OK kids, we will start our chat right around 11 am, soon as I get back from the locker room, so get those questions ready...
11:03
Ok, I'm back and here we go....

Are there any steeler fans out there that still dont like the trade for Fitzpatrick?   He is a game changer, and here for at least 3 more years.   Great trade!!!
Gerry Dulac
11:04
They should be able to fit them all in a telephone booth ...if they still had them.

Why aren’t we more patient with Rudolph. He’s a young intelligent athlete who takes his craft very seriously, learning every game. He has tremendous potential. Rome wasn’t built in a day!
Gerry Dulac
11:04
A wise man in Jerusalem!

Scheduling ?: So the Steelers play at Cleveland next Thursday night.....the same night as Pitt hosts NC at Heinz. Can't they avoid these conflicts?
Gerry Dulac
11:05
You must be a Pitt fan. Not ideal situation, but doubt it will affect the crowd at Heinz Field

Bud Dupree Defensive Player of the Week! I had forgotten that he had as many sacks this time last year before the pec injury. Where are the naysayers to the option now?
Gerry Dulac
11:09
You are confused my friend. For one, Bud never had a pec injury last year. He played all 16 games and finished with 5 1/2 sacks. He had 3 1/2 after eight games. The six sacks he has after eight games this year already ties his career high for a season, set in 2017. Got it?

Do you think the training wheels on Mason is a lack of confidence in him from the coaches or himself? Have not seen a lot of deep throws so I'm curious as to why that's happening. I mean what...13 check downs to Samuels?????
Gerry Dulac
11:10
I think the training wheels, as you call them, is a result of him never have played an NFL game before Week 2. It's a result of him having started just five games. Nothing more.

11:11
Tomlin said he is not worried about JUJU's stats and as long as they keep winning, I'm not worried either. But the absence of a true #2 receiver is troubling me some. Why hasn't anyone emerged from the pack of DJ, JW, or Holton to claim that role and responsibility? Do you think someone would've already emerged had Ben not gotten injured?
Gerry Dulac
11:12
I think the passing game would have been an entirely different product if Ben were playing. That's no knock against Rudolph or even Duck, just testament to what Ben can do and what he means to the offense. It's very simple, actually.

Hi Jerry -   At half way mark, biggest surprise of season has to be Bud D and biggest disappointment JuJu.  Bud's health and lack of #7 and #84 no doubt factors here, but do you think 2019 performance is more the norm for both of these players?
Gerry Dulac
11:13
No, I think there's no question JuJu's performance is hindered by not having No. 7. Dupree is playing the way the coaches expected, though it took five years to show it. But I also think there's great motivation playing in the final year of a contract.
Jerry
11:14
Do you think Davis and Fitzpatrick would be better on the field together instead of Edmunds?
Gerry Dulac
11:14
Absolutely not. Next

11:14
Hi Gerry, since Moncrief is picked up by Carolina, does it annul Steelers liability of contracct money due? How did the steelers go so wrong in acquiring him in the first place?
Gerry Dulac
11:16
No. They are still on the books for his signing bonus, which was $3.5 milion. How did they go so wrong? Well, I never thought he was anything more than Justin Hunter, but I (and they, I'm sure) didn't expect what they got.

Hi Gerry! What do you think is the best way for the Steelers to neutralize Donald and Ramsey - stretch the field or more dinking and dunking? Seems like Mason is going to have to go through his reads quicker for the team to have a chance.
Gerry Dulac
11:18
He's been going through them very quickly anyway with all those checkdowns and short tosses. And I don't think he's getting to all his reads, either, because he's still so inexperienced. It's not like Ben is backing there going through his progressions.
Paul
11:18
Gerry, do you think what we are seeing out of Rudolph is who he is or just a young guy still getting his feet under him at this level?
Gerry Dulac
11:22
He has started five games. He is 3-2 in those games. He has thrown 10 TDs and 4 interceptions, 2 of which aren't his fault. His rating is 94.7. Yes, he is and will continue to still get his feet wet. But what he is, given the situation, has been pretty good.

11:22
On the Nelson DPI penalty, I thought as long as the defender was looking back for the ball it was not PI.  He was clearing looking back.  Am I wrong on that part of the rule?
Gerry Dulac
11:22
No you're not. But just because you're looking back doesn't mean you haven't interfered. That being said, I thought it was an awful call too.

Gerry, Mason is doing good generally but is there really a big diference between him an Duck ? You’ve seen both in practice and we saw Duck in chargers game and he did pretty good.. or is it only because of draft status in your view? Thank You
Gerry Dulac
11:23
Yes there is.
TommyBoy
11:23
Gerry, was the fine on Tomlin for not reporting Ben's injury BEFORE he went out against the Seahawks? I'm confused. How would he have known?
Gerry Dulac
11:26
I'm sure the fine was levied against him and the Steelers because the injury involved Ben Roethlisberger, not some backup safety, and it came out after the Seattle game that his elbow was bothering him after the NE game. That being said, Ben practiced that whole week, so it wasn't like they held him out and never said why.

11:26
Gerry, if Big Ben retires or is traded before the 2020 season do the Steelers have any dead money against their 2020 cap?  If so, how much?  Thanks
Gerry Dulac
11:30
First off, he won't be traded. And a team is always on the hook for the remaining portion of the signing bonus that was pro-rated over the life of the deal. And that all counts the first year after he retires. So, if that happens, or he is traded after this season, his pro-rated signing bonus of $12.5 million in 2020 and $12.5 million in 2021 would count $25 million against their cap in 2020.

I think Mason Rudolph has done a pretty good job given the lack of a good running game and also working with a group of young receivers.  Yes, he’s throwing too much to check down backs. But, that’s better than forcing balls and having turnovers. The game should slow down for him as he gains more experience. Do you believe he can become a high quality NFL starter?
Gerry Dulac
11:32
I think more time is needed to make that assessment, but there has been nothing for a guy who has started five NFL games to suggest he can't be that. I don't think he's a franchise quarterback, but he's good enough to win with.
Jack Splat
11:33
Gerry,  Can this offense score enough against Donald and company to pull out a win?  Hopefully Mason will have that breakout game and get TD's instead of FG's.  Thanks.
Gerry Dulac
11:36
JS, prior to beating two teams with just one combined victory, the Rams allowed 105 points in the previous three games. According to my math, that's an average of 35 points per game. The Steelers have scored 20 or more points in seven consecutive games. Do you know how many teams in the NFL can say that? You can count 'em on one hand, even just several fingers. And New England isn't one of them. Or the Packers. I'm not saying they're an offensive machine, but they have found ways to score points.

Gerry even with Bud season goin’ well so far, would be a bad business decision to resign for more than 10 yearly honestly, 1 good season out of 5 and stats look better with T.J. on the other side and the defense he is playing.. see Levon with jets same to Bud if he leaves for more cash .. Your thoughts?
Gerry Dulac
11:39
I think if he continues playing the way he is, with that type of production, he is in line to get a big contract in free agency from another team. Edge rushers are desirable around the league and get big money. Bud and his agent would be silly not to put themselves out there. He will get more than what the Steelers would want to offer

Gerry,  Do you think this D can keep the game close?  Any chance of bad weather?  Thanks.
Gerry Dulac
11:39
They have been keeping it close with the takeaways.
