OK kids, we're going to start our chat is just a few minutes. Hope you didn't mind waiting an extra day for our session.

Ok kids, here we go...fire away!!

Gerry: Broderick Jones is not blaming injury for his disastrous preseason.  Russell Wilson got hurt pushing a blocking sled.  This is the 1st year of the new strength coach, who I assume Tomlin knew because Dino Tomlin probably trained under this guy at Boston College.  (I believe that it has been reported that Matt Canada recruited Dino to Maryland).  Given how easily defenders are throwing Jones around and running through him and Wilson's injury, should we be worried that Tomlin has made another Canada like JV hire of one of Dino's coaches, this time for a role as strength coach?  Or is it more on Jones maybe for not preparing correctly in his first professional offseason?
Gerry Dulac
10:02
Hey, guys get injured, and Broderick Jones injured his elbow on the first play of the first day in pads. But having a 35-year-old quarterback push a heavy sled as part of the report-day conditioning?? What guy came up with that?
Tom
10:03
Thank goodness Dan Moore only has 1 year left on his contract. Would Jones ever play in Pittsburgh if he had
Gerry Dulac
10:03
Tom wants to know ....Would Broderick Jones ever be a starter if Dan Moore Jr. had more than 1 year left on his contract?
And the answer is...yeah, if they drafted him on the first round, which they did.

Gerry, who on the o-line has impressed you to this point of training camp and preseason games.
Gerry Dulac
10:06
Fautanu, Frazier, McCormick a lot, maybe only because a little less was expected as a fourth-round choice.
Tampa Too10:06Gerry. After seeing training camp, what is your prediction for the amount of Steelers wins this year?
10:07
I don't base anything on training camp, good or bad.
Andrew from Johnstown
10:07
Good morning Gerry! With the Brandon Aiyuk trade seeming to be going no where at this point and an injury to Roman Wilson, do you see them bringing in a guy like JuJu Smith-Schuster to help fill that second WR role? Thanks!
Gerry Dulac
10:08
I'm not sure that will happen, but it couldn't hurt. Speaking of hurt, JuJu gets hurt a lot

I did have a question about the WR from San Fran- He is good, but how much of his performance could be attributed to him sharing the field with three players that are very good as well- McCaffery, Samuel, and Kittle? With all that talent alongside him, someone is bound to make a big play? Thanks- Tom
Gerry Dulac
10:09
Tom, this is true, but that being said he is very good.

I watched your interview on Eisen's show a couple of weeks ago and was impressed with how you discussed the Steelers and answered Eisen's questions- nicely done. I also noticed that you didn't use your Timothee Chalamet voice like you did with Weiss when you were on his show.

Maybe that's the difference between seeing a person speak as opposed to imagining how a person is speaking. But thanx...I think.

Excluding Brock Purdy, which QB from the 2022 draft class would you rate the highest, and would you like to see that player have a chance to start again?
Gerry Dulac
10:10
Hmmmmm....let's see....to whom might you be referring Bill?

Thanks for the coverage, Gerry!  I was at the game Saturday, and 2 things stood out:  the struggles of the line, of course, and that Fields’ passes seemed to have a lot more zip than Wilson’s.  I hadn’t heard of either of these being issues in camp, so could it just be a bad night/shaking off some rust?
Gerry Dulac
10:11
It's the preseason, let's wait till the games count. As for the zip to which you refer, Fields can zing it, no question, as much and as good as anyone in the league

Good morning Gerry. Is there a starter for the 2024 Pittsburgh Steelers not currently on the roster?
Gerry Dulac
10:11
Nope

My prediction for the 2024 Steeler’s record is 5-12. I believe this will be due to their recent poor quarterback decisions finally catching up with them, which include: resigning Ben, not giving Mason Rudoph a chance, drafting Kenny, and signing cast offs Trubisky, Wilson and Fields. What percentage chance would you assign to my 5-12 prediction?
Gerry Dulac
10:12
About as much as you think Kenny Pickett was the answer to your prayers.

Is Broderick Jones injury impacting his play or does he just need to clean things up?  From a technique standpoint, he looked completely off balance.  Compensating for the injury or just bad play?
Gerry Dulac
10:13
He was off balance because Greg Roussseau knocked him off balance, which surprised the heck outta me. But, yes, that is technique

The Steelers have replaced Canada with a legitimate NFL OC. Have replaced Pickett and Trubisky with future Hall of Famer Russell Wilson (albeit past his prime) and a talented Justin Fields. Not to mention signing Queen and adding more pieces to the offensive line with the 1st and 2nd rd draft picks. Yet, on a national level, I see many pundits predicting a worse record than they had last year. What am I missing here?
Gerry Dulac
10:14
I'm with you VLG. What you are missing is that you think those people know what they're talking about.
Rocky
10:14
The national media seems to think there is now a legit QB competition.  Mike Tomlin's comments somewhat support that notion.  Is there a legit opportunity for Justin Fields to win the job week 1?
Gerry Dulac
10:16
The only reason Justin Fields is on the team is because they traded Kenny Pickett. They brought in Russell Wilson for a reason -- because they believe he was a better option than Pickett to start winning some playoff games. The plan hasn't changed. And do you really think they would bring in a guy who won 10 games in three years -- 10!! -- and think he is going to change their fortunes based on a dozen practices at training camp and eight possession (with only 3 points) in the preseason??

I’ve noticed JuJu is still a free agent, I guess his time is done in Pittsburgh? No reunion?
Gerry Dulac

10:17
Gerry, with the poor play on the offensive line how can we properly assess what we have for a QB starter?  I believe Wilson is the best candidate to start, but aren’t we better off starting the process of building cohesion amongst the OL now?  Will a 3-6 game delay really help the young players by watching from the bench?
Gerry Dulac
10:18
Some injuries have hurt that is come cases (Fauntanu) and expedited it in others (Frazier for Herbig).
Gheorghe Muresan
10:19
I'm always hearing that the Steelers are the best at drafting wrs.  If that's the case then why are they relying on other teams castoffs to fill depth?  Van Jefferson, Watkins, Scotty Miller and maybe Aiyuk. Why not just load up that position through the draft if you're the best at it.  That should be your strongest position if that's your draft strength, not the weakest.
Gerry Dulac
10:19
You mean like Green Bay, which carries 8 wide receivers on their roster?
Goodspeed
10:20
With TA's recent comments about the NCB position, might we see a late preseason 'position for position' trade for a NCB? We've done this in years past and seems logical to do it again before cutdowns. We have a surplus of fringe DL type or  if we dont envision Mark Robinson making the roster, we could flip him as well...

Also, is Connor Heyward a lock for the roster? Or could that be a surprise cut?
Gerry Dulac
10:20
I don't think you will see a trade, but i think you could see a pickup after roster cutdowns. They're not going to make a trade when they know they have Cam Sutton for the second half of the season.

Steelers don’t negotiate any during the regular season, while also waiting for SanFran WR1 to make a decision, how many perturbed players do will have because there contract/situation got back burnered?
