Gerry Dulac

Gerry ... After watching super bowl I would hate to see Bud go.   Him and Watt are game changers.   You will need that to beat chiefs and if 7 is coming back why not push chips to center one last time.  Find a way to sign him/franchise him. Id cut someone else to keep him. I like Highsmith but you need 3 olb.
Gerry Dulac
10:47
You are right about the tandem, but that is not going to happen. Dupree can get a lot more money in free agency than he can with the Steelers, who are going to give the big money to Watt. It's nice to think that Bud's injury might give the Steelers a slim, slim, slim chance to bring him back on a one-year deal, but that is not likely. It's the reason they drafted Highsmith. They knew Bud wouldn't be around.

Gerry.    I love Najee Harris but part of me thinks Canada may like Etienne more to fit his scheme.  What say you ?
Gerry Dulac
10:48
I could see that happening. Etienne is a scheme player, one who has to fit the right system.

Haden, Decastro, Nelson, Ebron- all entering last yr of contract? do you expect them all back and with lowered ‘21 cap hit thanks to a contract extension?
Gerry Dulac
10:49
I'm not sure right now if Haden and Nelson both are back. Maybe just one of the two. And don't assume which player it will be.

Do you it would be better to move on from Ben. I think this season was all he could muster. At least draft a QB that will sit behind him, just like Ben did when he was drafted. Mason is just a statue.
Gerry Dulac
10:51
That wouldn't surprise me, but if Ben is back that means they think they can still win it all, and if they think that then they will draft a player who they think can help accomplish that in 2021. And it's not a QB. And I disagree with you about Rudolph. Yes, hes not Lamar Jackson, but he's not a statue

Hi Gerry, what do you think of not 1 player in the world top 20 playing at the ATT this week?  How do you pass up playing at Pebble and Spyglass. Are these players afraid of their games being exposed to the variable playing conditions?
Gerry Dulac
10:51
Maybe they're weary of playing in a pro-am for three or four days. Ever think of that??

Gerry, are there any road-paver nasty OL men becoming available in free agency or in the upper end of the draft, that the Stillers may target? Thanks in advance.
Gerry Dulac
10:52
I'll be honest, I haven't studied the prospects yet.

10:52
Hi Gerry.Do you see Pittsburgh moving up to draft a quarterback in 1st round or drafting Kyle Trask at 24.
Gerry Dulac
10:52
Not if Ben is back. But you never know.

What’s the realistic hope with Ben coming back?  I’m not sure anyone not wearing black and gold glasses thinks he can still win a super bowl.  So 365 days from now we will be having same convo.  Drafting 20-25th pick.    Just feels like it’s all for nostalgia and that’s not the way it should be.  Ben is holding us back from moving forward.   I love Ben btw but just stating facts
Gerry Dulac
10:53
Be careful what you wish for. Moving on and moving forward are two different things

Morning Gerry..how do you feel the Steelers will deal with the QB situation..do they even know what they have in Rudolph from what...10 starts in his career..no tru OC...what QB can show themselves with such limited exp. and prep?
Gerry Dulac
10:54
I think they have a good idea what they have in Rudolph.
Ralph
10:54
Hi Gerry.Do you see any chance Ben not coming back this year.I feel Pittsburgh might not be all that upset if they cannot agree on the money or some things what he might want and they go separate ways. Thanks
Gerry Dulac
10:55
Sure I can. In fact, I have said I think the Steelers want Ben to make up their mind for them. Kind of like, 'You sure you want to come back?'

Good morning Gerry. Many Steeler fans are wondering if the organization is being too stubborn with some of their decisions and philosophies. But I would match their track record as a sports team and business organization against anyone. And i do have a feeling next year will not only be a transition year, but one that will get back to Steeler football. Your comments please. Thank you
Gerry Dulac
10:57
I've noticed that since the season I've had to remind people they were 12-4 and division champs. Not saying they are a Super Bowl team, but this idea they have to start over....??? Based on what?
HT
10:57
hi Gerry thanks for your work. Are we steeler fans overly sensitive to the breakdown in culture or so people that you talk to around the league also see it? I just don’t see the dancing on logos, trash talking before big games, Locker Room Facebook lives etc... being done to this extent by other teams and it’s not the Steelers we grew up with!  Is there hope that they will correct this?
Gerry Dulac
10:59
You're not overly sensitive, you're overly aware, because intolerant behavior has been allowed to happen way too often and for way too long. I wouldn't hold your breath on it stopping any time soon unless some of the characters find another circus in which to perform.

With McDonald retiring, is there another Heath Miller out there we can draft?
Gerry Dulac
11:01
There might be, but he's probably in the first round and I don't see that happening this year. Not as long as Ebron is around.

Gerry I just want to say thank you for your honesty and integrity when it comes to the Steeler's team and organization. Don't make excuses when my team stinks. Make suggestions on how they can get better. That's why I look forward to your chat every week. Thank you.

Bruce Arians mentioned in an interview post SB that he was basically fired for having too close a relationship with Ben Roethlisberger. My guess is he let Ben play the way he wanted which was a reckless style and not advantageous to his future health. Hence Tod Haley. Don't you think this makes the Steelers front office look foolish by releasing that he was retired?
Gerry Dulac
11:04
Yes it does, but I was told the decision to say he "retired" was by mutual consent. And what he said was correct. But I will tell you Mike Tomlin wanted to bring him back. He told Arians that on several occasions after the season, even in front of other coaches. But Tomlin was told several days later Arians would not be offered a contract to return.

Fichtner received a lot of criticism that his game plans lacked creativity, and that seems true. But don't you think it's fair to assess that he was hindered a lot by all the things his aging, immobile QB can't do anymore? He's no threat to run or roll-out, and it seems the imperative on every play is that he not take any hits.
Gerry Dulac
11:05
It might have hindered his ability to call those types of plays, but that's all negated by the things No. 7 is able to do in the pocket, which he does better than any just about any QB in the league.

Gerry,  with the new hirings of Klemm and Morgan, do you know if the organization intends to change there running game philosophy or scheme, so to speak?  Do they intend to become more outside-zone heavy, trap heavy, etc., and if so will they be looking at a certain type of lineman to fit that scheme in the draft?
Gerry Dulac
11:06
Of course they do. That's why they're changing coaches...and eventually their personnel

So Ben is supposed to meet with Steelers Leaders this week.  Is he allowed to tear up his current contact & establish a new salary cap friendly deal?  Wasn’t sure about the NFL cap rules for this situation - Thanks!
Gerry Dulac
11:08
I assume you mean figuratively when you ask about tearing up his contract. But they can't restructure, per see, because he's in the final year of his contract. What they will do is give him a new three-year contract in which they can spread out the terms of the deal over 3 years, even though they don't plan on him playing the final two years of the deal.
