OK kids, we're going to start our chat in just a few minutes so get ready....
9:54
OK, let's get started. Fire away....

Gerry: in the 4th quarter of the last four Steeler wins, they very nearly blew a two score lead at Baltimore and at Detroit, gave up a couple of easy quick TDs to Miami, and were on the verge of giving up the lead 3 times on Sunday.  What can be done to improve the defense's ability to close out games?
Gerry Dulac
10:00
"Very nearly." "On the verge." But they didn't. Maybe they can shorten the fourth quarter.

If the Steelers draft a QB high in the 2026 draft, do you think Will Howard will get a legitimate shot at winning the QB1 job?
Gerry Dulac
10:01
You mean like they say every training camp between Ben and Aaron Rodgers?
ESO
10:01
It’s not just the improved line play, the QB who can, the running game and the defense coming alive. I get the feeling that there is some special Black and Gold magic happening this year on our way to the Super Bowl. Do you feel it too?

I'll just go one playoff game at a time for right now ESO.

I hated that play call on the one yard line at the end of the first half. What is your assessment of Arthur Smith's play calling in Sunday's game, on a scale of 1 to 10?
Gerry Dulac
10:03
I didn't hate the call -- I always like those misdirection tosses -- I didn't like the decision. In that situation, at the end of the half, I kick.

Gerry: my biggest concern for this game is that Tomlin/Smith/Rodgers will be so afraid of Houston's pass rush that every pass will be released so quickly that it will render the offense completely impotent.  This is what happened against Cleveland.  Will they learn from those mistakes?
Gerry Dulac
10:05
Hey, Rodgers gets rid of the ball quickly every game, so it just might be a punch quicker this game.

Hi Gerry, any chance for Washington to return if the Steelers advance deep into the playoffs?
Gerry Dulac
10:06
Only if they get to the Super Bowl. Not before then.

I am sure that you have seen the image of the goal posts with “Harbaugh fired” on the outside and “Tomlin fired” on the inside.  But there was no possible way, even with a made field goal, and even with 3-4 monumental defensive lapses that Tomlin was going to be fired, right?
Gerry Dulac
10:06
I have seen it and you are correct.
Andrew in ATL
10:06
I think the Harbaugh-Tomlin rivalry was probably the best the NFL has ever seen. It will be missed. Any other coaching rivalries you recall at the same level?
Gerry Dulac
10:07
I don't know about "ever," but it was a good one, mainly because it lasted 18 years. You don't see that very often, especially in today's NFL.

Hello Gerry - wasn’t letting Najee walk a key to this years success? When you combine running and catching, Warren and Gainwell may be the best duo since Rocky and Franco. The way Warren runs through tackles is something Najee couldn’t do.
Gerry Dulac
10:10
In retrospect, you can say that because it allowed Gainwell to play and flourish, right into being the team MVP. I don't know about the best duo since 32 and 20. They had a pretty good combo in 2004 with Bettis and Duce Staley.

Good morning Gerry! I saw some people who were upset about Tomlin celebrating the missed field goal and pounding his chest. Basically attributing the celebration to a “non football play” that sealed the game, as they called it. I guess the 1990-91 giants team should’ve quietly collected their belongings and left the field when Norwood missed the kick in the superbowl. Did you have any problem with Tomlin and the team celebrating?
Gerry Dulac
10:11
Those are the same people who want Tomlin fired. I had no problem with it at all. Every other coach would've reacted in some similar manner. Go look at Cowger's reaction when Vanderjact missed the FG in 2005
Ryan
10:11
Hi Gerry.  What do you think about our chances in the playoffs.  I really think that we are going to surprise a lot of people and go far.
Gerry Dulac
10:12
That's what I'm curious to see Ryan. But I'll wait until after Monday night

Good morning, Gerry. If the Steelers win Monday, what would have to happen for them to have the next game at Acrisure?  Thank you.
Gerry Dulac
10:13
NE and Jacksonville would have to lose.

10:13
Gerry: Tomlin says he doesn't want the team carrying his baggage of playoff failure and Sunday night was only "playoff like", but do you think he would have gone for 4th and almost 2 from his own side of the field in the 1st quarter if that 73-0 1st quarter playoff stat wasn't haunting him?
Gerry Dulac
10:14
He was treating the game like a playoff game so it's likely, with the exact same circumstances, he would have done the same thing. And it was 63-0.

Hey Gerry, it’s funny how things work out. Tomlin takes so much (justified) heat for those letdown games, but without the stinker in Cleveland, the Baltimore game has no meaning and they probably rest starters. The Baltimore game ended up being a “life moment” for so many Steeler fans and you could argue that Tomlin shined in that game, he certainly bounced back from the embarrassment of last year’s playoff debacle. In many ways, this playoff game is being played with house money. He already vindicated himself for those who matter the most, he delivered a home playoff game on a Monday night, and his rival is the one who got voted off the island. Without the stinker in Cleveland - which made me sick, don’t get me wrong - there is a totally alternative history and narrative. Sports produces great stories! Thanks -
Gerry Dulac
10:17
I will tell you there were people in that building who thought the Cleveland stinker could be a wake up call and get the players back focused on games that matter. Well, that's kind of what happened. The way the offense bounced back -- without Metcalf, after the performance in Cleveland -- was impressive

National insiders prior to the game Sunday night were all hinting like the losing coach of the game was going to be either on the hot seat or “have a decision to make.” If the  ball bounced the other way and went in on the field goal, I believe Tomlin would still be employed. And even better than that, I think he would have still remained the Steelers coach  even if the team had a losing season this year. Do you agree?
Gerry Dulac
10:17
I do.

Good morning Gerry, so one missed kick gets Harbaugh fired and releases a euphoric drug on us fans now singing “Pittsburghs going to the Superbowl “. Hoping for a win on Monday but give us a pragmatic Dulac status of this team. Is this another Rudolph goes to Buffalo gang? Thanks for the great PG coverage this season.
Gerry Dulac
10:19
No because it's Aaron Rodgers going to Acrisure Stadium. Hey, look, let's see them win a playoff game first before anyone starts singing, let alone thinking about a Super Bowl.

Looking ahead to the Texans matchup, will Joey Porter Jr. follow Nick Collins as I recall he destroyed the Steelers in a previous game.
Gerry Dulac
10:21
I think so. Collins had 7c for 168 yards and 2 TDs last meeting. Might be a good idea to check that box.

What was with the wasted timeouts? I always assumed the refs stopped the clock if the radios malfunctioned.
Gerry Dulac
10:21
Me too, but maybe it's because the Steelers communicators went out and not the Ravens. Not sure.

GM Gerry, and Happy New Year! All I hear about is how lucky the Steelers were that Baltimore missed the field goal.  I think it was equally lucky for Baltimore that Boswell missed the extra point. They now say Boswell's extra point was blocked.  I didn't see a block; it looked more like the football was weighted the way it veered sharply to the right.  Do you agree, with what was on the line, that was the craziest regular season game you ever saw?
Gerry Dulac
10:23
It was one of them, if not the craziest. The last eight minutes were great theater for all the lead changes and big plays...and yeah the missed kicks. The official stats, after review, said Boz's PAT was blocked (actually deflected) saw it apparently was touched.
