Ok kids, let's get our chat started....Fire away

Gerry, I grew up reading you. Keep up the good work. Question: if Juju gets cut this weekend, do you think the Steelers would be interested in signing him?
Gerry Dulac
9:57
Thanx. Let me say this, it wouldn't surprise me
Sara Jay

Mr Dulac. Let me squeeze in a hypothetical for you today. 1 year extension for Cam Heyward. $16 million for 2025. Who says no? Cam or the Steelers?
Gerry Dulac

If the Steelers sign Fields to a contract extension before the year starts, wouldn’t that make Russell Wilson a lame duck starter? Why would he or the Steelers want that?
Gerry Dulac
9:59
True. It's going to be a bit of a ticklish situation. The intention, as I've stated before, is that the Steelers and Wilson agree to another deal after the season. I don't imagine, though, that Fields was brought in to be a one-year rental.

Gerry, several media members have reported how much the players love the Arthur Smith offense because it does not have "tells" like Canada's did. As a defensive minded HC shouldn't MT have realized how easy that offense was to defend?
Gerry Dulac
10:00
You raise a very good point

How does the coaching staff see TE Rodney Williams? How do you see him? We don’t hear his name this offseason even with all the Arthur Smith TE talk. Size energy special teams all positives.
Gerry Dulac
10:01
I think they see him as a decent backup who can step in if he has to, nothing more
Careful what you wish for
10:02
Gerry, do all the people who desperately want the Steelers to bring in a #1 wr realize how our current diva would react to that?  Spoiler alert, not well!
Gerry Dulac
10:03
Perhaps, but I don't think they worried how Kenny Pickett would react when they brought in Russell Wilson. And we saw how that played out.

10:03
What are odds that the Steelers start Fautanu at LT ?
Gerry Dulac
10:03
Not as good as RT
Kevin
10:04
With most colleges running a 4-3, how do the Steelers scout the d line and determine which players will fit in their system?
Gerry Dulac
10:04
Very carefully

If the Steelers are harboring any thought of going with the WRs they have, consider what will happen if Pickens gets hurt. THAT will be ugly. And that is why we need a experienced, solid No. 2. Does the passing game survive without Pickens?
Gerry Dulac
10:04
You are worrisome but very correct, daddy-o

Do you see any situations for QB Justin Fields on goal line or even forth down and a yard plays?  He's a threat to run or pass and should be great on sneaks. why not?
Gerry Dulac
10:05
I'm not saying that's bad idea. In fact, it's probably a good one. I just know Mike Tomlin is not a big fan of taking his starting QB out of the game for a couple gadget-type plays

Biggest depth concern: WR, CB, or DL?
Gerry Dulac
10:07
D-line. They better spend the next two years devoting their attention to the D-line the way they have the offensive line the past two years

Why is it that steelers gm don't have the say like other gms in the league
Gerry Dulac
10:07
Have a say in what...??

If they pull of a trade for Aiyuk, they would have to pay him 25 million at least to keep him, wouldn’t that signal to Pickens that they aren’t going have the money to pay him as well?  Makes no sense to me until they see what they have in Roman Wilson or the other castoffs. Your thoughts?
Gerry Dulac
10:10
I think they know what they have in the other "castoffs." They are just complementary players. But they are eager to see what Roman Wilson can be.

Hi Gerry:  Thanks for the chats. The Steeler needs for a WR2, slot CB and DL help are still in the air almost daily.  Do you think there are starter quality players the front office has their eyes on that are just waiting to be cut after June 1 for the current teams to save on cap charges?  Is the lack of movement now just Khan being prudent, getting ready to pounce after June 1?
Gerry Dulac
10:11
It's no different than any other year -- they see where they might be deficient, who might become available and decide if those available players are better than what they have. But those decisions typically don't come till at least training camp

Do you know what it was about Kenny Pickett that caused the Steelers to push him down the depth chart and bring in Russell Wilson for the “pole position?” Was it a general assessment that KP didn’t have any more potential, simply the low TD passes for two years, impatience and urgency for the playoffs, combination, or something else?
Gerry Dulac
10:12
I think it was all those things Bill in LA
Andrew from Johnstown
10:12
Hey Gerry! A lot of talk that JuJu could get cut by June 1st in New England. If that happens, do you see a reunion happening in Pittsburgh? Thanks!
Gerry Dulac
10:12
I wouldn't be opposed to it. I have changed my mind about JuJu

10:12
Hi Gerry, am I overly worried to be concerned about the lack of a #2 WR at this point? If this is a "win now" season, the Steelers can't go into the opener with the current WR room, right?
Gerry Dulac
10:13
Well, they can. That's what we're going to find out -- and what they're going to find out, as well.
Bill in LA
10:14
Given his stong skill set and long term starter potential at only age 25, do you think the Steelers will be able to resist starting Justin Fields this year at some point to see how he operates in Arthur Smith’s offence, just so they can see what they have in him?
Gerry Dulac
10:15
I think the only way Fields will start a game is if Wilson plays poorly or gets injured. I don't think they will start him and use him as a trial balloon just to see what they have

Hi Gerry - I see Donte Jackson as a bit like Steven Nelson. Not a superstar but a very good veteran. Nelson wasn't paired with anyone very good. Jackson with JPJ could be the strongest CB pair the Steelers have had in a while. What is your take on Jackson?
Gerry Dulac
10:16
Yeah, Steve Nelson is a good comparison, though I think they had a higher opinion of Nelson at the time. And I think I would hold off on that "strongest CB pair" for a bit
RAM

Gerry, my family and I have been going to the Steelers home opener for years and have not seen them win one yet.( I know they won the one in Covid season with no fans in the stands). Do you think this new offense will gel enough during the first two games to possibly win this one?
