Anthony Franco
3:01
Hey everyone, hope you've all enjoyed your week!
3:02
Decent number of questions already in here today, let's get going
Gavin
3:02
Would the O's actually trade Rutschman?   what would the Padres need to give up?  Salas, Mayfield + more?
Anthony Franco
3:04
I have a hard time seeing the Orioles blowing it up to that extent. Salas plus Mayfield would be a really compelling offer though
Zack
3:05
What is your take on the Devers/Red Sox situation?
Steve
3:05
Should the Red Sox give up trying to move Devers to first and focus instead on focus finding a true first baseman than can play in Worcester and get called up when necessary?
Gavin
3:05
will Boston move on and try and trade Devers?
Anthony Franco
3:06
Just a few of a bunch of Devers questions in here. It's a bad look for the player in my view, which I assume is more or less the consensus opinion
3:08
He's still pissed that Breslow pushed him off third base to begin with. Understandable enough, but acting like he's taken aback by the idea that they'd ask him to take first base reps in response to a devastating injury to their starter is nonsensical
3:10
It's the most obvious solution, I don't doubt that he could play a reasonable first base, and it'd allow them to find at-bats for Yoshida if he ever comes back. Could the communication have been better when they were pursuing Bregman? Probably. But Devers' presser yesterday just came off as petulant

What's the worse pitching hail mary: The Orioles picking up Louis F. Castillo or the Jays signing Jose Urena?
Anthony Franco
3:11
Ha, well I think there's a decent chance Luis F. Castillo gets DFA before he ever plays a game for the Orioles. Urena's a stopgap until Turnbull's ready but it's not ideal to need him to take even four or five turns through the rotation
Giants Fan
3:11
The Giants' rotation seems shaky to me.   With Kyle Harrison back, what should they do to solidify it for a potential stretch run?   Or would simply substituting him for Hicks be enough?
Anthony Franco
3:14
I'd definitely like it better with either Harrison or Birdsong in there instead of Hicks. I don't feel great about Verlander but he's probably got a long leash. They could use a back-end arm at the deadline to guard against an injury to Ray or push Roupp to the bullpen if everyone's healthy, but the short-term solution is just to swap Hicks out
Bruce
3:15
Phillies obviously need a good bullpen piece or two. How long until reality hits in St. Louis and they make Helsley available?  Would Otto Kemp and a lower level pitcher be enough?
Anthony Franco
3:16
I doubt that'd be enough. Rental reliever prices last year were pretty high. Phils gave up a lot more than that for Estévez, Padres ponied up for Tanner Scott (though they also got Bryan Hoeing in that deal)
3:17
Cards would have to feel pretty confident that Kemp's a plug-and-play regular. Most scouting reports suggest he's more of a utility guy and the minor league strikeout rates are pretty concerning
When will the Cardinals move him? I assume within a week or so of the deadline, even though they should've done it over the offseason

3:18
One trade the Royals need to make before the Trade Deadline ends
Anthony Franco
3:20
They need outfield help obviously. Would probably be at the top of the list of Mullins suitors if Baltimore has to sell. Harrison Bader or Gavin Lux would be interesting if those teams drop out of it
3:21
Could revisit Taylor Ward for the 100th time. The Angels are going to need to trade him eventually. The truly bad teams don't have much to offer in terms of outfield help, though, so a lot is going to depend on how other teams play over the next two months
mlb Fan
3:22
Does Verlander hang around long enough to get to 4k strikeouts?
Anthony Franco
3:22
It'd be cool as hell but I'd take the under on 549 strikeouts from here on out
3:23
That's probably another four seasons without a significant injury for a mid-40s pitcher. Can't see it happening
Use the force Luke(s)
3:23
Do the Jays have anything here?  30 years old and not really ever a prospect.  Seems like the classic case of doing everything good but nothing good enough to stick out in the minors.  But the Jays outfield is sooooo bad otherwise
Anthony Franco
3:25
I think he's a fourth outfielder because of the lack of power but I like him as a depth guy more than I like Straw
3:27
I've seen Lukes play live a decent amount over the years with the Bisons. Obviously I'm not a scout but he never popped to me as a future regular even though the production has always been pretty good, as you mentioned
Brewer Fan
3:27
If the Brewers fade is Hoskins tradable? Would they be able to get anything of note for him?
Anthony Franco
3:28
Eh, I still don't think there's much value. They'd probably have to pay down a portion of the option buyout to move him for a middling return
3:29
I buy that he's back to being a productive hitter but if they move him at the deadline, there's still around a third of an $18M salary plus the $4M buyout at the end of the season. That's a lot for a team to take on for two months of a good but not elite bat
Hold The Mayo
3:30
Why bring Mayo up just to sit on the bench?
Anthony Franco
3:32
He's started three out four against RHP since being called up. Will probably take some at-bats from Mountcastle if Hyde really prefers Rivera's glove at third
AJ Preller
3:32
My team could use some bench help, particularly against left handed pitching. Whom should I target at the trade deadline? Let's assume anyone suitable is made available.
Anthony Franco
3:34
Austin Hays or Ramón Urías? You could probably buy Dane Myers as a fourth outfielder despite the strikeout issues

When I was visiting Miami last month, I took in a game at loanDepot park. They had a pretty cool ‘Bobblehead Museum’. That got me thinking: do more parks have such a thing? Is there an actual ‘Bobblehead Museum’ anywhere and would one actually work? It was lots of cool nostalgia for me, especially the Frank ‘Hondo’ Howard one.
Anthony Franco
3:36
Google tells me there's indeed a bobblehead museum in Milwaukee. I'm not aware of any in specifics parks but throwing this out there in case anyone from the chat has suggestions

Yandy Diaz trade - who would be in and what would Rays get back.  I think if Rays move first like they did last year with Randy Arozarena - they will be able to exact more return.  It is time for Rays to concentrate on 2026.
Anthony Franco
3:38
Yeah I agree they'd get a sneaky good return. Reasonable salaries ($10M/12M) this year and next with a club/vesting option for '27. They did just pick up the option a couple months ago, but they'd also extended Glasnow like a year before trading him, so they'll probably listen
3:40
Mariners could use first base help and it's Dipoto's goal to trade for every player who has ever worn a Rays uniform. Rangers could fit if they find a way to offload money elsewhere. Giants or Reds could work
3:41
Red Sox make some sense too but it's a tougher trade in-division and Boston probably looks for more of a stopgap type
