OK kids, let's get our chat started. Go...!!

Hmm? Do you think they should fire Tomlin and Butler since they obviously don't know how to coach defense?  Of course, maybe your a better coach when you have the personnel.

This question must have come from the beginning of the season during the 0-3 start. Or they are trying out some sarcasm.

Gerry, you are a hellava good sports reporter. My question is back in the days of Terry Bradshaw, he called his own plays right? Wasn't he so successful? When did this practice of coordinator calling plays come about? Shouldn't the QB be allowed to change plays as it sees it?
Gerry Dulac
11:02
I'm not sure when that occurred, but QBs do have the freedom to change plays, and do -- especially the experienced ones. Ben will audible and change the protection many times, which is something a young QB such as Mason Rudolph is not experienced enough to see or do.
Nick
11:02
Would Connor be wearing a shoulder harness tomorrow to protect himself? Would he split time with Samuels to lessen work load?
Gerry Dulac
11:03
I think you might see some old-time shoulder pads
Kyle Monier
11:03
Do you think the Steelers are gonna roll with Big Ben next season or stick with Rudolph?

Since Cleveland is a short bus ride away, why wouldn't they arrive on Thurs morning at Cleveland so they they can sleep one more night with wives at home?

I don't remember hearing Devin Bush's name mentioned in the last two games.  He has clearly been overshadowed by Minkah as a mid-field defender.  Any reading of how Steeler brass regards Bush's development at this point?  He doesn't seem to be the dominant force we were led to expect.
Gerry Dulac
11:05
He played only about half the snaps against the Rams because they went w the one-LB, six-DBs look a lot. Vince Williams played only 11 snaps. I don't think there is any disappointment with his development. But I think what you are seeing is that he has to get more comfortable with his pass-coverage assignments.
Picksixlisberger
11:05
How much money would the Steelers save by releasing Roethlisberger and move forward with Rudolph as quarterback?
Gerry Dulac
11:05
Depends if you want to count missed playoff and possible Super Bowl appearances in there without Ben

Hi Gerry, I asked this awhile back and you had the same answer as me. So I'll ask again...Why is Dan McCullers still on the roster? Correct me if I'm wrong but it appears his snap count hasn't increased even without Tuitt in the line up.
Gerry Dulac
11:07
I don't know and really have no clue. Teams don't usually stick with a guy for six years who has never developed. They usually don't wait past three years. And he doesn't play a lot. He played three snaps against the Rams

Thanks for the chat Gerry, what is up with the 2nd and 3rd long play calls? Handoff to Vance?  A delayed handoff that went nowhere. Between that type of playcalling and the drops players and coaches gotta start helping Mason out a little soon right?
Gerry Dulac
11:08
It's called conservatively protecting a lead cause you don't have Ben
Jimmie

Since the defense is the heart of the Steelers' success, how hurtful will it be to lose Dupree next season?
Gerry Dulac
11:08
If they do, and I think they will, it will hurt a lot, based on the way he's playing this season.

Thanks for chatting, Gerry.  Any word on Sutton Smith's potential role if he were to get a promotion today from the PS?  Both backup OLBs are are on the injury report and the only FB on the roster is out for this week.  Could they be thinking about using him on both sides of the ball?
Gerry Dulac
11:09
I wouldn't hold your breath on either of those happening

Hi Gerry, luv your chats.  Are Boswell's short kickoffs intentional, or is he struggling?
Gerry Dulac
11:10
They're intentional and they don't make sense to me. The Rams still returned several of those past the 25. Just kick the darn thing through the end zone. But, the last thing Boswell is doing this year is struggling. He is to be commended for bouncing back the way he has. Just one missed kick all year. It's the old Boswell.

Should we expect a heavier dose of Vince Williams  this week in an effort to contain Cleveland's  running game?
Gerry Dulac
11:10
I would guess that will be the case.

Do you think Vince W plays more snaps this week because of the Browns' running game?
Gerry Dulac

Gary why do we keep players like McCullers and Nix and never use them?  Wouldn’t that be a better spot for say a LB or OL?  I like those guys but they work less than PennDot employees.
Gerry Dulac
11:11
I get keeping Nix. I don't get the McCullers thing.

We moved Matt F. to guard to deal with Donald.  What do the Steelers need to do to stop Myles Garrett?
Gerry Dulac
11:12
Hope Villanueva can handle him.

I’ve said NFL coaches would figure out how to defend Lamar Jackson. So far I’m wrong. Is that type of QB and style of offense the future of the league?
Gerry Dulac
11:14
I'm with you on that. He has been very impressive. Right now he's the front runner in the AFC for MVP. If he keeps going the way he is, other teams won't be hesitant to draft a running-style QB. Here's the only problem: Once he gets a big contract, his coaches won't want him running like that because of the increased risk of injury. And, if he gets popped a couple times, he might be a little more reluctant to run

Gerry, do you know if the Steelers will send anyone to Atlanta on Saturday to look at Kapernick?  Thanks.
Gerry Dulac
11:15
I don't know. I'm guessing not because it's not like they're looking to add a quarterback. Then again, they always do their due diligence when it comes to scouting players.

We've seen wildcat before and it seems like every week a new game plan or player is featured (James Washington last week). Anything you predict from practice this week?
Gerry Dulac
11:16
Can't let out practice secrets.

Gerry iyo, will the steelers ever win a super bowl under tomlin? given his continued blunders in time and clock management, when the margin for victory is so small
