OK kids, let's get the fun started....fire away

Hi Gerry, does camp darling Lee Nichols make the team this year?
Gerry Dulac
10:03
Not sure who thinks he is the camp darling but it's going to be very difficult. If it's not Kaleb Johnson, its likely going to Travis Homer because of special teams. But Nichols always looks good to me

Hi Gerry. The “flip” of the offensive line assignments is probably the right thing to do. However, in the short term, 4 of your guys are playing positions they have not played before for the Steelers.  What are your observations of how the OL line guys are adjusting to their new assignments in camp?
Gerry Dulac
10:05
They are not flip-flopping positions to see what's the best combination, they are doing it to see what position flexibility they have with their players. Their line will remain the same, pending Iheanachor's return/development.

How many WRs make the roster out of camp?
Gerry Dulac
10:07
Six -- DK, Pittman, Wilson, Bernard, Skowronek and Wetjan, who is the returner

Who starts at RT Opening Day?
Gerry Dulac
10:08
Right now it's Dylan Cook. I think the injury has slowed Iheanachor's progress. But it's only a matter of time

This must be the most exciting preseason for me personally in over a decade.  I feel so much better about our new coaching staff, our leadership (Khan/Weidl), our depth, QB room and future.  The national media are sleeping on us and really believe we will turn heads this season.  Do you share my opinion?  Hope you and the rest of the media enjoyed another few weeks in Latrobe!!
Gerry Dulac
10:09
I might share most of your opinion, but I'm not sure I can come close to matching that unbridled enthusiasm

Good morning Gerry. There’s a narrative floating around that the Steelers may not value the CB position as much as others (OLB, DT, etc) because they haven’t gotten the JPJ extension done. But are we so sure that they haven’t made a more than fair offer to Porter and he won’t budge off his asking price? Excuse me for speculating, just seems odd to me that the Steelers wouldn’t offer him a fair deal given their issues at drafting that position all of these years. What do you think?
Gerry Dulac
10:11
I think most of this is about Porter and what he wants to do -- or what he thinks he's worth. Unless something has changed in the past few days, there has not been any significant discussion/movement toward getting a deal done.

News reports say John Rahm is coming back to the PGA tour in 2027. Do you think the penalties for returning LIV guys is too much, too little or just about right?
Gerry Dulac
10:11
Too much but I get it

10:12
When the regular season begins, will you miss Tomlin Tuesdays? Or will it be better to have McCarthy Monday’s? Away games may be the worst for that if you need to attend the oress
Gerry Dulac
10:12
After 19 years, no.
Sal
10:12
Happy Tuesday Gerry! If Allar and Howard keep having solid preseason games, do you see an scenario where Rudolph can be traed
Gerry Dulac
10:13
I learned a long time not to discount the possibility of anything, especially if someone comes knocking with a deal that is too hard to pass up. But, as of right now, that is not in their crosshairs at all

10:13
Hey Gerry. Will the new turf hold up all season or come December people will be complaining as usual?
Gerry Dulac
10:14
I think the point of having this new turf is 1) make it uniform as much as possible for all outdoor stadiums, 2) not having problems in December. But, don
10:15
Oops...But don't forget (which you might), they re-sod the field at least two times a year after the start of the season

Gerry. Thanks for all your hard work with these chats. My question is at this point in camp who is your surprise player to make the team and a surprise player to be possibly cut?
Gerry Dulac
10:16
Travis Homer could be the surprise player to make the team. Therefore, Kaleb Johnson would be the surprise player to be cut. Remember, I said COULD. We'll see

Hi Gerry, which player(s) do you think is a A) benefiting, and B) struggling the most from the coaching overhaul (schemes, philosophies, instructional techniques, etc.) Thanks!
Gerry Dulac
10:18
I'm not sure any are struggling with the change, and if they are it's not detectable. There's no questions the QBs have benefitted the most from having McCarthy around. Probably the receivers, too.

10:19
Biggest change noticed from your perspective inside the building compared to the Tomlin years?
Gerry Dulac
10:20
I'm not qualified to evaluate what happens inside the building because, unlike the old days, we're not inside the building anymore during the week. But the changes from Tomlin have been terribly evident on the field if you were able to attend practice at SVC. His approach, scheduling, philosophy is entirely different

Gerry, thank you for the insight and info you provide to us fans. Haven't seen anything yet on playing time for QB's for game 2. Do you think they would be better off having Howard play 1st and 2nd quarters and Allar 3rd and 4th and then switch order for final game? Seems like that would be more productive than giving some of their plays to Rudolph (or Rodgers - hope not). Thanks.
Gerry Dulac
10:22
Rodgers is not going to play, nor should he. McCarthy would only use him if DK and Pittman are healthy and they are not. My guess is you will see much the same rotation as last week, though MM hasn't said what he will do.
Rocky Mtn Steeler
10:22
Good morning Gerry.  My question is about DK and Pittman.  Are they doing anything during practices?  Drills?  Any activities?  Do they work with the QB's on passing drills?  Obviously they're not playing in games but I'm trying to understand how injured they are and whether this is something which could affect the beginning of the season.
Gerry Dulac
10:23
Not to worry, Rocky Mountain. They will be fine. They really don't need all that training camp work and preseason games anyway.
Fletch
10:23
Hi Gerry. Where does B. Jones stand after camp and 1 preseason game with the coaches? Is he currently leading the pack to start at RT? Will he likely end up as swing tackle? Do you see him getting traded if someone has a need?  Thanks.
Gerry Dulac
10:26
Right now he is the swing tackle because he can play both sides. He might be third in line at RT because of Cook and Iheanachor, once the No. 1 pick returns. For now, a trade is not in their plans, but, again, anything is possible these days in the NFL
Lebowski
10:26
Let’s talk quarterbacks. Is it likely the Steelers keep all four on the roster when the cut is 53? If not, who is the odd man out? I assume the Steelers would at least consider taking a draft pick for one of them. Which is most likely to be traded if an offer is made? How high a pick could reasonably be offered?
Gerry Dulac
10:27
To your point, the only QB who would fetch anything in a trade is Rudolph. Howard wouldn't, and Allar isn't getting cut or traded. They probably wouldn't get anything more than a sixth for Rudolph
Fred
10:27
Good morning from Prescott AZ Gerry!  Do you think the injuries to Ramsey, Pittman & DJ are more severe than being communicated?  I know MM is holding them close to the vest, but valuable practice and timing opportunities with Aaron are being missed.
Gerry Dulac
10:29
Ramsey possibly, only because he remains on the PUP list. But Pittman and DK will be fine. MM is not being secretive; it's just that coaches aren't required to list the nature of injuries in the preseason, so why should they.
Delaplane
10:29
Given the college production, what exactly does it look like to you that Johnson isn't doing? And do you think they'll cut bait?
Gerry Dulac
10:29
What he's not doing is showing whatever he has in a game. He has not taken advantage of any chance he has been given in a game
