Gerry thanks for coverage and these chats.
You have much better insight and understanding of how the Steelers operate than we do so can I ask you to help me understand how Rooney watches & allows the Canada ineptitude to continue?  And what’s it say about Tomlin’s unwillingness to do the right thing and send Canada packing months ago? Thank you.

I'm not sure I understand either, to be honest. I was a bit surprised he was brought back this year but I don't expect that be the case for next season. I also don't expect him to be fired before the season is over, like some people want or think will happen. But I wouldn't be surprised if some of his duties were altered to include someone else. Or, here's a novel idea, how about meeting with the other offensive assistants when  developing a game plan???

Gerry: the Steelers have been cavalierly trading away late round picks for fringe players or using them on QBs that can't even get a rep in camp.  With that background, does it amaze you that they continue to stick with Pressley Harvin seemingly just to justify that they used a 7th round pick on him?
Gerry Dulac

Yes it does. I thought that last year. His inconsistency and failure to deliver the monster punts -- the reason they drafted him after all -- do not merit such faith.

Thanks for the chats Gerry.  I guess I am one of the few that actually likes what I see from Pinkett.  He seems to have all the attributes of a good QB, maybe even great.  Good arm strength, good pocket presence and he is smart with a great work ethic.  Kid will learn so let him learn.  And if I didnt have a life I would dig up first year stats for Manning, Aikman and Bradshaw...which were not good.

I don't think anyone should question if Kenny Picket will be a good quarterback (I'll hold off on the 'great' proclamation). He has all the intangibles in addition to having many of the measurables. He is going to make mistakes and cost them games, which he already has. They just have to live with it. The problem is, Mike Tomlin made this change earlier than he wanted and should have, and now he will sacrifice victories (two already) at the sake of development, something that is not typically in his DNA. You have heard him say many times "Winning is our business." And that is not the business he is conducting right now.

Thanks for the chats Gerry.   Najee Harris has all the physical tools and a great work ethic but it seems he may be lacking “Vision” in his running style.  Warren seems to see holes better and James Connor was not as gifted physically but I feel he was able to anticipate holes and read block extraordinarily well.  Granted the line was better then but with Najee’s physical ability shouldn’t he be producing better as a No. 1 pick?

penalties penalties penalties… pre-snap penalties especially cost us any chance that we had to win that game at the end… doesn’t that show a lack of team discipline?…. and doesn’t that go back directly to coaching?..

To a degree, but I'm not going to lay everything on them. Sometimes the player just has to be smarter, not to give the coaching a pass

Hi G! Firstly: If you send KD a deaththreat, please get help. This is not to taunt or insult you. I'm genuinely concerned for you and those around you. Now my question: have we as a fanbase finally and completely lost our minds? I love football way to much, but come on!
Gerry Dulac
10:08
Marc, you use the word 'finally' as though this is a recent development. I think it is just the latest example of what has been going on for years and years

Looks like a good QB draft unlike this year. Steelers with high pick could package that for several later picks because they won’t need a QB. Makes sense?
Gerry Dulac
10:09
Nope. They made their QB pick, though your point about this year's class is well understood

Hi Gerry. Thanks for the chats. What can possibly be the mindsets of both Mike Tomlin and Matt Canada with regard to the Steelers lack of effectiveness of their offensive strategy and game time play calling? Are they both in denial with a fixed mindset? Is Canada in good graces presently with Tomlin? How are they working through the difficulties with the scheme not working?
Gerry Dulac
10:13
This might sound strange, but i haven't had a huge problem with the flow of the play-calling for the most part. However, the bottom line is this offense doesn't produce points, and hasn't since the start of last season. And the only time they did was when No. 7 took control in the fourth quarter and called what he knows will work best. I'm not sure too many other head coaches would have tolerated such lack of productivity. A bigger problem is the players losing trust in the offensive coordinator

I am in the one percentile of golf watchers. Watch every Sunday and have been following Rocco’s recent good play in Champions. Looks like hel’ll get into the top 36 finals. I don’t miss the Liv guys. Do you think Liv overestimated the value of signing big names?
Gerry Dulac
10:14
I think this thing still has more to play out.

While I agree in allowing Kenny Pickett to play through his struggles to further his development, I can’t help but wonder why Mason Rudolph wasn’t afforded this same luxury. He was pulled after one bad half in favor of an undrafted free agent. Then they jump at the opportunity to sign another team’s failed QB who has 50 starts on his resume under the premise he hasn’t reached his full potential, all while concluding Rudolph isn’t the answer despite having only 1/5 the starts of Trubisky. To What do you attribute this apparent hypocrisy by Coach Tomlin?
Gerry Dulac
10:15
The fact that Kenny Pickett was a No. 1 draft choice and not a third-rounder. But, I am searching for money to pay you

Would you say the Steelers are in rebuild?  If so why not trade Claypool and Rudolph to add draft picks for next year.  OL and DL need young talent badly.  Thank you.
Gerry Dulac
10:16
The problem is, they don't think they are in a rebuild, even though they are because of a rookie quarterback. But don't hold your breath about any trades before Tuesday

Other than the Buff blowout Steelers could have won all the other games. That said they could be 0-7. Do you agree with MT that this young team is not far away?
Gerry Dulac
10:18
I do not agree. I also don't think 0-7, but definitely 1-6. I also think if Mason Rudolph were the quarterback they would have won Jets game and Miami game.

Good morning Gerry. I believe we are at the point of letting Pickett get valuable experience. Yes the point is to win every game, but losses may be more than usual.. And can Mr. Rooney please tell Coach Tomlin to get some NFL experienced assistants. Thank you as always for taking my questions
Gerry Dulac
10:19
There is no doubt they are at the point of letting Pickett get valuable experience. But this is the NFL, not a college program, and that stands for Not For Long for a coach's security if he is interested in playing for next year.

Why was Tomlin putting the blame for Miami loss on defense for dropping INTs? Did he expect his offense to take advantage by throwing passes behind the line of scrimmage to a 280 pound backup tight end?
Gerry Dulac
10:22
I don't know that it was so much blame he was assigning as it was an observation he was making. But let me say this -- Mike Tomlin says things on Tuesday that are subtle messages to his players and even coaches. So, sometimes when it appears he's issuing blame, he's actually challenging his players. And sometimes when he's not placing blame publicly, he does something different privately. Keep that in mind.

Odds that Matt Canada gets fired before the end of the season?
Gerry Dulac

Not very good

10:23
Has Tomlin, or Canada, ever explained why the offense mostly ignores the middle of the field?
Gerry Dulac
10:24
They are asked all the time. And the answers are always vague. Non-answers, if you will
