OK kids, we'll get started in just a few minutes. I'm at the NFL's spring owners meetings in Nashville and our chat might get cut a little short because of a special announcement that is anticipated this morning.
9:50
Oh, what the heck, let's start....

Art Rooney indicated he was not pleased with how the 2024 schedule sets up.  Does the league office ever adjust the proposed schedule in response to owners’ complaints and, if so, are you aware if AJR II asked for changes on scheduling no home game until week 3, three home night games that are disliked by season ticket holders, and a 1 pm home kickoff on Christmas Day?
Gerry Dulac
9:52
No, the league does not. It's kind of like, Oh, well, too bad. Sometimes the league will ask for a special favor to schedule a holiday game, but, on the whole, once the schedule is out, that's it

What are the chances that Cam holds out (or holds in) at training camp?
Gerry Dulac
9:52
Very little

I believe the fact that Russell Wilson is 36 years old, and has been jettisoned by two teams in recent years, are all red flags. Why do the Steelers, and you as well, not seem to have any concerns with these red flags, and act as though Wilson just won a Super bowl last year (it was 11 years ago) ?
Gerry Dulac
9:53
I don't get concerned about too much Bill in LA. I prefer to give it a chance first. Wilson threw 26 TDs with only 8 interceptions last season. You know how many teams would take that from their QB? The Steelers old QB threw 13 TDs in two seasons.

Given the signings of Patrick Queen and the draft pick Wilson at linebacker, to what extent do the Steelers have to “be nice” to Cole Holbomb and absord his salary in 2024 even if he’s not going to realistically play or contribute? If they cut him to save his salary, are they “being mean”?
Gerry Dulac
9:54
It's a tough business.

Why did Presley Harvin get released after year 3 of his contract? His first two years were inconsistent, and he was brought back each time. Inconsistent was the standard, and Harvin delivered again in his third year. So why cut Harvin after 3 seasons when he delivered had what the Steelers were happy with in his first two seasons?
Gerry Dulac

I guess they were like Popeye -- they had all they could stands and they couldn't stands no more.

Who do you think has the most leverage in Cam’s contract situation? Cam is under contract  and near the end of his career coming off a poor year related to injury. On the other hand, the Steelers are thin on the DL and don’t have a good replacement.
Gerry Dulac
9:55
The team usually has all the leverage, especially when it comes to the Steelers. Their history has shown that

What does Fields have to show to overcome RW?
Gerry Dulac
9:56
I think it will have to be more about what Russell Wilson doesn't show that will benefit Fields.
SteelerJax
9:56
How much of a real competition will we have at the quarterback position this year?
Gerry Dulac
9:57
You mean, like the real QB competition of 2022?
SteelerJax
9:57
Is Cam overplaying his had and why would you draw more attention this late in his career and with the recent injury prone year?
Gerry Dulac
9:58
Especially when the team apparently is going to honor the final year of his contract and pay him what he is owed -- $16 million in 2024

Gerry, will this Steelers team win a playoff game this year?
Gerry Dulac
9:58
Ya know, I think so. Just don't hold me to it

Hi Gerry:  Thanks for the chats.  With the Steelers having the lowest amount of $$ on QBs, and the Front Office repeating they are all in in 2024, wouldn’t you think they are still planning for a big trade and free agent signing…..WR, or CB, or DL…not addressed in the draft?
Gerry Dulac
9:59
No more big free-agent signings. Those are done. And I don't think they are planning on anything. But, if there is a significant injury before the season, that could change their mind about what they do

What is your prediction on the O line and who starts when?  If Frazier doesn't start Day 1 they're going to have to play Herbig or Anderson - not ideal and bad for continuity.  Meanwhile the tackles...Good problem to have after this line has rebuilt its depth but curious to hear how you think it will evolve.
Gerry Dulac
10:00
Yes, the plan is for Frazier to start immediately, unless he shows something they don't expect. And, that's right -- a good problem to have: When to insert your No. 1 pick?
StillneedaSlotCB
10:00
  1. Cam Sutton, 2. Patrick Peterson, 3. Chandon Sullivan, 4. some other free agent, 5. player currently on the roster. Please rank these five options as to who will most likely be the Slot CB Week 1.
Gerry Dulac

I choose door No. 1

Gerry, now that Fields is available to the press, have you had a chance to interview him? If so, what’s your early thoughts on him? How’s his attitude?
Gerry Dulac
10:01
I have not. He was available for the first time yesterday and I am in Nashville for owners meetings

Gerry, thanks for the chats.  This off-season seems very un-Steelers like with regard to the QB position.  They signed a castoff aging vet on the downside of his career in hopes of getting MT another winning season and possibly one playoff win.  And another former first rounder for MT to try and fix but has had zero success in doing so as the past has demonstrated.  This seems to parallel the Matt Canada experiment where MT thought he could make it work but failed.  If both Wilson and Fields fail to produce the results ARII wants, does he keep MT or finally decide that a HC change is necessary?
Gerry Dulac
10:03
I really don't think they will be looking for a new head coach next year if things don't turn out they way they hope.

Good Morning Gerry and thanks for your Time...One QB say's "I'm definitely competing"..  Another pouts and runs away..   Although Wilson is in pole position.. Your thoughts on ...Fields is QB #1 at some point this season?  this surely falls into Coach T's famous Volunteers VS Hostages catagory. Cheers
Gerry Dulac
10:04
That will depend on how well Wilson plays this season. Let's not forget, Fields won 10 games in three years in Chicago. That's hard to do

Gerry, how is Cory Trice moving around out there?  Does he look fluid?
Gerry Dulac
10:05
Did not get a chance to see him yesterday. But I'm sure he's moving fine. He's had a looong time to recover

Gerry, Do you have the integrity to either defend your "report" on Cam, or acknowledge that you were wrong?
Gerry Dulac
10:05
You mean, that the Steelers are going to pay him what he is owed this and are not planning to ask him to take a pay cut??
SteelerJax

Looks like the second half is going to be brutal, no catching up late in the season this year. Seems like it is even more important the team start fast, how does that impact preparation and practices (preseason games and OTA/s)?
Gerry Dulac
10:07
None whatsoever. But, because of some new faces, some veteran newcomers might play a little more than usual in the preseason to get them comfortable with the system.
