OK kids, we're going to start out chat in a couple minutes....

OK, here we go....

Quarterbacks  around the league are getting contracts around a quarter of a Billion dollars. Is it to much to ask that they "get comfortable" taking a snap under center?
Gerry Dulac

Sarcasm in the morning....love it. Goes great with coffee.

Hi Gerry. Do you expect Russell Wilson to be the backup Sunday night vs the Cowboys and possibly the starter against the Raiders the following week? Is it easier for Mike Tomlin to make the switch after Justin Fields' sloppy game against the Colts?
Gerry Dulac
10:00
I don't know for sure right now which role Wilson will assume Sunday, but I'm going to imagine if he a full participant in practice he will be the back against the Cowboys and not the emergency third QB. As for Fields, yes, he made some typical Fields mistakes -- the kind we saw in Chicago -- but I think his good far outweighed the bad in that game.

Heard Augusta took a big hit from the storm?
Gerry Dulac
10:00
I'm sure they did

It is of my opinion (which means nothing) if we don’t try to upgrade at WR, are we really trying to move forward in the playoffs? I’d like to at least win a playoff game.
Gerry Dulac
10:01
Your opinion counts here Jake. Maybe only for a minute, but it counts. joy

Hi Gerry. I think a lot of the problems that showed up Sunday are fixable. This could be a really good team, but will it be a really good team? What does your crystal ball say?
Gerry Dulac
10:02
My crystal ball says it's not good enough to beat out the Ravens.

The Minkah call was bad. But so was the roughing call on Fields, right? These things tend to balance out and people react to the timing in the game.
Gerry Dulac
10:03
Yes they do. It's just like when they complain about penalties that negated big plays or third-down conversions. They forget about the ones against the other team that kept their scoring drives alive. That falls on deaf ears with me

10:03
So many questions regarding our qb position, but the one that will answer them all is which one will they extend considering neither is under contract after this season?  Do you think the organization has changed their position on Wilson?
Gerry Dulac
10:04
That's right. And it's too early to say they've changed their mind on Wilson. We need to see him first
John from Toronto
10:04
Hi Gerry. Will the Steelers take a serious run at acquiring Davante Adams? I suspect the competition for him will be fierce and he may prefer to go to a contender with the Chiefs being the obvious landing spot. Do you get a sense management is looking hard at WR2 after what they've seen so far this season?
Gerry Dulac
10:05
I sure hope so. And, yes, the Chiefs look like a perfect spot for him. Here, too, though
Jake
10:05
How concerned are you at the depth of OLB rush position?
Gerry Dulac
10:05
I'm not. Highsmith will be back in a couple weeks. And Herbig is a good replacement.

A factor in bringing in Russ would be escapability, no? At least Fields can get out of the way. A friend from Chicago watched the game and said the two mistakes by Justin defined him there.......largely good play but a couple brain numbers you can't overcome.
Gerry Dulac
10:07
Correct. That's why he won only 10 games in 38 starts in Chicago. I'd tell your friend "Pay the man!" but we don't do wire transfers outside the chat.

Do players hear the noise of social media hype? Referring to the defense. We did not appear to emulate a top 3 NFL defense last week. Not sure how you can not be ready for a game when you only play 17 of them a year.
Gerry Dulac
10:07
That was just last week. First three weeks, yes they did.

Good Morning Gerry.  There were clearly communication breakdowns in the secondary against the Colts.. and they seemed mostly stay in Nickle even when Flacco came in.  Is that a Tomlin call or Austin?
Gerry Dulac
10:07
Mostly Tomlin

what are the chances Steelers make a move at the trade deadline?
Gerry Dulac
10:08
There's always a chance. They still have another month to do so, so anything can happen

Can we expect Russ to be active and QB2 this week and no longer Emergency Inactive QB3?
Gerry Dulac
10:08
Probably

Hey Gerry, love your writing, thanks for the chat. What do you think Hines chances for the HOF this year? I know I’m biased as a Steelers fan but I don’t understand why he’s not in. Stats are strong, he’s got Pro Bowls, Super Bowls and was a SB MVP. Not to mention he was the absolute best blocking wideout in the league. I know there’s a backlog at wideout but he’s overqualified in my opinion. Thanks.

Gerry - Thanks as always for the great insights.  What is the Steelers level of frustration with Najee at this point?   He has zero vision or burst and this year it seems like he is visibly showing his own frustration after each carry.  It is quite stark to see the difference between him and Cordarelle.  It isn't like the line is blocking differently.
Gerry Dulac
10:10
We see the difference when Jaylen Warren is in the game, too. Maybe that's why the Steelers wanted to see how he would fit in Arthur Smith's offense -- the reason they quietly gave for not picking up his fifth-year option.

HC Tomlin always says he likes to be “comfortable with the uncomfortable”. He asked Kevin Dotson, Fautanu, Brod Jones, Kendrick Greene and Matt Fieler to switch positions in a number of instances but Dan Moore can’t? Contradicts himself by cementing Moore at LT, and making others be Position flexible? Makes no sense. Why is Moore so special??   Why can't he switch spots??   He's vastly overrated at LT IMO
Gerry Dulac
10:11
Dan Moore is not special. He's just position-limited. But I disagree -- he is not vastly overrated. And he won't be vastly overrated when he gets a big contract in free agency next year

Good morning Gerry - Looking into your crystal ball, do we have a legitimate shot at a trade with the Raiders for Adams? Thanks for all of your chats!
Gerry Dulac
10:15
If they did, they would be responsible for the $7.85 million he is due in salary each of the next two seasons and the remaining $7.85 million in salary this year. It makes the $100,000 workout bonus he gets in 2025 and 2026 look like tip money

Hi Gerry.  You mentioned in your quarterly analysis the other day how the new kickoff rule is a bust so far.  I agree. Do you know if teams practiced it in camp and found they weren’t stopping returns before the 30 or are they just that apathetic about the extra 5 yards for a touchback?   And is there any chance we see teams kick it in play more as the weather gets colder, wetter, and more difficult footing for the return man?
Gerry Dulac
10:16
I'm not sure what it is, but there's no question the new rule has backfired. Instead of increasing the number of kick returns, it has further decreased them
