OK, kids, let's get started....

Hi Gerry...you should have a blog or do a weekly article called Gerrymandering...or Gerrymeandering. You're welcome.

I hate to tell you, years ago, when I was starting in the business and columns had names like that, it was suggested that be the name for my column.

Gerry, I'm so bored with no NFL preseason, no NBA, no MLB! When will sports be back!
Gerry Dulac
10:58
Well, they are back, just not the way we would like to see them played.

Hi Gerry, love the work that you do!!!  What do you think is holding back Lynch from getting the backup QB?  Physically looks good, is it in his head?
Gerry Dulac
11:00
I'm not sure. When you watch him throw in practice, you understand why he was a No. 1 pick. He checks all the boxes, as people like to say. But I don't know if he has problems figuring out what he's looking at or if his mechanics break down when he has to move in the pocket. For some reason, those really tall QBs have a tough time making it in the NFL and I think part of it is they are all arms and legs when it comes to throwing and moving.

Have you been allowed in the reporter pool that gets to watch camp? And what is the reason that the Steelers get to review your reports first? So no one reports any trick plays?
Gerry Dulac
11:02
Reporters do not get to watch practice until Monday, which is the first padded practice. Any responsible reporter already knows the protocol for practices that are closed to the fans -- and that is we don't report on trick plays, formations, etc.

Love following Koepka with the Dick Groat/Champions Lake connection. But don't you think he's coming off like Patrick Reed or something with his comments about DJ and Rory?
Gerry Dulac
11:03
Yes he is, and he is becoming borderline unlikeable.

I have this nagging fear that with the new coach, the Browns may have it figured out and with all that talent, they could be a force instead of the farce they've been. You?
Gerry Dulac
11:03
I would need to see it before I would even remotely begin to get concerned about it.

Are you ready for NFL football Thursday night, Friday night, Saturday, Sunday, Monday night? Do you think they'll adjust the schedule this way? They could stand to make even more TV money this year than normal.
Gerry Dulac
11:04
I think you can throw out Friday night. All the others are in play, if they aren't already

Good morning, Gerry, and thanks as always for the chats. I’m hoping you can clarify something for me concerning AB’s eight-game suspension. Assuming this season is played in full, does the suspension begin week one of this season, meaning he is eligible beginning week nine regardless of whether anyone has signed him? Or does the suspension not begin until he is signed by a team? Thanks.
Gerry Dulac
11:05
It begins once he is signed by another team. It will begin for his first eight games.

Come on Gerry, don't you miss the pre-season games?
Gerry Dulac
11:05
It's all part of the NFL normalcy, so yes I do.

With no crowd can we expect a lot of high scoring in the NFL this year?  I assume less false starts, easier to make audibles, and easier to run the no huddle.
Gerry Dulac
11:06
I don't know if we can predict what impact it will have. Has it had any impact on baseball, hockey or the NBA in that regard? I wouldn't think that it will, but who knows for sure.

Gerry, now that Samuals has come back from the reserve COVID list, isn't it becoming obvious that the issue of players contracting COVID is a bit overblown?  These healthy young players are returning in a couple of weeks or so, and if properly quarantined it seems to represent not much more than the equivalent of a minor injury as far as missed time.
Gerry Dulac
11:07
I would say you are correct. The concern is if a player would somehow spread the virus among his teammates.

11:09
Does it seem to you like we'll get a full season in this year? It doesn't seem like Goodell has taken this virus nearly seriously enough. I know that a bubble scenario wouldn't work for the NFL with rosters sizes and all, but they've been so late with creating protocols and I can't imagine this will end with a complete season. Thoughts?
Gerry Dulac
11:10
I don't think you can say Goodell hasn't taken this serious enough. I think he and the entire league has. I think the one thing they are doing is being fluid, adapting if they have to on the go, instead of unilaterally making a decision, either now or two months ago, that the season will be suspended or postponed. I know it seems like they are behind or being lax, but that's far from the case I think.

It seems as if every year there is a "camp surprise," a guy who comes out of nowhere to make the team.  With no preseason games, what are the chances of this happening this time around? Is there a player we might see rise up this year without a preseason?
Gerry Dulac
11:11
You might have to ask Tunch or Wolf. They like to play that game. If so, that player would be a true "camp" surprise because he'll never get to show it in a preseason game. The chances of any rookie, aside from Claypool, making any type of significant contribution this season are very unlikely with no OTAs, minicamps or preseason games.

Hey Gerry!  Your article on Coach Canada suggested presnap motion will be more part of Steelers offense.  Do you think this will be a staple >75%, gadget < 25% or somewhere in between?
Gerry Dulac
11:12
I can't put a percentage on it because I don't know. All I know is they want to do some different things to make them less predictable, and he is a big part of that.

What is the 3rd best course in our area, behind Oakmont and LV? Say Pittsburgh Field Club, cause I’ve played it. Or is it Fox Chapel?
Gerry Dulac
11:13
Fox Chapel or Allegheny. Toss up

Hi Gerry. Say Covid shortens the season to maybe 10 or so games. Do you think the NFL has contingency plans to turn the playoffs into a tournament, like after the 1982 strike season when the Chargers came into Three Rivers with Dan Fouts and beat the Steelers?
Gerry Dulac
11:13
I don't think so.

How do you think they will use the new Watt brother? Will will start using more 2 back sets with Watt leading the way? Any feedback on how he looks in camp so far?
Gerry Dulac
11:14
Too early to tell because they've had no contact to this point. But I wouldn't be surprised if there were a few more two-back sets, but nothing to the point where it will become a staple of the offense, not with the two tight ends and young receivers they have. That will be the focal point of the offense. But Watt will be a productive special teams player for them for sure.

Will they have Back on Backers Monday, and if so will any of the reporters be able to write about it?
Gerry Dulac
11:14
Yes and yes. That is the intention.

Do you agree with the big 10 in cancelling the season with no new reason as to why they are cancelling when other conferences are playing and B10 schools are allowing students on campus (and all that on campus housing money)
