OK kids, we're going to start our chat in just a couple minutes. I see you're lining up already as though you're trying to get "Hamilton" tickets
10:55
OK, we'll start our chat with this question because I can't believe it....

Although he's still young I don't see TJ Watt as the complete player most Steeler fans think he is. How do you see Watt
Gerry Dulac
10:58
The guy is among the league leaders in sacks, leads the team with 19 pressures, is fifth in tackles, has four forced fumbles and blocked a field goal to preserve a tie in Cleveland. Yeah, I don't think he's a complete player, either.

Gerry - IF, and it is a BIG IF, the Steelers clinch the North this weekend, is there any advantage gained by winning the Benglas game or will the game essentially be a "bye" week?  Thanks.
Gerry Dulac
10:59
There will be nothing to gain if the division is clinched this weekend.

A huge part of our success last week was the reemergence of the running game.  Part of that was a some great new designed run plays.  With the Saints being one of the best run defenses in the league, do you expect the Steelers to go pass happy or still try and establish a running game?
Gerry Dulac
11:01
It will depend on the success they are having. But, even in the NE game, if you recall, Samuels had 70 yards on seven carries early in the second quarter -- great success, right? -- and the Steelers ran a majority of their 34 first-half plays with an empty set (no RB). Anytime you can establish the run on the road, it's a good thing
11:02
Oh, by the way, they weren't new running plays, just running plays they put in for that game. Those are plays that are already n their playbook.

Gerry - Looked like some pretty effective defensive schemes, at least compared to previous attempts, deployed against Brady.  Will we see similar schemes against Brees this weekend or something totally different?  Thanks.
Gerry Dulac
11:03
They could end up being similar because of the quarterbacks, but they prepare differently for each team, especially because the Saints run the ball a whole lot better than the Patriots

How in the world did Tom Brady make the Pro Bowl over Ben Roethlisberger?  Didn’t Ben just beat him, and have better stats all year?
Gerry Dulac
11:04
It has nothing to do with Ben beating him the other day, but you're right. Leaving him out of the Pro Bowl, on a first-place team, is just another example of the ridiculous slight BR seems to get from everybody. Totally ridiculous

Bills, Bears, Titans, Cowboys and Colts defenses took a major step forward this year. The main reasons for this improvement are Tremaine Edmunds, Roquan Smith, Rahsaan Evans, Leighton Vander Esch and Darius Leonard. Hopefully Mack Wilson, Devan White or Devan Bush can make a difference for us next year at inside linebacker position.
Gerry Dulac
11:07
I wouldn't call any of those guys the "main" reason, but they are a reason. I liked Darius Leonard as a second round pick but I understand why the Steelers went in the direction they did. Nonethless, your point is well taken and I agree -- they are not much better now than they were this time last year at that position. It is the major deficiency in their defense.

Ian Rappaport stands by his report that Ben has broken ribs, just like he stood by his report that Ben wanted traded.  Is he just a message board troll with a media job or what?
Gerry Dulac
11:08
Ian Rappaport is also the guy who stood in front of a meeting of the NFL PR people and said it is more important to have the news first than to have it right.

Whats up Gerry - the challenging has been irksome the past few years.  It is hard to see from the sideline and if you are lucky you might get a good look on the jumbo tron.  How come Tomlin refuses to hire someone up in the booth to advise him?  Seems like a very simple fix to a very obvious issue.  Is this something they could implement this year or is this an offseason discussion with a fix coming in 2019?
Gerry Dulac
11:09
I don't know if it's being discussed, but it would make sense. Other teams do it. He relies on his assistant coaches in the booth to help him, but that is not their main priority.

Boswell deleted his Twitter because people harassed him.  When I harassed you on twitter you just blocked me.  Why won’t you delete your twitter like Boswell?
Gerry Dulac
11:10
Of course, I can always unblock you. Believe me, there are days Id like to delete my account. But, I will tell you, there are many days -- many!! -- where I don't even read it. I am not a Twitter troll.

I am not a pessimist, but I don't think the D is completely fixed.  Do you think the issue is coaching or the need for better players?
Gerry Dulac
11:11
Two better players -- one at corner, the other at ILB. Fixed.

Did last weeks win signify the end of the Patriots run?  I’m willing to say as many Hail Marys and Our Fathers as it takes to make that happen.
Gerry Dulac
11:12
I don't think that game did it. After all, they were 3-5 on the road this year, their first losing season on the road since 2002. And in three of those 5 losses they scored only 10 points. So, I don't think it was just that one game. But, I'm always not going to say the king is dead.

11:12
Do you think that the Steelers may have overused zone defenses in the past and do you expect more man to man in the future?
Gerry Dulac
11:13
No. They're trying to implement more man coverage, but the ideal plan is to be able to use both and switch and back and forth.

If the Steelers lose this week and the Ravens win, the Steeers likely miss the playoffs.   If that happens, can we finally Fire Mike Tomlin already!
Gerry Dulac

Let's hold off on the what ifs

Jaylin Samuels and James Washington finally contributed this week.   Why do the Steelers rot rookies on the bench all year?
Gerry Dulac
11:15
Uhhh...James Washington has not been on the bench all year. He has appeared in 12 games, played many snaps, has 13 catches and been targeted a number of times. Samuels wasn't playing because of Conner. I don't call that rotting.

Do you think Brown has issues against a corner who plays press coverage?
Gerry Dulac
11:16
Not at all. Watch next time, see what teams do to him to take him out of the game. And he still gets open. If a guy is playing press coverage, it's only because he's getting help somewhere from a safety.

Remarkable Jay Sam gets his first ever 100 yd game at the NFL level! Earlier looked like he might be just a 3rd down back, but after that running performance do you think he could be more than that?
Gerry Dulac
11:17
I think he showed what he can be. But, hey, it was just one game -- albeit a very good one.

Gerry, you blocked me on Twitter, but I've never tweeted at you, what gives??

It’s not just Boswell, but shouldn’t the team have replaced him by now.  He’s stunk since preseason.  It’s inevitable that he will cost the team a playoff game at some point if they make it there
Gerry Dulac
11:21
Have you looked at his record since he's been here. It's the BEST in the league and big-time clutch. 46 of 48 in December and January, including playoffs, where he's never missed (15 of 15). You see the Patriots cutting Stephen Gostkowski? He's missed 5 field goals this year. They're trying to weather the storm for now. You think there's someone better?

Gerry, thank you for taking the time. What do you see as the key match-up problems vs. the Saints this weekend? Go Steelers
