Anthony Franco
2:58
Hey everyone, welcome to what I believe will be my last pre-deadline chat
2:59
May have to hold this one tight to an hour depending on how busy things are, so I'll try to move a little more quickly than normal
Artie Moreno
2:59
You can’t trade Otani. He is so unique. So many ridiculous proposals out there
Anthony Franco
3:00
No harm in listening but I generally agree with the sentiment. Would have to be an absurd offer to move him when he's under control another season
Guards
3:00
Do you see the Guardians actually doing anything of note at the deadline? They have to do something with the logjam of prospects, right?
A's fan from Poland
3:01
Would Guardians be the most obvious pick for Sean Murphy? It seems like he is on the move, and Cleveland has a lot of prospects to offer. Could Pinder also be included, since there was interest in him in the past?
Anthony Franco
3:01
Figure I'll run these together since I agree that Murphy to the Guardians makes a ton of sense. Really feels like their type of player, affordable at a position of huge need
3:02
I do think they'll be active, perhaps in moving a starter for a bat and consolidating some of the infield depth. They should be trying to upgrade over Franmil in my opinion
As for Pinder, eh sure. He'll probably go somewhere but he's not going to move the needle for anyone really
The beast
3:03
How fun is Alek Manoah to watch? The guy's a beast. Does he get any Cy Young consideration?
Anthony Franco
3:04
Yeah he's awesome. I was kind of down on him relative to consensus his draft year -- thought he might not have the command to be consistent start in and start out -- and I'm glad to be wrong
3:05
As far as Cy Young goes, he'll absolutely get votes but I'd probably lean towards McClanahan and Verlander as the likeliest to win it right now. There's a strong group bunched at the top
Mickey777
3:05
Next move for the Yankees?
Anthony Franco
3:06
Seems like they'll get both a starter and some relief help. Rotation feels more like a back-end guy to me, then a solid righty middle reliever in the Givens/Michael Fulmer mold
Expect them to trade Gallo for a marginal return within the next few days too
Chappy
3:06
Looking like the Jays kinda won that Chapman trade, huh?
Anthony Franco
3:08
It was always going to look better for the Jays early, although Kevin Smith's apparently just not good. Gunnar Hoglund's the real prize there though and he just started a rehab assignment
A's fan from Poland
3:08
Could Sam Moll be a trade chip? This has the potencial to be a good, quiet move for a contender like St. Louis.
Anthony Franco
3:09
Yeah we're running our final trade candidates thing shortly (any minute, I think) and Moll's on there as an honorable mention. Control isn't very good but it's a strong combination of strikeouts and grounders, he's interesting
Miguel Sano
3:09
Has Minnesota forgotten about me?   I’m sitting here on the bench waiting to show what I can do.
Anthony Franco
3:10
I don't really know what else they can do. Sanó was terrible early in the year, and since he's gotten hurt, Arraez and Miranda have been really good
They've got a bunch of corner bats and he's just at the bottom of the pecking order because he started so poorly
Stever
3:10
Realistically...brewers could trade for Andujar Bell and Laureano without giving up anything substantial right?
Anthony Franco
3:11
Disagree. Andújar won't cost much, but Bell's probably going to require two of the organization's top 15 prospects. Laureano even more given the extended window of control and the scarcity of center field alternatives
Giantsphan
3:11
Checking back in six weeks later Anthony!  You still bullish on the Giants?  I no longer am.  I think they should sell and go into a mini-rebuild…a two year restocking if you will.  I think a bold move is warranted at this time….sell everything they have for a hopeful haul, or trade all their prospects for Soto and build around him.  The fan base (me!) is tired of all the half-measures.  As Russo would say “what say you?”
Anthony Franco
3:12
Ha yeah, my faith is wavering. They came out of the Break so atrociously flat
3:14
I'd give it until the end of the weekend. If they sweep the Cubs (doable) they're right back in it. But if they lose two of the next three, I'd probably pivot and deal the rentals (Rodón, Joc, Flores)
I still think it's a good team but clearly not anywhere close to last season's. Wouldn't blow things up the way you're proposing, but they've got some very good rental trade chips and it may be time to cash them in
The Ranger Fan
3:14
Why would the Rangers go after Soto and strip the farm when it took so long to build the farm, and would the work out a contract of 6-10 years beforehand? Because what Washington wants for two years seems over asking. Thank
Anthony Franco
3:16
I don't expect the Rangers to come out of this with Soto, but their pursuit makes sense. They've thrown a bunch of money at trying to get good by 2023, and one of the advantages to building a deep farm system is it allows you to consolidate talent when the opportunity presents itself
3:17
Getting a chance to trade for even two years of a player this good almost never happens, and if they acquired Soto and followed up by signing two starting pitchers next winter, they'd be a legitimate contender next year
Vision
3:17
Do you think the Yankees would call up Peraza to replace IFK if he’s still in the system after the deadline?
Anthony Franco
3:18
Don't see it. Peraza's been fine but not overwhelming in Scranton, and more to the point, they really zeroed in on IKF last winter. I doubt they're giving up on him after a few months
Dave…just Dave
3:18
What are the Red Sox doing at first base? Is Casas going to eventually come up this year? Are they putting Franchy there in hopes of him creating some trade value? Is Dalbec no longer any option there?
Anthony Franco
3:19
I have no idea why they haven't addressed it. I thought they should've done something last winter, but they seem more optimistic about Dalbec than I've ever been
At this point, it's probably too late to do anything drastic. Casas is going to be up within a couple months, and this doesn't feel like a team that should be pushing in for Josh Bell. Probably just riding it out until Casas arrives now
Hits Like Rays
3:20
I think the Rays are in a great position to go after Juan Soto: desperate need for a big hitter right now, great farm system, $25 million coming off the books next year, and they already showed their willingness to pay a special player when they pursued Freddy Freeman.  What say you?
Anthony Franco
3:21
It'd be jaw-dropping, that's for sure. I can't disagree with anything you've said. They make sense as a fit for all the reasons you mentioned, and the Freeman pursuit is at least eyebrow-raising, but I'd still be stunned if it happens. Soto's arb salaries the next two years are going to be huge
FantasyFanatic
3:21
Soto (tigers) and JIminez both switching dugouts this weekend?
Anthony Franco
3:22
Jiménez, Fulmer, Chafin probably all go. I think Soto stays
