OK, kids, we're going to get started in a just a few minutes so get those questions ready.

OK, let's get started...Go!!

Jerry, Tampa Bay has a suplus of decent-to-good TEs and will have to cut one before regular season starts. What are chances Steelers will make a move to acquire whoever is cut?
Gerry Dulac
12:48
Yes they do and I expect the Steelers to make a move to acquire a tight end, maybe not from them, but somewhere. As for Tampa Bay, the other plus would be that Bruce Arians' system there is similar to what is run here so a transition might not be as difficult. Stay tuned

Good day sir.  What options if any do the Steelers have if they want to hang on to “ Ducks “ ? Yes  , it’s only preseason but I admire they way he gets the ball out and that will only improve.
Gerry Dulac
12:50
So do I, but what we don't know if how he would fare against front-line competition. And I doubt he's going to get that chance. I would be surprised if he made the tea, but, after Landry Jones was cut last season, nothing would surprise me.

How do you think Ray Sherman will do this year coaching the WRs?
Gerry Dulac
12:50
He's a guy who's done it before so that's a plus

If ( when ) the Steelers acquire a TE2 would they likely drop Grimble or Gentry? Would the that person go to the practice squad or just move on?
Gerry Dulac
12:51
Good question. They are reluctant to cut draft choices above the sixth round unless they show no signs of anything. Grimble isn't bad, he's just not a solid No. 2. Gentry would be a good practice squad fit.

Do you  feel like Rudolf’s ceiling is a solid backup we, or does he have the potential to be a starter?
Gerry Dulac
12:52
I think he has the potential to be a starter, especially after seeing him from the first year to now. But you may never know the answer to that question if Ben stays healthy.

Hi Gerry! Thanks for the chats! Any chance the Steelers can trade for a TE2 from their WR depth- or do they just wait for teams to make their cuts. Also, how hard is it to teach a TE to block? As a fan it seems that catching the ball is the harder skill to acquire but then again, I’ve never tried blocking a DB.
Gerry Dulac
12:55
I would imagine teaching a tight end to block is more difficult because it also requires what Chuck Noll used to call the want-to. You have to want to be able to block. Then again, I'm not sure you can teach a guy how to catch a ball. Either you can or you can't, though I will tell you the Steelers believe they can improve a player's catching skills.

Love the chats Gerry. Who do you think will be the WR's after final cuts? Thank you.
Gerry Dulac
12:55
19-11-13-18-10 and either 80, 82 or 17

Gerry love your chats and comments each week. I really enjoyed your take on Pitt releasing Landry Jones and how he may have helped us
Gerry Dulac
12:56
He would have in Oakland, I believe
Ron
12:58
who had the higher ceiling, Josh Dobbs or Devlin Hodges, and would they make a decision based on the answer to that question or go more conservatively with the number 3 choice?
Gerry Dulac
12:58
I think they will base their decision on which player they believe would give them the best chance to win if they had to appear in a game.

I’ve heard some good things about Sutton in the secondary, loved him coming out of college, just wondering if you think he stands a chance to replace Hilton’s role with Hilton becoming more of a backup utility type of DB.
Gerry Dulac
12:58
I agree, but I still need to see a little more, and I think they do too. I think he would be better in coverage than 28, and I think they think that too.

Does Markus Allen make the 53?
Gerry Dulac
12:59
Good question. Not sure. I think so because I don't see him being pushed. But I'm not running to the casino with that bet

Saw Ed's report that Hargrave is not likely to be extended, is that consistent with what you're hearing at this point?
Gerry Dulac
1:01
It may not happen before the season but that doesn't mean they don't want him. In fact, quite the contrary. I think his future will be based on what Stephon Tuitt does this year. Tuitt is one of the highest paid D-linemen in the league and he needs to start playing like it.

The common line I hear about keeping Chickilo, Dirty Red and a few others is because of their special teams play.  However, hasn't our ST been a bit of an achilles heel the past several years?  Getting the rookies-2nd yr guys (Ola, Skipper, Buggs) on there couldn't hurt, could it?
Gerry Dulac

The ones you mentioned are pretty good special teams players. Have you checked how many blocks and trick plays that have worked the past couple years? It's been pretty darn good.

Does Dangerfield overtake Marcus Allen for the 53?

From your perspective, is the team comfortable with Grimble as TE2?
Gerry Dulac
1:03
I think they feel they can win w him, if necessary. He is more athletic than Jesse James, but not nearly as reliable

Hey Gerry, love the chats thanks for the time.  The D seems heaps faster but seemingly with smaller personnel.  Can we stop a power running game if we run up against Jax or if Belichek pulls out  his super bowl game plan?
Gerry Dulac
1:04
Jon, that's what we're going to find out. Mike Tomlin believes the game is played with speed and finesse, not size and power, and if you look around he is right

Does Cam Sutton have a legit shot at the slot corner job?  Seems like he is having a strong preseason.
Gerry Dulac
1:04
Sure he does.

Hi, Gerry Thanks for doing the chat. Do you think that Mike Tomlin will have this team better prepared for the games they are suppose to win? I think that the AB distractions were greater than we thought and that this team will be more focused. What are your thoughts?
Gerry Dulac
1:06
Well, I think that's what we're going to find out. There are no more distractions. 84 and 26 are gone. They got a dynamic inside LB. They paid for a new starting corner. They got a legitimate hybrid safety/LB. No more excuses.

I have seen predictions from 7 and 9 to 11 and 4 for the Steelers this year, In my opinion you are the most expierenced of our reporters, What do you say about their record this year?
Gerry Dulac
1:09
I'll fall over if they are 7-9. This is a Super Bowl-caliber roster that was 9-6-1 last year. Most teams would love to be 9-6-1. But, here, the sky is falling with that record. Let's not lose sight of just how close they were last year. A horrible pass interference call on fourth down in the final minutes in New Orleans cost them a victory against the hottest team in the league in the toughest place to play. Otherwise, they are division champs and in the postseason. All I'm saying is they are basically the same team (84 is addition by subtraction) w a better defense. 11-4 is more likely than 7-9.
