OK kids, we will start our chat in just a bit so get ready....

Ok, here we go...Fire away!

Canada has now had 37 games to prove he's capable of putting an NFL level offense on the field and he has not even come close to doing so. Why keep him around for another 15 games? Might as well see what Sullivan or another staff member is capable of, then make a decision in the offseason on who to be the next OC
Gerry Dulac

Now this is the way I like to start our chat -- with a guy who makes a lot of sense!

I dont understand why so many are calling for Mitch to take over, are we forgetting just how bad he was last year? he didnt exactly light up the preseason this year either, just let the young guy try and work through his funk and see if he can prove hes the guy if not then move on.
Gerry Dulac
10:00
I think you are forgetting how wrong you are. Go back and check when he came off the bench and had to play for Pickett. Best QB play they received all year.

They said they kept Canada for Kennys development, at what point do they realize hes hurting Kennys development and not helping it?
Gerry Dulac
10:02
Actually, they never really said WHY they were keeping him. They only intimated that having that him here would help with the continuity.

you and other reporters complain (justifiably) just as loudly on social media about things as fans - namely the play calling on this case. Why then don’t you and others asked MT directly about Canada and why he is still in charge or Canada about specific plays instead of dancing around the issues with general and open ended questions that allow them to skirt the issues? Serious question - are y’all afraid that the org will get upset with you?

I stopped reading when you said "You."

Good morning Gerry. Tons of frustration with the offensive direction of this team. Many factors are a part of it. What do you feel is the underlying reason they have not hired a proven experienced offensive coordinator? Not only hindering development of Pickett but entire team. And as always thank you for your response
Gerry Dulac
10:03
I'm not exactly sure of the reason, but the body of work we have seen for 36 games now would suggest your observation has a lot of merit.

When teams/athletes are in a slump, it is always time to go back to basics and play to strengths. What do you see as basics and strengths with the Steelers offense?
Gerry Dulac
10:07
The most basic element is running the football. But let's be fair here: there were a lot of big plays the other night. In fact, five of 20+ yards. OK, I know that's not the stuff of when Ben had AB and Martavis Bryant, but big plays were made in the pass game. There's no question there were some positive signs the other night. Problem is, the negatives still outweigh the positives. And, no matter what, they can't score points, specifically TDs

Good morning, Gerry. What do you think the chances are that the Steelers could have scored on those two turnovers if Highsmith and Watt were tackled outside the end zone?
Gerry Dulac
10:07
Hypothetical, Mike. To quote Bill Cowher, I don't play the what-if game.

Hi Gerry:  Thanks for the chats.   I think the most important play of the year so far was against CLE with 3:02 on the clock; third and 1 with the game on the line. No full back, a 160# WR-Austin on the line, and Canada calls some kind of QB roll to the right with no lead blocker.   That should have been his last call as Steeler OC.
Gerry Dulac
10:08
I'm not going to argue. It was among the worst calls I've seen -- call a read option with a quarterback who is not, and never has been, a read-option QB.

Good Morning Mr. Dulac.  I listened to the MT's press conference yesterday and listened to his explanation state that the Browns came out with 5 defensive linemen and they were caught off guard.   This is the second week in a row they have been caught off guard by the defense.  Are we unable to make adjustments on the fly or are we too confident in our game plan that what we are going to run our plays no matter what?  Who has the primary responsibility to make adjustments and do we have to wait until halftime to make them?
Gerry Dulac
10:09
It's all on the coaches. Jerome Bettis always liked to say that football is a game of adjustments. So...adjust already!!!

Have you heard if Pickett has been instructed not to scramble? Or is he choosing not to? Seems like some opportunities have been there, and then the one time he should have handed off to Harris and not scrambled he did and lost yardage.
Gerry Dulac
10:11
No, I don't think he is told not to scramble. Don't think that all. But it's possible they want him to be more judicious when he does, though I even doubt that as well. He needs to use his feet more if his hands/arm aren't working so well.

Can you give some insight as to why Pat Friermuth has not been involved in the offense so far??? And why there has been no attempt to use Washington as a pass catcher, especially when our receivers seem to have trouble getting open??? Thanks
Gerry Dulac
10:13
Good question....part of it is what defenses are taking away from Pickett. Just because you might want to throw to the tight end doesn't mean you can. The coverage dictates to the QB where he can go with the ball. That's what separates the good QBs from the bad ones. That, and talent, of course.

Hi Gerry!  How many sacks would TJ be be racking up if he was playing with a lead once in a while?
Gerry Dulac

Can't imagine.

When is it time to sit Najee and let Jaylon Warren have a lot more touches.  Seems like there’s no jump in Najee’s legs.
Gerry Dulac
10:21
The snap count is getting closer to being more 50-50 already. Najee had 31 snaps, Warren had 23 against Cleveland -- probably the first time the snaps have been split like that since 22 was drafted. And the touches against the Browns were very similar -- 10 Najee, 9 Warren.

At away games usually the evening before the game, the  Steelers media do an event at a sports bar, where  is the party at in Vegas Saturday?
Gerry Dulac
10:24
Bob, if there is one, nobody told me.

Hi gerry, as an Australian who has just started watching football, has it ever happened before that a team had a 4th quarter comeback while having negative offensive yards in the quarter?
Gerry Dulac
10:25
Not unless the defense was scoring all the TDs
Amos Zeroue
10:25
Just read the PFF article where Dan Moore got a 3.5 out of 100 for his pass blocking against the Browns. How many sacks did Garrett have? If he gets a goose egg against a 3.5 performance, what gives? That does not seem very elite.
Gerry Dulac
10:27
I get your point, but you have to understand it wasn't just Dan Moore or Chuks Okorafor blocking him 1 on 1. They were getting help from the TE and RB, too. Garrett's stats line was almost flat, so it appears he had no impact on the game. But he really does because of the commitment the Steelers make to containing him.
Paul from Beaver Falls

What has to happen for Canada to get fired?  Why not demote him to ball boy?
Gerry Dulac
10:27
A lot.

When will we change our offense coordinator.?

Thanks for these wonderful chats, you make my Wednesday.  Third and 1 we run a zone option read, two point conversion at the one, we go up the middle and try to jump over the Dline from the 3 yard line.  Almost every other team I watch uses some form of a fullback.  Is our problem that we traded our fullback to the Texans for a 6th round pick and don't we have anyone else to use for that position?
Gerry Dulac
10:29
Hey, glad I can make your day! No, Derek Watt being gone isn't the problem. In fact, I'm not sure I recall too many times when I said, 'Whoa, did you see that block by Watt?' But maybe that's why they were doing to Kendrick Green experiment in the preseason. Maybe they should consider using ILB Mark Robinson in that role. He was a former RB. And he's very physical.
