OK kids, we're going to get started in just a few minutes....

OK, here we go..

Gerry: Omar Khan has not been reluctant to move on from several players that the Steelers had a lot of draft capital invested in.  Fitzpatrick, Claypool, Pickens, and Pickett were all traded away.  Why then did they risk an entire "all-in" season counting on Broderick Jones with no Plan B?  Is it just because Jones was Khan's big draft investment and those others were Colbert's?
Gerry Dulac
9:50
I don't think it's that at all. And Fitzpatrick wasn't draft capital. He came in a trade.

For being the best coverage linebacker in the world, why did Wilson always seem to be running behind and the last one to the ball carrier? Maybe it isn't a good idea to self proclaim yourself until you can back it up!?
Gerry Dulac
9:51
Even if he had a great game, boasts are not always a good idea, especially in just your second year
Yoi
9:51
So basically Kaleb Johnson is in the doghouse for the season because he didn't pass protect well in a preseason game? Talk about living in your fears!
Gerry Dulac
9:51
I don't think he's in any doghouse

There’s certain people in the Pittsburgh media who believe the Steelers were the ones who leaked the Cam Heyward hold in to the media and actually not Cam and his team. I personally do not see how that would’ve benefited the Steelers to leak that to Schefter or anyone else. Do you think the Steelers leaked it to Schefter to make Cam look bad? I just don’t see that happening when nobody even knew it was going on during camp.
Gerry Dulac
9:53
It was Heyward's agent, I'm sure with Cam's approval, who leaked it to the national media, not the local media. And the certain people in the Pittsburgh media to whom you refer have no idea what they're talking about. Mainly because they have no idea how it works with agents

Gerry, at what point do they quit playing Benton at NT? He just looks like a blocking sled out there getting pushed around and almost zero penetration on run or pass plays for that matter.
Gerry Dulac
9:54
They're run defense issues aren't just about Benton, if you're really paying attention

It's only one game, but the Minkah trade may go down as Omar's masterpiece. Ramsey gives that D so much swagger. They haven't really been a nasty D for some time. Do you think the others will feed off his example?
Gerry Dulac
9:55
Ramsey and Jonnu Smith. Pretty good deal I'd say. And guys like that can set a tone.

When will Tomlin be held accountable for the horrible defensive play? We have the highest paid defense and make unknown RBs look like Emmett Smith and even Justin Fields look like Lamar Jackson.
Gerry Dulac
9:55
Now there's a guy who knows what he's talking about

It seems that Boswell is off to another great start (should have been the Steelers MVP last year) and if he continues to perform as he did last year (which I am sure he will), how many years will his next contract be and how much do you think it will be worth?
Gerry Dulac
9:57
Whatever the amount, it will make him the highest paid kicker in the league. Right now, his average salary ($5mill) ranks 10th

Hi Gerry, it’s only one week but the defense is continuing the trend from last season. Since you’re around the team daily, is this a talent or design issue?  Whose defensive design is this, Coach T or DC Austin?
Gerry Dulac
9:58
The talent changes, though not nearly enough, but the pattern doesn't. And the defense is designed by Mike Tomlin and nobody else

Can all us panic-stricken Steeler fans take solace in the fact that Dan Moore gave up 7 pressures on Sunday? Do you know how much of his deal is guaranteed?
Gerry Dulac
9:59
I do not

Gerry:  Benton, Jones, and now add Peyton Wilson to the long list of high draft picks that look promising as rookies and then regress to players that probably shouldn't really be out there.  What is going on with the Steelers player development program for young draft picks?
Gerry Dulac
9:59
One game and you're tossing Wilson out with the garbage?? Benton, too??

Did you hear about fields post game comments about how easy it was to figure out Steelers D?  How is this even possible after all this time?  Loved the W but I am SO sick and tired of seeing teams run down our throats.  BJ and Keanu sure looking like players who won’t get a 2nd contract.   Ugh.  They need new coaches and a new defensive system apparently.  We’ve seen all this before.
Gerry Dulac
10:01
I did not hear them but thanks for pointing them up. The consistency of the inconsistency of the run defense is troubling, no question. I know Derrick Harmon didn't play, but that's one guy. But you drafted Yahya Black for a reason, so play him, too

Hi Gerry-  Would you please explain why the Steelers do not embrace the use of performance based incentives in player contracts?  Isn’t it smart business to align comp with performance?  How uncommon is the Steelers approach?  Thank you.
Gerry Dulac
10:02
How do you know they don't?
Jersey Danno
10:02
Is it possible the Jets are just...good? And this may  br remembered as a significant victory over a worthy adversary?
Gerry Dulac
10:03
It was a significant victory for a lot of reasons, but I don't think that's one of them. But, to your point, I thought the Jets looked very good and appear to be much improved

With this offense, this team can win the division and maybe secure the top spot in the AFC, right?
Gerry Dulac
10:03
If you're looking for me to agree with you, I'll withhold judgement. One game.

Would you rather have Rodgers in his prime or Roethlisberger in his prime? Rodgers at 41 looks pretty dang good.
Gerry Dulac
10:04
I'd be happy with either. But do you want to count league MVPs or Super Bowl victories?
Ryan from the sticks
10:04
When will the Steelers lose their first game?  This weekend should be an easy win, right? This defense should feast on Darnold.

If you watch the NFL, you've learned little.

I asked what ChatGPT to give its opinion on the Pittsburgh Post's Gerry Dulac. Do you agree with it's description of you?:
Gerry Dulac comes across as an affable, knowledgeable, and approachable journalist - someone you could easily imagine talking football (or golf) with over a cup of coffee. His casual tone in chats, combined with reliable insider insight, makes him both personable and authoritative, though he can come across as sarcastic and short.
Gerry Dulac
10:05
Sounds like the answer I provided Bill

Gerry: paraphrasing one of Fields's post-game quotes he said of the Steelers defense "they just do what they do".  Given the results of their last six outings dating back to last year, is it maybe time to do something else?
Gerry Dulac
10:07
Maybe, but I don't foresee Mike Tomlin changing his approach
