OK kids, we're going to start our chat shortly so get ready with your questions.....
9:55
OK, let's get started...Go!!

Why didn't the steelers go for 2 on the last touchdown? That would have made the score a 3 possession game, and taken the giants' chances from slim to none.
Gerry Dulac
9:55
Sounds like you bet the over. I had no problem with what they did.

Good morning Gerry, just reviewing the rookies I was impressed with Chase and also Alex highsmith..highsmith looks like he could be great as a linebacker and he seems very confident when he’s out there how’s your opinion on our rookies so far
Gerry Dulac
9:57
I never like to use the word "great" to describe a third-round draft choice after one game but I like Highsmith. He looks like a Steelers LB. And I think he will be very good, a future starter for sure.

Good morning Gerry & thanks as always! Is there any word yet on if DeCastro will be back this week?
Gerry Dulac

I have not heard yet Ed, but I might find out today

Did anyone else notice how bad the ESPN announcers were on Monday.?
Gerry Dulac
9:59
That's what I heard from one of my colleagues and then I heard someone else say how good they were. I don't hear the broadcast at the game. But I will say this, I think Herbie, as a college analyst, is the best of any color analyst in any sport.

Greetings Gerry -  Outside of the seal it end around play to 11 near the end of the game, the pre-snap stuff seemed to be pure window dressing.  If they are trying to set up plays, which skill players other than 11 and perhaps McFarland when he gets a hat will be in the mix for getting the ball off the pre-snap motions?
Gerry Dulac
10:00
I actually thought they used less motion and shifting than I thought they would. It was certainly less than what we would in training camp at times. But I think you will see any number of players get involved w this stuff, including 18, 13 and 19

I think it's time to say it, Benny Snell deserves to be our new Bell cow! Nothing against Conner, but you just can't rely on him. If both are healthy on Sunday Gerry, who starts?
Gerry Dulac
10:01
If both are healthy, Conner starts. But his injury issues, which were already a concern, have been heightened already again. I feel bad for the guy that he can't stay healthy.

Hi Gerry -  I heard Tomliin take the bullet on not taking full advantage of the new rules for maximizing players that suit up on game day.  What in the world were they seeking clarity on?  Do the coaches meet the day before each game and decide who the inactives are going to be and when is that info conveyed to the impacted players?  This was bush league error IMO.
Gerry Dulac
10:03
It had nothing to do with any aspect of the game, certainly not the outcome. He made the proper move, considering he didn't understand his options -- he erred on the side of caution. If you want to get caught up in that and call it is a bush league error you're wasting your time

Gerry - I feel bad for the guy because he can’t avoid the injuries but the time has come to move on from #30 and make #24 the new bell cow! Your thoughts?
Gerry Dulac
10:04
I feel bad for the guy too. And I understand the desire of everybody thinking it's time to go to 24. I'm not one of them.

Gerry , The Steelers D is back, Ben is back and the Browns are still the Browns. Not bad for the first week. Really glad we started with NY and now Denver.
Gerry Dulac
10:05
Well, that's a good way to look at it.

I know the answer is always "Ben will be Ben," but some of those delayed sacks he took Monday night were ridiculous, particularly for a 17-year vet. Do you think it's at all possible that Canada, Fichtner, Tomlin, his wife, someone, can convince him that at 38 his escapability might not be what it once was and he's got to get rid of the ball quicker when things break down?
Gerry Dulac
10:06
I didn't even read the rest of your question because my answer was already ready -- relax!! It was the first game, his first in a year. Give him a break. Everybody seems to be applauding his comeback performance. Except you

Hi Gerry  -  Defense was great against Giants - particulary the front 7.  The only criticism I have are substitution patterns.  Ola did some nice things and stood out.  But from a substitutions standpoint, it seemed like Watt and Dupree were off the field at the same time?  Same for Bush and Vince.  What say you?
Gerry Dulac
10:07
Yeah, they were winded on that 19-play drive to which you are referring. Did you not see that? That's why they came out. They had to.

I think most fans respect big Al for what he did. The question is, do you think this will cause any negative impact with his teammates?
Gerry Dulac
10:09
I agree in that he was doing what the others were doing -- expressing his right to free speech. Al is a thoughtful, introspective guy with tremendous perspective, maybe more so than anyone on the team. He chose to honor a black man who helped save lives. I applaud him

Gerry - If Bud keeps playing like this, tag him again and let 19 walk?
Gerry Dulac
10:10
Ideally, they would probably like to tag Bud for a second year. But, with the reduced cap in 2021, I don't think they can make that happen. And what did you see from JuJu in Week 1 -- six catches, 2 TDs, recovered fumble -- that makes you want to get rid of him?? You do know he's No. 19, right??
Frank
10:10
Do you expect the secondary to be an issue in coverage? Or was it more then selling out to contain the run?
Gerry Dulac
10:11
They were selling out to stop Barkley. They knew it might cause some issues in coverage, and it did on the 41-yard TD. But I have no issues whatsoever with the secondary. It's the best they have had in years and years.
Frank
10:11
Did the play of Terrell Edmunds in coverage concern you at all?
Gerry Dulac
10:12
Nope. See above answer
Frank
10:12
Do you think Benny Snell has the ability to be a really good 3 down back in the league?
Gerry Dulac
10:12
No. He doesn't catch it as well as Conner or Samuels. But I like him as a first- and second-down back
Hue
10:12
Do you think the Offensive Line was bad on Monday night? Will the Steelers make some moves perhaps and trade or pickup someone in free agency to help?
Gerry Dulac
10:12
Relax.

Hi Gerry, I always enjoy your pregame radio segment where you give the various numbers/stats. Do you get any help with the research or do you do it all yourself?
Gerry Dulac
10:13
Thanx. I do it all myself. It might be nice to have a research guy. Interested?
Nitro
10:13
Hi Gerry -  I disagree on what AV did and I'm tiring of his need to "stand-out" all of the time.  If he feels strongly about the individual - who no doubt is deserving of attention - I'm sure the press would be more than happy to do a Zoom calll with him.  What is causing commotion is that he choose to NOT close ranks when the team made a big deal about UNITY.
Gerry Dulac
10:14
I'm not going to argue your point about unity.
