OK kids, let's get our chat started...Go!!

Hi Gerry!  Generally, byes are good for healing up, but does this by help the young QBs, or will that only come from in-game experience at this point?
Gerry Dulac
10:52
I don't think so. The team only practices two days during a bye week, and very lightly. What's more, because of the weather, today's practice has been cancelled, so it isn't like the bye week is used to practice and work on things. It's actually more beneficial for the coaches, who get a chance to review some of what is and is not working.

Cam Sutton has been outstanding. After Watt and JJSS does he become next in line to get a new deal?
Gerry Dulac
10:53
He has been solid and made three big plays vs. the Chargers. But I don't think it's at the point where he is jumping to the front of the line for a new deal.

I watched the Chargers game again and I can not for the life of me see how Burns get a game ball. Was that just the coaches trying to boost his confidence?  I sure hope Cam Sutton got one...
Gerry Dulac
10:54
I think that's part of it. That has been his issue since last season -- confidence -- and the players went out of their way to talk about the job he did stepping in. And rightfully so.

How would you assess the Minkah trade thus far? I love it. People complain that the Steelers may have top 10 pick next year. But if Minkah were coming out of school next year.. Knowing what we know... He would be top 10 pick. And steelers would be looking for secondary help and would likely draft him anyway. This takes all guesses out the equation. It's not a coincidence that our D has been playing much better last few weeks. He has helped immediately.

I agree. I have said all along I like the player but I wasn't crazy about trading away a future No. 1. Fitzpatrick is only going to get better in this defense. And he's the type of guy/player who become a leader in the defense. There is no doubt he has already made them better. He goofed on the TD pass in the back of the end zone against the Chargers, but that was a "call mistake" he made because he's still getting adjusted to what the Steelers do.

Gerry, it seems like Tuitt was having his best year to date, but once again is injured. Do you think it's time to look for his replacement?
Gerry Dulac
11:01
He was having his best year, but I don't think they will go looking for a replacement. Not after what they were seeing from him.

Care to make a prediction on the rest of the season?  I can see 9 - 7, maybe even 10 - 6.  Not too bad of a schedule left and the defense is looking really good.
Gerry Dulac
11:02
I think 9-7 is a more reasonable expectation, because I don't see them going 8-2 the rest of the way with the significant injuries they've already had.

Gerry, Vance McDonald is such a beast with the ball in his hands. Why isn’t he a bigger part of the Steelers’ game plan?
Gerry Dulac
11:04
Well, in case you haven't noticed, he gets injured a lot. He's been trying to play through his issues, but that's not always easy. He wasn't used much in the second half in LA.

I was at the game from Pittsburgh and have to say it was probably the best live sporting event I’ve been to.  Can you just comment on your thoughts about the atmosphere and how Steeler Nation truly took over?  Gotta admit I got goosebumps several times.
Gerry Dulac
11:06
It was one of the most impressive things I've seen. I've been at other games in San Diego, Dallas and Miami where there were probably as many Steelers fans, but never (because of the small stadium) where they made up for such a large percentage of the attendance.

Have you ever seen so many trades in the NFL?? There used to be like 2 over an entire year-
Gerry Dulac
11:06
Nope. It's become the NHL

I thought the backend of the defense did a respectable job vs LAC, with Cam Sutton, looking great, BUT, looks as though defense can not come up with an answer to SLOW DOWN a TE, as usual--

You can't stop everything.

Besides Ben, is TUitt the biggest loss?
Gerry Dulac
11:07
He is a BIG loss, Mr. Big. yes

Hi Gerry, with Ben out for the year and with now three young QB's wouldn't it be wise for the Steelers to employ a QB coach?
Gerry Dulac
11:09
They have one, as you probably know -- Randy Fichtner. But I'm guessing you mean a coach who devotes ALL his time to the QBs. That would probably be wise, but the Steelers also did not plan on having two young QBs with no NFL experience as their starters.

Gerry, is it just me because it seems like Edmonds is always just a step behind and very seldom in position to be a disruptive force.
Gerry Dulac
11:10
I haven't noticed

I hope the coaches realize the offense can succeed when your QB goes under center. Good job by Ducky !  How is Mason in concussion protocol?  I also read that James Connors is not seeing eye to eye with Tomlin. Is that true?
Gerry Dulac
11:11
I think they realize that about being under center. And not sure where you're reading or seeing that about Conner.

There is much to criticize about the coaches and front office but they deserve credit for keeping Boswell around. It would have been easy to cut him but his prior performance warranted the patience. The results are evident - at least to date. Well done!
Gerry Dulac
11:13
You're right to an extent, but I disagree -- it would have been very difficult to cut him. To me, it was an easy decision to keep him. He had three great years and one bad one. You make the decision on the larger body of work, not on the exception.

Gerry, this defense seems to really be coming on.  What would be one piece that the Steelers could add in the off-season, to make it dominant?
Gerry Dulac
11:15
I think they have the personnel when Tuitt is there to be very good. A younger Mark Barron or a ball-hawking defensive back for the sub packages might be the final pieces.

Do you think Moncrief has turned the corner and will end up being a good signing?  Steelers could sure use him...
Gerry Dulac
11:20
I don't know if he has turned the corner but he sure did make a very nice catch the other night. I think it will earn him a few more snaps.

11:20
Was the offensive line that much better or was it Chargers being inept?
Gerry Dulac
11:21
The offensive line, in terms of protection, has been outstanding. But I think they're getting better in terms of having a run-mindset.
Jud

Can the Steelers make the playoffs?
Gerry Dulac

Sure

Better players or better scheme, the reason for the uptick?
