Is Tomlin trying to light a fire under Haris with his discussion of a change to Warren at running back?
Gerry Dulac
9:54
Maybe. But I'll believe the increased carries for Warren when I see it. Heard the same thing last month and he had two carries the next game.

TJ, Kazee back.  A week off to digest/learn and hopefully fine tune the offensive and defensive approach.  No more drama from Claypool.  9 games to go - how many do the Steelers win?
Gerry Dulac
9:54
They'll be lucky if they're 5-4

Hi Gerry:  Thanks for the Chats: Who is primarily responsible for the “Combat Catch” Dementia that dooms the Steeler Offense?  They are starting to ruin the fleet footed rookie Pickens with jump balls on the sidelines nonsense.   Anyone notice JuJu is wide open in Kansas City having his most yds per catch ever?  Claypool was the Steeler Combat Catch king, if he starts catching passes when “open” in Chicago, a very, very large dose of reality is needed at the Steeler headquarters.
Gerry Dulac
9:55
I agree. Run Pickens through the middle of the field, unless you think he doesn't know his route assignments very well right now. Not every throw has to be against the boundary where he is land-locked and covered by a defender.

Hi Gerry!  Will - or should, the Steelers show any interest in fired Colts HC Frank Reich to be their next Offensive Coordinator?
Gerry Dulac
9:56
After the season, if he isinterested and doesn't get another head-coach offer, HECK YEAH!! Steelers should do more than just show interest.

Good morning Gerry! At what point is this team going to realize PH3 hurts more than benefits them over the course of the game? For a guy that was supposedly a stud in college, his lackluster and inconsistent play tends to put this defense in some tough short fields

Gerry,  which of these positions would you rather sign in free agency vs acquire in the draft: OL, DL, CB, ILB.
Gerry Dulac
9:59
Well, not O-line, that's for sure. And not DLine. They don't draft corners very well, so I might be inclined to say CB, but they've already added 3 new faces going back to last season -- Jackson, Wallace and Witherspoon -- and they're not about to go out and sign someone like a Jalen Ramsey. They've already committed a lot of money to their defense.

Hello Gerry.  Do you think Coach Tomlin hires offensive assistants to run his system?  Or do you think he hires people he could delegate?
Gerry Dulac
10:00
The offense is not Mike Tomlin's system, if that's what you're asking. But I imagine he hired Matt Canada because he had a vision for the type of offensive system he wanted.

By not firing Canada does this prove that the team has given up on the year?
Gerry Dulac
10:01
No, but it should prove you shouldn't expect the offense to suddenly be different and productive after what you've watched the past 25 games.

10:01
Good morning Sir, Whats your thoughts on Mike Munchak returning , any chance in 2023?
Gerry Dulac
10:01
It's a nice thought, but don't think it's a realistic one.

Gerry, thank you for the time and the chat. What's worse for Pickett's development in your opinion - 9 more games with this OC or 9 more games with Sullivan as OC.  Having hard time seeing how keeping Canada helps him. If Canada showed signs that he has any ability to call an offense at this level I could see the argument for keeping the stability but he hasn't shown he's capable and the sample size is large enough to show Canada is not improving and isn't going to get better at his job with more experience.
Gerry Dulac
10:04
The best thing for Pickett's development -- if that is their interest as opposed to winning games -- is to let him learn how to run a pro-style offense and adapt to NFL defenses. Of course, they always run the risk of having him lose confidence if things keep going the way they are. At this point, I don't know if Matt Canada's impact on him will be better or worse the final nine games.

Gerry, has Edmunds played his way to a big pay day or is he going to be on the high end of mid-tier FA's in the off season.  Do you see the Steelers making a higher than expected offer to try and keep him?  Should they try to keep him?
Gerry Dulac
10:05
If he's played his way to a big payday, it will be with another NFL team, not the Steelers. But, to your question, he has played very well, actually since the middle of last season. Bringing him back is one of the best and under-appreciated moves they made in the offseason.

What do you think of the latest offensive innovation of teammates pushing the ball carrier forward like a rugby scrum?
Gerry Dulac
10:06
I'm surprised the league continues to allow it because it brings into question when the officials are supposed to blow the play dead. That being said, I find it amusing to watch.

Good morning Gerry - Why not bring in Big Ben as OC?  He knows the offense language and fully gets going off script.  It is just insanity to keep doing what we are currently and hoping for something different.
Gerry Dulac
10:07
Yes, almost as insane as your observation.

Gerry, Good morning!  I watched the Bears Dolphins game (broadcast locally here in FL) which ended in another "fade-away" attempt by Chase Claypool to catch a 4th down pass. He was closely covered but had me made a move toward the pass instead of away from the ball it would have made all the difference. I think it was best to trade him.  The Steelers have too many athletes to develop into football players as it is.
Gerry Dulac
10:08
That's nothing new for him. Been doing it for three years and shame on the coaches for changing that awful habit. He's negating his size advantage every time.

Does Andy Weidl being on staff carry any weight as far as bringing Frank Reich in as the new OC? He’d be a tremendous upgrade over MC. But then, my cat would be an upgrade.
Gerry Dulac
10:08
Haha. Maybe some, but with all due respect to Andy, whose job is player personnel, I highly doubt it.
Tim
10:09
Do you think omar and andy will value a top flight o lineman, d lineman or cb when they turn in the card rnd 1 in April?  We need all three!
Gerry Dulac
10:10
I absolutely do. They have ignored both in the first and second round for way too long as it has caught up with them. Just another reason why it was not a good idea to draft a QB this year when other areas were more important.

The firings of offensive coaches can’t stop at Canada. Has any group on that side of the ball played well or even shown improvement over last season?
Gerry Dulac
10:10
I think you will see at least two other offensive coaches be shown the door with Canada after the season.

Hi Gerry, there is a lot of talk about hiring Frank Reich.  Wouldn't he be listening to HC offers instead of OC?  And even if he did accept the job as OC for the Steelers, he probably wouldn't be here long if he still wanted to be a head coach again.
Gerry Dulac
10:12
All the talk is wishful and hopeful thinking by fans, though I agree it would be a good move. But, as I said earlier, that depends if he doesn't get another head-coaching job somewhere. And, if he's only here for a year, so what.
Jim Bow Dean

I used to think taking Freiermuth over Humphrey in the second-round last year was a mistake but I was wrong. Wasn’t the mistake taking Harris over Humphrey in the first round?
Gerry Dulac
10:14
It's why most teams are reluctant to draft RBs in the first round. As you have seen with guys like GB's Aaron Jones, a fifth-round pick, you can find quality RBs in a lot of places.
