OK kids, we're back and getting ready to go. Let's start in a few minutes because I might have to cut it off for Mike McCarthy's morning briefing with the media
9:50
OK, no sense waiting. Let's have at it...

Gerry. Who will be the 3 quarterbacks on the final roster?  Also will the 4th QB have an “injury “ landing on the injured reserve?
Gerry Dulac
9:51
Well, they're not cutting their third-round pick (Allar) and, unless he bombs in the preseason, they're not cutting Howard. I'm not convinced they will keep only three. I think there will be a decision that has nothing to do with 2026.

Good morning Gerry. I read your article about the Steelers really pleased with Will Howard. Which I agree. Yet I read all Steelers articles from different websites and some say the opposite. Are these reporters writing negative articles about Howard to prop up Allar?  I trust your reporting but other so-called Steeler insiders are all over the place. Thanks and welcome back.

I don't think anyone who matters is disappointed in Howard

Are we allowed to dislike Aaron Rodgers for his disgusting comments on the loud mouth Pat McAfee show?   Or must we always bleed black and gold no matter what?
Gerry Dulac
9:54
No, and that's the exact reason a lot of people have not exactly had warm and fuzzy feelings about him in the past
BPOS

You had mentioned in an earlier interview that don't think they have any intention of "not signing their best corner". As we say, it takes two to tango. Is there not a concern that Porter's people have unreasonable demands? Looking back at the complete lack of awareness Le'Veon Bell had in demanding such a ridiculous price. We all know how that turned out. Are we saying that's not a concern here?
Gerry Dulac
9:56
I don't think it's a concern because I believe they will get it done. But the Steelers are not going to sign him if there is a "ridiculous price," as you suggest. I don't think that will be the case.

How are the defenders adapting to the new DC? There were persistent communication breakdowns during the previous staff. At interviews Queen seemed to always censor himself from saying what he really thought of the Tomlin/Austin defense.
Gerry Dulac
9:57
We really won't know that until we see what happens in games. Right now, it's all about making sure the defense knows their assignments and working with each other.

Hi Gerry,  Why would Aaron Rodgers go off on Fauci that way? It seemed like a crazy man was talking. Is he really that unhinged?
Gerry Dulac
9:57
That's Aaron Rodgers.

Hi Gerry - thanks for the chats! With the Steelers’ goal to compete and win every season, I don’t see how Rudolph is not the QB2 going into the season. Do you think there is any chance Howard can displace him? I don’t. Thanks!
Gerry Dulac
9:58
If he does, it will be because he played SO WELL in the preseason they feel comfortable enough keeping him as No. 2. But I get your point and tend to lean that way myself

Gerry, is there  any indication at this early moment that Rodgers will have a few more seconds to throw the ball than he did last year b/c without that, there will be no run game and it will be a long season of short passes.
Gerry Dulac
9:59
I'll wait until I see something different from last season because, right now, I haven't.
BPOS
9:59
Staying with the Porter questions, which side is more inclined to wait to see how the rest of the CB market sets with the other top CB's working on contracts?  I'd think the Steelers would want to get ahead of this, lest it get out of control but it seems like they'd prefer to wait, but maybe it's Porters people that want to wait.

The Steelers have done extensions with players who were willing to do extensions. Up until the start of camp, they have had no serious discussions with Porter's people about a new deal. It's not even as though they reached an impasse b/c it's not reached that point.

i have a problem with Rodgers airing his diatribes while sitting in Steelers training camp. Am I missing something?
Gerry Dulac
10:01
No you are not

10:13
Do the Steelers need another veteran WR for insurance against injury?
Gerry Dulac
10:14
I think they'll worry about that if something happens. But, to answer your question, no. I like the way they have positioned themselves at WR with Pittman and Bernard.
Ryan
10:15
Gerry who will win the battle at guard I’m thinking Spencer Anderson
Gerry Dulac
10:15
Probably. I think Dunker down the road, though.
Peter
10:15
Can we talk about this free safety situation? Could another move still be coming (potentially a trade) even after the signing of Jenkins?
Gerry Dulac
10:17
You never know. That will be determined at the end of the preseason, in all likelihood, when they start evaluating their final roster. But I think the Steelers have done a really good job of building their roster.

What is wrong with people criticizing Rodgers? He spoke out like a true hero. Fauci is a criminal who needs to be in jail. He profited while so many families and businesses suffered. C‘Mon people. Steelers Nation do better!
Gerry Dulac
10:20
Oh, OK
Peter
10:22
A lot of talk about Baker Mayfield in 2027 being a free agent. Could the Steelers have interest?
Gerry Dulac
10:22
I think their plan for 2027 and beyond is to be done with signing these veteran free-agent QBs. So, no.
Peter
10:23
Will this "injury" continue to linger for Porter until he gets a deal? Or will he be open to getting healthy and playing without an extension? Is the franchise tag in play for 2027?
Gerry Dulac
10:25
His injury is nothing serious and I guess it's possible a new deal could coincide with his recovery. But I don't think the Steelers have any intention of not signing him, even though we will see how that plays out.

How is Max and Gunnar looking on the OL?
Gerry Dulac
10:26
Max looked really good in drills Monday.

Good Morning Gerry,
Despite AR more than likely costing us a 3rd super bowl ring, I'm excited for the season and the changes.  My question is, would be with the chatter about Wilson, do you think he is going to be wr #3 or do you think Bernard is going to overtake him in depth?
Gerry Dulac
10:26
I like Bernard, more importantly, so do they, and I think he will eventually be the third WR

Years ago, the Steelers gave AB84 an extension instead of passing it along to Mike Wallace... This is a completely different situation because they are different positions, but could Pittsburgh attempt to extend Benton with Porter talks not going very far?
Gerry Dulac
10:28
Benton was one of the five players the Steelers wanted to extend before the season and that's still the case. And he could get a deal before Porter.
