Gerry, I've seen enough of Aaron Rodgers (and "Hands of Stone” Metcalf). This is not a Superbowl team nor even a playoff team. So let's start a combination of Drew Allar and Will Howard at QB going forward, and see if a franchise quarterback emerges. If so, the Steelers are set up for the future, and if not, the Steelers get a high draft pick to draft a QB. What's wrong with my plan?

if JPJ sits out this week, do the Steelers take the we want volunteers and not hostages approach and try to facilitate a trade (if anyone is interested). Or do we see them actually start to fine and suspend him and keep him away from the team?

Call this what you want -- a situation, a dilemma, a charade -- it's not going to continue much longer. If Joey decides to play, then all that nonsense in OTAs and minicamp, and then the sudden injury in training camp, was for naught? What was the purpose? If he decides to play, after walking away from something just north of $27 million, and risking injury, how much sense does that make? I like Joey. More importantly, the Steelers like Joey, too. But this won't drag on

I don't have a problem with his amount of snaps. They want to rotate different guys in there to keep them as fresh as possible. No issue

I'm sure it is terribly frustrating for him. It's like Scottie Scheffler missing all those 2- and 3-foot putts this year. Eventually, it starts to wear on you and makes even the simplest tap-in cause for a basket of nerves. With DK, it's the same. The easy passes are the ones he's dropping.

That young stuff is ridiculous. These guys have played plenty of NFL football, most of them together. Now, I'm willing to allow for the flip-flop of right side-left side. But, unlike Aaron Rodgers, Metcalf, Watt, Heyward, et al., the offensive line played several series together in every preseason game. I'm not suggesting they're not very good because I believe they are. It's been a tough start to the season, but it's a long way to go. As Dick LeBeau once said, "I've seen sicker dogs than this get well in a hurry."

Most of the blame for the ineptitude of the offense belongs to the players but what about McCarthy’s play calling? Where are the check downs to the backs, hot receivers on a blitz, screen passes?

It's a lot of everything. I've seen plenty of checkdowns to the backs and teams are reluctant to blitz Rodgers a lot because he's so good at picking them up. As for screens, I think those are right up there with the tackle-eligible in McCarthy's offese.

It seems Porter is either faking the back injury or didn't keep himself in playing condition which could be related. What’s the worse look for Porter and does it reflect poorly on his character regardless?

I was told by medical people who know that there is no blood test that determines a person's level of pain. If JPJ says he has pain in his back, even though he has been deemed healthy enough to play, then he must have pain in his back, right?? I'll say this, the whole thing does not reflect positively on Porter, which is too bad

Hey Gerry, thanks for the chat. Something I’ve noticed about DK is that he just doesn’t look natural catching passes, especially contested ones. Whereas Hines or Swann looked like it came natural to them. DK can run fast, jump high and is strong but he just doesn’t look like a natural at wide receiver if that makes sense. Swann and Ward weren’t particularly fast but they were players. DK looks more like an athlete than a football player to me. Thoughts?

Sure. They could start fining him. They could suspend him. But if he keeps saying he has pain in his back and is unable to play, what then? One thing for certain: This whole mess is headed for a battle with the players association.
