Hi Gerry.  Thanks for the chats!  With this upcoming draft class, there is a lot of talent on the defensive secondary.  The concern I think is that the top CB's may be gone when the Steelers pick in the 1st round.  If that scenario plays out, my hope is that they trade down a few picks and grab some additional picks in the early-mid rounds, especially since we don't have 5th or 6th round picks this year.  Thoughts on a trade down versus trading up?

You're right that the top three CBs could be gone by No. 17, which leads me to believe they might be more willing to trade up if they think they REALLY want a CB. However, it might be more of a case that if a top CB they really like isn't there, they are perfectly content to take a defensive lineman with the 17th pick. But, the ideal scenario would be CB at 17 and DE at 32.

I personally have really enjoyed this offseason. However I feel like our DB room has gotten worse. Losing sutton was big now it looks like Edmunds might not be resigned. I'm just wondering how import you veiw CB as a draft need, and what pick you feel we should use one on. I know we need MLB as well, but I think 17 should be a DB.

Cornerback is a priority draft need, not inside LB. A stud defensive end is right there with CB as a draft priority. Look, the Steelers would've liked to keep Sutton, but let's be real here -- Sutton is a nice player and a solid corner, but he is not a No. 1 corner. God bless him that he received $11 million annually on a three-year deal with the Lions, but he is not worth that. Obviously, the Steelers agreed because they didn't even come close to offering him that kind of money and they weren't going to chase after him. As for Edmunds, he wants to test the free agent market and the Steelers know that, but don't rule out the possibility of him returning if there are no buyers.

Hi Gerry, what are the odds of Edmonds coming back? any interest on the Steelers part.
Gerry Dulac

Will the Steelers coaching staff be willing to adapt their man/zone defensive schemes to accommodate Patrick Peterson or will they force him to adapt to their designs?
Gerry Dulac
10:05
They will use Peterson where he and his skill set fit best. They will not ask him to do something he can no longer do. You know, if you have red paint you paint the barn red.

How much input does Danny Smith have in roster construction? He's been getting fleeced in FA.
Gerry Dulac
10:06
He has input in this regard: If there are two players up for a final roster spot, even if they play different positions, Danny Smith gets to pick the player who is best on special teams.

Odds of Marcus Allen returning?

10:07
It seems as though we ask this every year and every year we are wrong

Gerry, is Cliff Stoudt still the best golfer the Steelers ever had? I remember when Lee Trevino watched him play once and he said Nicklaus would never have been able to beat him if he had Cliff's swing.
Gerry Dulac

No

Cole does not seem to be the long term answer at Center nor is Moore one they should bank on long term either. The front office should continue to upgrade the O line (more so via the draft) and not rest on the recent signings, right?
Gerry Dulac
10:08
I agree with the part you say about the draft, but only if you can get a stud left tackle

Can you identify/ summarize what players we have now based on the cap savings from Ben’s retirement? It always seemed the commentary was that the Steelers would be able to spend big time with the extra cap space.
Gerry Dulac
10:10
Getting Ben off the books was not a tremendous cap savings. He did not impact the salary cap the way these other QBs are handcuffing their teams. And that's because the Steelers structured and restructured their contracts wisely and responsibly. Ben cost the Steelers $10 million in dead money last year. Compare that to Matt Ryan, who cost the Falcons $41 million in dead money in 2022 despite playing for the Colts.

I guess by this late date they will  not be making any additions to the coaching staff to expand Canada’s plodding offense?

I like the physical movement trend of the franchise.. you will disagree, but I think they should take the Center from Minnesota at 32… Can they get him at 49?
Gerry Dulac
10:12
I like JM-Schmitz. Of all the top OL in the draft, he might be the one who can and will step in and play immediately. I wouldn't argue with him at 32. At 49 he's a steal

Good Morning Mr. Dulac!  Any word on the street or from Mason's camp on teams kicking the tires on him?  It's been kind of quiet on that front.  Thank You
Gerry Dulac
10:12
That should tell you there is a not a lot of interest right now. Let's face it, it's been quiet overall on the FA front.

With OL signings and bringing back Larry for the Dline but also bringing in a 32yo Pat Peterson do you think theyre looking at CB early?
Gerry Dulac
10:13
Patrick Peterson signing will have no impact on what they do at CB in the draft.

Gerry, any intel coming your way about a possible offensive analyst to work with the OC?
Gerry Dulac
10:13
None, sorry to say

Are you surprised that Edmunds hasnt signed anywehere yet? I know it was closer to the draft last year when he signed but I thought he played really well last year and figured hed get signed already.
Gerry Dulac
10:14
I'm with ya there, but it was three days before the draft when he signed last year. But, to your question, no, I'm not surprised.

What do you think the plan is at Safety? Minkah and Kazee?  maybe move Norwood? sign edmunds?
Gerry Dulac
10:15
I don't need to think. The Steelers stated their plan when they signed Kazee. He will backup Minkah
Adam T
10:15
Hi Gerry, Damontae Kazee's extension hasn't been officially announced, nor has it been listed on the Steelers transaction page. Any reason for the delay, or did I miss something?
Gerry Dulac
10:15
Not sure what that is. I'll check

Has Mason Rudolph had any interest from NFL teams? Or is it looking like he's going to the XFL ike Landry Jones?
Gerry Dulac
10:16
I'm sure he has, but I don't know that for certain. He's better than a lot of No. 2 NFL QBs, I can tell you that.

Morning Gerry. Let’s assume we pick either CB/OT with pick 17 and Bresee slides. Do you see trading back into round 1 to get Breese (or another player they like) with second pick? Also your thoughts on Breese?
Gerry Dulac
10:18
My thoughts are what the Steelers thoughts are about Bresee -- he's a young stud. And I don't think he will last till 32, that's for sure. I think several options are on the board when it comes to selecting a top CB or top DL, and that includes trading up and trading down.
