I know that NFL player fines go to a charity, but where happens to the money from the player’s lost salary? Thanks Jerry
Gerry Dulac
10:49
It's money the team doesn't have to pay.

Many have suggested picking a lineman.  On SNR Dale and Matt made a great point that with so many teams in need of lineman that the group will be picked over by the Steelers pick in round 2.  Do you agree and think then that a skill position is probably a better upside in round 2 at least?
Gerry Dulac
10:50
It doesn't matter if they will be picked over or not. You will see a skill player get selected with their first pick, barring something unexpected.

Hi Gary  We are probably foing to receive a 3rd round comp pick for Bell  With Artie Burns & Sean Davis leaving, how doea the nfl determine the round that a team receives on comp picks   Is it the round that they were selected or performance on the field?  Would be nice to get high comp picks if Steelers dont sign FA in 2021
Gerry Dulac

It is based on the number of players versus the number of players gained in a given yer, with much weight placed on the quality of the player lost and the size of his contract. The Steelers are not receiving a third-round pick just because of Le'Veon Bell, but Bell's status and contract are a big part of the equation.

Will they continue to use the current roster of running backs on the team or will they draft one to be their primary back
Gerry Dulac
10:54
That's what we find out. The Steelers think James Conner proved he can be a No. 1 running back in 2018, but he is oft-injured and becoming less and less dependable. That's why I think they need to draft a top RB, not just a RB, to be their primary back.

Gerry Do you think Bud’s Tag Would be money good spent after one very good year out of five? Wouldn’t be better spending that on a TE and/or OL  or a not to expensive good OLB? Playing opposite of TJ makes things easier for anybody, just trying to see things objectIvely.. why say U thanks..
Gerry Dulac
10:56
Yes, because the defense finally has all the pieces in place after what we saw the second half of the season and the Steelers don't want to all of a sudden disrupt that by letting go of a player at the most important position on the defense, no matter the asking price.

Hi Gerry.  I have heard seen the PFF ratings and stats for Bud Dupree and they dont seem to think he had a great year.  I think that is BS.  Did dupree not have a great year?  Additionally was he really that bad in prev years.  I think people want to judge outside linebackers just by sack numbers and thats not fair because they do much more  Dupree was not in coverge this year as much as the past, and hes always been a decent run stuffer.  Am I nuts?
Gerry Dulac
10:56
No you are not. And the Steelers would agree with your assessment.

TE and RB are clearly areas of need. If faced with the choice of a drafting a safe RB like Taylor or Dobbins or a boom or bust pick TE like Trautman or Kmet which way do the Steelers go?
Gerry Dulac
10:58
It will depend what kind of grade they have on each of those players. The one with the highest grade is the one they would select. But let me also point up that the Steelers are likely to address one of those positions in free agency, maybe tight end, eliminating the need to address both in the draft.

With all of the Myles Garrett, Mason Rudolph racial slur conversation; just looking at the picture, DeCastro was between MR and MG and the Ref had his hand on his shoulder.  Yet no one heard MR say it?  Seems to me someone would have heard him.
Gerry Dulac
11:02
Bingo!! And, if Mason Rudolph said what Garrett alleges he said, don't you think he would told DeCastro or Pouncey, "Hey, your guy just called me bleepity-bleep." Myles Garrett, it appears, fabricated a story in what he thought was a private meeting with NFL officials, hoping to lessen his punishment and offer a defense. Once his claim became public, which he didn't expect, he has been unable to run away from it. And he continues to embellish what most believe to be a malicious lie.

Do we trade up into first round for an OL if he is gooD enough
Gerry Dulac
11:02
No

For example: Keep Bud or keep finney, Hargrave and even some cash Gerry?
Gerry Dulac
11:03
Keep Bud and Finney, who is a good two-position backup. I'm afraid Hargrave will get an offer in FA.

Hey Gerry.... Who is our receivers coach??? Is it Ike Hilliard or that dude from the College ranks that i read about a few weeks ago??? I've seen different reports. Please clear this up...
Gerry Dulac
11:04
Ike Hilliard was hired as the receivers coach. It was a bogus report out of SC two weeks ago that Bryan McClendon was expected to be hired, which was never true.

Would you kick the tires on Melvin Gordon if the price is right or roll with who we have and maybe draft one???
Gerry Dulac
11:04
I would definitely kick the tires on Melvin Gordon!

Why are people saying that we need a running back Benny Snell did a great job for a rookie and no offense?
Gerry Dulac
11:05
Benny Snell did go a nice job but I don't think the Steelers believe he is a No. 1 every-down back. But he is very good complement to whoever they have.

Is it unreasonalbe to think the Steelers should not tie up long term $ with Dupree, that they can get someone on the market, same age/experience, possibly less ability, but much cheaper?  Scares me that Dupree put it ALL together in his contract year!
Gerry Dulac
11:06
They are not going to tie up Dupree with long-term money. That's why they are expected to put the franchise tag on him. The long-term money will go to T.J. Watt next season, if not sooner. Bud knows that too.

I don’t think Dupree or Hargrave get resigned. Do you think they offer TJ Watt a new contract? I know he’s controlled through this seaon and next with 5th year option, but he’s a player whose price I just see going higher and higher. Any chance on JuJu, or far too risky given the production drop, he’s FA next year.
Gerry Dulac
11:08
Dupree will not get re-signed, he will be given the franchise tag. Yes, and you could wager all your timely possession that Watt will get a new contract, possibly this year but more likely next. The Steelers have to take care of Cam Heyward first.

I heard the Steelers management bring up Paxton Lynch a few times when the QB situation was mentioned.  A few things: Is he signed to a new futures contract?  Does he have a real shot at No. 3 on depth chart?
Gerry Dulac
11:09
Paxton Lynch is under contract for another season. He has a shot, yes, but it depends what the team discovers about Ben's rehab/recovery and whether they need to sign a former starter as an extra backup QB. They didn't give Lynch a shot at all this year when they easily could have and I'm not sure a whole lot will change next season.

Being reasonable, the Steelers do NOT have the cap space or the draft picks to fulfill all their needs-after seeing how they performed last year without a QB, how do you approach the upcoming season?
Gerry Dulac
11:10
Relax. They are the best at managing the cap and they will do it again this year. Have you ever seen the Steelers conduct a fire-sale of players because of the salary cap? No. It's going to be OK.
Mike45
11:10
Do you see the Steelers extending Tomlin before camp?  Just my opinion, but what he just did with the Mason-Myles situation and squeezing 8-8 out of that offense last year was some of his best work.
Gerry Dulac
11:11
They did that last year, so no. He is good through the 2021 season. But he did a masterful job last season, despite their 0-3 finish.

Hi...what's the status of the rugby player tight end? Is he still with the team? Never hear him mentioned when the talk is about the TE situation...thanx
Gerry Dulac

Funny you should ask -- I just checked the other day and I was told he is still active on the roster, as of right now. He is part of the International Pathway Program. But I don't think he has a realistic shot at improving the position, though he is one very impressive physical specimen at 6-foot-9, 275 pounds.
