OK kids, let's get our chat started....fire away

What is preventing the Steelers from admitting to themselves that Presley Harvin is an erratic and unreliable punter?
Gerry Dulac
9:58
Couple more 35-yard punts maybe.
Bill
9:58
Would you recommend the Steelers offense simply stick with the 2 minute drill for the entire next game?
Gerry Dulac
9:59
Well, that's not possible or feasible. But it might be a good way to start the game and the second half.
Bill

Why didn’t Canada try to establish the run game against the 49ers? Why put the game all on Pickett with 46 passes? That usually didn’t work out well for Big Ben.
Gerry Dulac

The run game might have had a chance to be established if the quarterback completed some passes and converted some third downs on the first five series.

Hey Gerry.  I said last week that sitting players during the preseason then asking them to give their all leads to soft tissue injuries.  What was more predictable....Cam's injury or Tomlin's game plan and Canada's play calling?
Gerry Dulac
10:02
It doesn't necessarily lead to those injuries, but I don't think there's any question it increases the possibility, especially with older players

What was more disappointing on Sunday - Steelers performance OR number of SF fans in attendance?
Gerry Dulac
10:02
I think the first one.

When I read articles saying Tomlin is a top 3 coach, I went through all of the reasons I felt he needed replaced - poor game planning, poor play calling, unmotivated players, being unprepared, standing on the sideline as a spectator, stupid undisciplined personal fouls, poor challenges, etc.  After this game, do you think Tomlin runs towards these qualities?
Gerry Dulac
10:03
Well, it's like you pointed out -- it's the reasons YOU feel he needs replaced.

Hi Gerry:  Thanks for the chats. There was blame to go all around but one thing really bothered me about the SF game.  Pickett sure looked like he has an accuracy problem when he forces throws.  It does creep up from time to time, but it seemed obvious Sunday.  He doesn’t appear to have learned to throw the ball away when no one is open, and he can’t run.
Gerry Dulac
10:05
Well, he did throw the ball away a lot last year when nobody was open. He started doing that after the bye week after he had thrown 7 picks in five games. After that, he threw just one pick in the final eight games. So he has shown he does do that. But there was no question he was inaccurate with his throws the other day.

Good morning Gerry! The Sea of red at Acrisure Stadium on Sunday, how does that happen?? I guess a little of a taste of our own medicine. I guess that's football games in the year 2023, it's so easy to get tickets to any game you want.

Bingo, Ed!

Another low for Tomlin - worst home loss ever.  This after extending the postseason futility streak to 6 years.  I know he set other feats of ineptitude last season that hasn't happened in 50+ years.  How many more of these record low marks do we need to put up with before he moves on with his life's work?

I don't want to discourage you, but.....

Do “weighty” downs always weigh the same?  I’m Fearful that the Standard doesn’t concentrate properly on all the potential Nameless Gray Faces!
Gerry Dulac

I see what you're doing there.

Hi Gerry:  Thanks for the chats. Is there such a thing as a “Punting Whisperer?”  Harvin sure needs one, he is a head case.  He reminds me of Baseball pitchers that throw strikes in warmups then go wild during games.
Gerry Dulac
10:09
His biggest problem is his inconsistency. Right behind that is his failure to use that "reported" big leg to dig them out of holes. Other than that, he's terrific.

Hi Gerry, appreciate your time. WOW. That's all I can say about the Steelers poir play Sunday. Any positives that you saw on Sundays game that we as fans can hang our hat on?
Gerry Dulac

None Gus. Unless you like sacks by TJ Watt

Hi Gerry, I disagree with those who say MT "wasted the years of his HOF QB." I'm not saying MT is above criticism but think of the HOF QB's who "only" won one SB or none. Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers, Dan Marino. Even Peyton Manning "only" won two. It not only takes a great team but a little luck to win in the playoffs and win it all. I just think it speaks of how hard it is to win the SB. Do you agree?
Gerry Dulac
10:10
Absolutely I do.

Hi Gerry from Sunday’s game do you think Kenny Pickett is a bust? I am kind of biased because I am a pitt season-ticket holder and I was at the two games Clemson in Virginia Kenneth Picketts senior year…. Can you see Mitchell trubisky being the starter at one point this season?
Gerry Dulac
10:11
I don't think he's a bust. Nor do I think he is headed to the HOF. That's because it's too early to judge him either way.

Hi Gerry, really disappointing start for the revamped ILB group. Will we see more Mark Robinson going forward because none of the others seemed to have the physicality to match what the 49ers had?
Gerry Dulac
10:11
No. Physicality is not the problem.

I thought it was reported that Leal was hurt during the game, but MT didn’t mention him during yesterday’s press conference?
Gerry Dulac
10:11
Which means his injury is not an issue

Gerry, What's the difference between "weighty" downs as opposed to "possession" downs?
Gerry Dulac
10:12
About 15 pounds.

Gerry, obviously Kenny didn't play well and that was a big reason they lost but have you ever seen a team be so thoroughly out coached? It looked like Bill Walsh vs. Urban Meyer.
Gerry Dulac
10:14
I hate to tell everyone this, but I don't think they were outcoached more than they were outplayed. The 49ers didn't do anything different from what the coaches prepared them for, yet the players looked lost out there defensively. But I do have a problem that adjustments weren't made in the second half, particularly on offense.

  • Are players or equipment personnel responsible for getting the proper cleats for field conditions on game days? Seemed like several key plays happened because Steeler players slipped early in the game.
Gerry Dulac
10:15
All players have options which shoes they want to wear. That's something they check out in pregame warmups. And, even if it happens in the game, they can still change their shoes.

The Niners receivers seem to be wide open most of the game. Partly due to talent but I feel it’s mostly due to scheme.  What is preventing the Steelers from having the same type of success. Is it Canada’s scheme or his play calling?
