or backups.

11:26
The Steelers defense was supposed to be the strength of the team, and did look impressive against the Raiders. But to be truly elite, I believe they need a good inside linebacker and a shutdown corner. Odd they will address those positions in the draft and in free agency.
Gerry Dulac
11:27
I agree with the shutdown corner part. And an edge rusher is more important than an ILB ands they have that
Blue Collar Jeff
11:27
Gerry--Happy Holidays! It would seem that the Steelers are an average team (at best). However, they may still end up making the playoffs where "anything is possible". Would this outcome create a false sense of competitiveness or provide some momentum to build on?
Gerry Dulac
11:28
You are 50-50 in your assessment. They are an average team at best. But they won't end up making the playoffs. Only one spot available and too many teams they lost to ahead of them (Dolphins, Jets, Patriots).
The Real TP Hunter
11:28
Do you see a playoff miracle for the Steelers a la 1989 when about a dozen things had to happen for them to squeeze into the playoffs? I actually remember that season well and I thought that they had a real good chance to get in entering the last weekend. (We went to Tampa Stadium and watched them beat the Bucs in 38 degree weather.) Not quite as confident this time.
Gerry Dulac
11:29
Yeah, might be a good idea to not be so confident. But, you never know.
