The Steelers traditionally keep two QBs on their 53-man roster. Will this year be the exception?
Gerry Dulac
9:52
They traditionally keep 3 and this year will be no exception. There are one of the few teams in the league who keep 3.

Is george Pickens the real deal? Also do you think we have something in demarvin leal?
Gerry Dulac
9:53
I'll be surprised if he isn't the real deal. When veterans talk about a rookie the way these guys talk about Pickens, that's when you know the player can be special. Pickens can be special.

Green or Dotson?  and does the rest of the O Line look like it can move some people this year to get a yard on 3rd down?????
Gerry Dulac
9:54
It will be Kendrick Green. But I'm still not sold on the interior of the offensive line, based in what I've seen at camp. But I never make any final observations until I see them in a game.

Hey Gerry I’ve been blocked by you on Twitter for some time and I’m not sure why as we have never interacted before. If you wouldn’t mind unblocking me I’d appreciate it. I’m just a Steelers fan who enjoys your coverage. Twitter name is aft3rmatt. I apologize if I upset you but again we have never spoken.

Hello Gerry, How is the OL faring?  From Fittipaldo's chat yesterday, I gathered that there is some concern?
Gerry Dulac
9:59
It's too early to gauge the level of concern the Steelers might have, but I can tell you there is no level of excitement either, despite some of their offseason acquisitions.  But, as I said,  it's early, and with three players at new positions and a new OL coach, I'm willing to give it some time.

Gerry what is your assessment of defensive backfield to this point in the training camp?
Gerry Dulac
10:01
Hard to tell. Levi Wallace just returned to practice so cant really get a feel for what he can do to help them. It seems a little patchwork, to be sure, at cornerback

Is there still significant cap money available to sign any stud player if and when he might become available? Which position would be a priority?
Gerry Dulac
10:03
There won't be any "stud" player being signed. There might be a veteran before the start of the regular season, maybe an OLB or RB, but not anyone who is coming in to be a starter. Unless of course there is a significant injury.

Good morning Gerry. Am I in the majority of Steeler fans that are seeing how this transition from Ben to a new era .Cautiously optimistic. But I will say this. Ned to stop the run, and Matt Canada has no excuses this year. Thank you for taking my comments
Gerry Dulac
10:04
It's going to be different, that's for sure. Can already see it at camp. But you're right about Matt Canada -- no more excuses. I'll say this, what I have seen at camp from what he's trying to do I think is good. A lot revolving around the mobility of the quarterback.

Given Dotson's injuries keep coming, I assume you continue to believe Green is the LG this year. But is Dotson's roster spot at issue after three years of the same story?
Gerry Dulac
10:07
You say "believe" as though that is my opinion and not based in fact. Fact is, Dotson's inability to stay on the field has hindered him. But, Green is the more athletic of the two and that makes him a better and more viable fit for the type of offense Canada wants to run.

Good morning Gerry - thanks for the chat. Has there been any official confirmation that Teryl Austin as defensive coordinator will be calling the defensive signals on game day rather than continue to have the defenses called by Mike Tomlin as was the case when Keith Butler had the title of defensive coordinator?
Gerry Dulac
10:08
There has not and never will be an official confirmation who is calling the defensive signals. There wasn't when keith Butler was the D-coordinator. It only came to light when your favorite chat host pointed it up about 3-4 years ago.

Good morning, Gerry!  Any chance that the Steelers swap Bush for Raquan Smith in a change of scenery swap?  Thanks and keep up the good work!
Gerry Dulac
10:08
None.

Having just moved my kid into a college dorm this week, I'm wondering... At St. Vincent, do the players sleep on those standard-issue twin beds that are in most dorms? I would think that's pretty uncomfortable for the big guys.
Gerry Dulac
10:09
No. Most order bigger mattresses, along with TVs and what not, from a furniture company.

Good Morning!  Thanks for the chat...always enjoy reading them.  Where do you anticipate the Steelers finishing in the AFC North this season?  Do you think the record will be a result of the QB play or more of the defense?
Gerry Dulac
10:11
Probably a little of both. I don't agree with the people who think they will be lucky to win seven games. In fact, if I were a betting man, that 7.5 over/under on the win total in Vegas would get plenty of sheckles from me.

Good morning.  Sorry for the premature post.  As you look at the Dline what do you think the rotation will look like in terms of who and how many snaps will they get per game.
Gerry Dulac
10:14
Can't fully predict the rotation, but I think the top 3 will be Cam, Alualu and Larry Ogunjobi, and the top 3 rotated will be Chris Wormley, Isaiahh Loudermilk and Montravius Adams

With all the running backs they are bringing in is Harris’ injury worse than they are telling us?
Gerry Dulac
10:15
Not at all. They're looking for backups

Is there any scenario where Tomlin loses his job? What about 3 losing seasons in a row? I don’t think his body of work/skill matches his reputation. He has been buoyed  by Ben for years, and somehow he is viewed as an elite coach. We are about to see who he actually is!
Gerry Dulac
10:16
He hasn't had one losing season, let alone three in a row. But it's hard to defend his recent playoff record, especially because of the way they have been embarrassed in all three early exits -- allowing an average of 45 points per game. 45!!!

Hello Gerry, thanks for the chats. Really enjoy them. What does your gut tell you about what will happen to Mason, still too early, but do you think he will still be a steeler?
Gerry Dulac
10:19
I keep going back and forth on that one, waffling between things I am told but also knowing the Steelers penchant for wanting two NFL-ready QBs on their roster, if at all possible. There is no harm in keep Rudolph, unless they think Kenny Pickett is ready to be a No. 2. But, at some point, he will be the No. 1, maybe not this year, but it will eventually happen. Teams don't draft QBs on the first round to have them watch, unless they have Aaron Rodgers
Jerome
10:19
Gerry, do you think Pittsburgh media hypes up the Steelers players too much only to see them luster in play?
Gerry Dulac
10:20
I think too many are guilty of evaluating what players do in practice. Wait till they play a game against another opponent. That's what the coaches want to see. They know this is just practice, for gosh sakes.
Karen
10:21
Gerry, Tomlin talks a good game but his results are average. How long can this keep up before he’s made accountable?
Gerry Dulac
10:21
I think that's what we're going to find out. Did I mention they have given up an average of 45 points in their past three playoff failures
