Ok kids, coming to you a day later than usual because of a conflict, but I'm ready to go....fire away

Are you surprised the Steelers handed out #53 so quickly? Along those lines, what are your thoughts on Pouncey's HOF credentials?
Gerry Dulac
10:06
To a degree, but not shocked. Don't get me wrong, Pouncey was a great player, a great leader, and his resume speaks for itself.  But I don't think he will go down as a Steelers icon. I didn't think his number was untouchable. And I'm certainly not going to predict him as a Hall of Famer. For one, they already have two centers in the HOF -- the Dolphins are the only other team with two -- and there's only eight total anyway. Also, if he does get in, he will wait at least as long as Alan Faneca, who was probably more deserving. But you never who he might be up against in five, six, seven years

after seeing your golf picks i see you don't know much about golf either, so my question is if you choose to answer, why is ben so money hungry? he can't move, throw downfield but he still cashes checks<<<< why?

Just wanted everyone to see the types of questions I get that I don't use....

More important right now to GM Dulac - getting some OLB depth or some CB depth before the season starts?

I'll wait till training camp

Last week, you wrote in this chat that the Steelers would not pay TJ Watt $28MM to $30MM per year and it would $18MM to $20MM. Joey Bosa's deal carries a $27MM APY and Myles Garrett's is $25MM APY. Why would Watt take significantly less than those two? It can't be because Bosa and Garrett are technically defensive ends. Watt on the open market is going to command more than your estimate especially with the cap going up next year as we come out of the pandemic.

I'll inform the Steelers to start another savings account.

Good morning Gerry and thank you for taking my comment. Yes the Steelers have the toughest schedule on paper. But no one ones about what injuries will happen, etc. I must admit it is brutal at the end, but if the team can get off to a fast start, who knows? And if memory serves me correct, the last time they had the toughest schedule, they won the Super Bowl!
Gerry Dulac
10:10
Correct. That's why it's tough to predict. What happens if Baker Mayfield or Lamar Jackson or Patrick Mahomes have a significant injury. Teams who you think might be good could turn out to have problems if there are injuries. And teams who you don't think are good could turn around quickly and be very good.

I think last couple years have shown Ben can's stay healthy for a full season. Do you think the Steelers realistic "Super Bowl window" is closed due to this?
Gerry Dulac
10:11
Ben played every game last season at age 38

Are you happy with our OLB depth and experience going into this season?
Gerry Dulac
10:12
You can't have everything. I think they will see where they are at training camp and make decisions then. But it won't surprise me to see them add a veteran backup at OLB. Of course, they also think they have that already with Cassius Marsh.

Are you surprised so many media outlets are calling for the Steelers to sign another OLB, when they lived with Anthony Chickillo as a backup for several years.
Gerry Dulac
10:13
Not only lived with him, paid him $8 million to live with them.

I didn't thinks the Steelers had a chance this with Ben coming back, but with a running game with Harris leading the back field, I can see it happening.  But my question is, can Big Ben stick to the script and not pass for 5000 yds. Sometimes it think is just looking at the record book at this stage.
Gerry Dulac
10:15
Did it ever dawn on anyone who asks me about how much Ben throws that maybe he throws so much because he knows the Steelers CAN'T RUN THE FOOTBALL??? Why would you try to keep running when you have no true feature back, a line that is built to pass protect and a HOF QB and good receivers. It's not his fault. He's no dummy.

Why has everyone written off Mason Rudolph as Ben's successor? With only 9 starts, his performance is comparable to Josh Allen's first 9 starts. Don't we need a larger sample size?
Gerry Dulac
10:16
I guess because they want a succession plan the way Green Bay had with Brett Favre to Aaron Rodgers or Indy had with Peyton Manning to Andrew Luck.

Gerry - Matt Kuchar will finally get over the hump and win a major.  Even on a monster like Kiawah.  What say you?
Gerry Dulac
10:17
I say no.

Given the news that came out about how the Randy Fichtner Steelers offense struggled while Ben’a “backyard” offense did pretty well, don’t you think people are underestimating Ben?  He is older, but I believe with the right play calling and good coaching, he can still win a super bowl.  Agree?
Gerry Dulac
10:17
I don't disagree at all.

Good Morning Gerry, Love the chats.  If the Steelers are lacking depth in Safety, do you  think free agent Malik Hooker could be an inexpensive back-up to sign?  He is a former first round pick and also hails from New Castle.
Gerry Dulac
10:18
They like those former No. 1 picks. And they like those guys from Western Pennsylvania.

Hi Gerry…any word yet on why the Steelers chose the time they did to extend Tomlin’s contract?  It seems like Rooney never puts any real pressure on Tomlin to fix the problems. Year after year it’s the same issues—mediocre clock & time out management; bad at challenges; starting flat and unprepared,  I believe he’s gotten too comfortable, too complacent.  He shouldn’t be fired, but I’d like to see more heat put on him to button those things up.  Thoughts?
Gerry Dulac
10:21
I'm not going to argue. There's nothing wrong with holding off on giving the coach the longest contract he's received since he was first hired after another late-season collapse for the third year in row. The optics aren't very good. However, if you look at the season this way -- that the Steelers started 11-0 for the first time in franchise history and won the division with a 12-4 record -- you can see where a coach can be rewarded for his performance. I'm just saying.

Any idea when the official announcement about Training Camp will happen?
Gerry Dulac
10:22
It will probably be July 21 or 22, but still no official word about it being back at Saint Vincent College

Good morning Gerry. I really like what I’m hearing from/about Harris so far. He seems totally committed to football. Please tell me he’s not also an aspiring rapper.

All I can tell you is the guy looks impressive, even without pads

Steve Stricker, nicest guy on any tour and as respected as any player out there.  Presidents cup captain i get but ryder cup captain.  I thought main criteria was players resume w a major being first on the list ?  He does not have one while other players not chosen as captain do.  What do you think gerry?
Gerry Dulac
10:23
I was a little surprised as well.

I'm really excited about Freiermuth. Covid really messed up Penn States schedule last year and guys couldn't show out with a shortened season. He is a beast and has WAY better hands than Ebron.
Gerry Dulac
10:31
I think he's going to be a good addition. Great No. 2 tight end who will likely be the starter in 2022. And yes, his hands are much better than Ebron, who has 21 drops over the past three seasons. Steve Jones told me Freiermuth never dropped a pass in the red zone in three seasons at Penn State, and Freiermuth confirmed it.

Have you played The Ocean Course on Kiawah? I have twice, and both times the wind conditions made playing it very tough., including the putting. How do you see the course playing this week?
Gerry Dulac
10:33
Many many times. Played it one day when the caddies said it was top 5 all-time wind day. I think it will play at least as difficult as when Rory won by eight in 2012, and it ranked as the second toughest course on the PGA Tour that year.
