It’s obvious the run game needs to improve. Is the mixture of Oline up for it? Will Ben be willing to play like his early days and hand the ball off?
Gerry Dulac
10:50
That's what we're going to find out.

Hi Gerry.  Why doesn’t the Steelers ever sign younger FA who are trying to make a name for themselves to longer cheap contracts? If you can get a corner paid near the minimum and they become good, you can get them at a discount for a extra year or two. Cutting minimum salary should be a issue if they don’t work out
Gerry Dulac
10:53
It doesn't make any financial sense to sign an unproven free agent to a long-term contract. Any GM who would do that won't be a GM much longer.

Gerry,  I was just reading about the Steelers wanting to extend Watt which I totally agree with but my concern is 28 to 30 million per year for a defensive player seems like it will cripple the cap in the very near future.  Your thoughts please?
Gerry Dulac
10:57
The Steelers are not signing Watt to 28 or 30 million per year. His deal will be more in the 18-20 million a year range. And it's not just a defensive player; it's a player at the most important position on the defense. And maybe the best OLB in the league

Who starts next to bush?

Vince Williams

im worried about the secondary. Will they bring in a vet? I hear Steve Nelson is available
Gerry Dulac
10:57
Maybe as a backup.

Will training camp be open to the public this year?
Gerry Dulac
10:59
I haven't heard officially, but I'm sure it will be. It might be altered a little for the public, maybe no lining the fence for autographs and stuff like that. But it hasn't been announced yet

Hi Gerry.  Do you think the Steelers get Watt re-signed before week 1 at Bills?
Gerry Dulac
10:59
Yes

Which version of Big Ben do you think we'll see this year? Late season Ben or the 11-0 Ben? I'd think an improved running game will give us more of the 11-0 Ben
Gerry Dulac
11:00
That is the hope. Hey, every QB has an in-season slump. You judge the player on the totality of the season and he was 12-4 after all

Hi Gerry - the Steelers have time to to tinker with their roster over the summer.  That said, it seems dangerous not to have an experienced OLB for depth/injury.  They have brought in bodies at CB,/S and OL.  Having an untested 6th round draft pick as the core of your depth at the most important position on your defense seems like a huge risk.  Would you create more cap space to bring in a viable starter now while a few good options are available?  Roll the dice and pick up a body during cut downs?  Thanks
Gerry Dulac
11:02
They are not going to create cap space for a backup OLB unless there is a season-ending injury. And, to use your word "bodies," they do have a veteran "body" at backup OLB -- Cassius Marsh. But that's what training camp is for -- to see where you might need some help.

Gerry, keep hearing schematics and personnel... do you expect more snaps on offense for D. Watt?
Gerry Dulac
11:03
Not really. Today's NFL is not predicated on a FB playing a lot.
Joe
11:03
Hi Gerry - run blocking is like gang tackling - everyone must buy in.  That includes wide receivers, TE, and backs.  Should we be more optimistic given the physical potential of our big WR’s, new TE and full sized RB?
Gerry Dulac
11:03
Only if the scheme demands it.
Joe
11:04
Hi Gerry - would you consider extending Decastro to created real cap space or just see how he does this year so you can walk away free and clear after the season if he struggles again?
Gerry Dulac
11:05
I would extend him

Not so much a question...just an explanation as to why so many of us LOVE the schedule reveal and celebrate it!  My quest to see the Steelers play in every NFL city is winding down, the only city missing from my list on our schedule this year is Minneapolis.   So literally the minute I get word as to the date, I start booking flights!  Many times it turns into a major family vacation, and my 12 year old son is now also “marking off cities.”  After this year I will only be missing Seattle, Houston, Las Vegas, and San Francisco.
Gerry Dulac
11:07
I mark off the cities too, though I tend to do it byu stadiums. Obviously, I havent been to a game in Las Vegas yet. And I haven't been to the new stadium in Minnesota or Los Angeles, both of which I will do this year. But I have all the others covered.

Gerry, the Steelers picked up Roland Rivers who is a former QB from Slippery Rock University.  What do you think of him?
Gerry Dulac
11:09
Sorry, don't know a thing about him, other than the Steelers are doing what they always do every year -- inviting a couple local prospects to rookie camp and training camp as a goodwill gesture.

Maybe I'm missing something but what's the allure of the schedule release today?  We already know the opponents, does the "when" really matter?
Gerry Dulac
11:10
It does to some people, including me. For example, we already know they're opening at Buffalo. Going to Buffalo in September is a whole lot better than going to Buffalo in December.

Gerry Dulac

If Najee Harris had gone a pick or two earlier, do you think Etienne would have been the Steeler pick?
Gerry Dulac
