I am in an AL only auction league with a $260 budget, I already have Trout at $58 and I am keeping him. I was offered Trey Mancini at $15 and I would give up Springer at $42. Is it as much of a no brainer as it seems to be?
AvatarBrendan Tuma
3:32
In auction drafts, I typically like to go in with as much flexibility as possible, which is why I'm okay trading away Springer at that lofty price tag

Would draft any of these SP?  Kluber, Bumgarner, Syndergard or Verlander.  Thanks!
AvatarBrendan Tuma
3:33
I think just Kluber, who I'm pretty interested in as a late-round flyer. Of course, his pedigree combined with the Yankee tax is going to bump up his ADP. He's someone to monitor in Spring Training pretty closely
AvatarBrendan Tuma

Following up on the other players Lucas asks about, I think Bumgarner is one of the easiest fades in all of fantasy yet again. He'll pitch a lot of innings, but his ratios are going to be so un-friendly that his availability will actually hurt fantasy managers. He's only an option in deep points leagues
3:38
Meanwhile, Verlander is unlikely to pitch at all this season, so he's well off the re-draft radar. I'm in a dynasty league where we keep 30 players (12 teams) and I guess I'm keeping Verlander, but I don't think it's crazy not to
3:39
I'd prefer not to draft Syndergaard unless you have a lot of IL spots. Otherwise you're burning one on him for the first couple of months. His expectation to return is mid summer

Hi guys.. i have a dilemma
AvatarBrendan Tuma
3:39
What's up?!

I am in a 12 team 5 x 5 Roto. Historically SP is at a premium and go early. How do you see SP early round value after the short season? Who are your top SP's to keep an eye on?
AvatarBrendan Tuma
3:43
Right now high-end SPs (and stolen bases) are the two most scarce resources in fantasy baseball. Especially in a roto context I want to be aggressive on SPs this year
AvatarBrendan Tuma
3:45
Elaborating on this question from M. Cay - the shortened 2020 season has left us with a ton of hitting value later in drafts. 2020 under-performers like JDM, Gleyber Torres, Giancarlo Stanton, on and on, are available late
3:46
The fact that there is so much hitting value later on makes me want to invest in those high-end SPs early.

Hi guys .... my possible keepers in a 5x5 roto league are : Pitchers: buehler, gallen, and flaherty. Batters: trout, belli, devers, corey seager, and roberts.. 5 keepers. i know i keep for sure trout, bellinger, buehler. For the 2 spots and due to pitcher scarcity ill take flaherty but then between seager, gallen and roberts i dont know which one to take.. what would you recommend? I draft in post 4. Thanks brendan
AvatarBrendan Tuma
3:48
Jeez! This is tough. But it's a "good problem" to have. Agree on your three locks and also with Flaherty. My first thought is to try and combine Gallen and Seager into an even better fifth keeper, if you can pull off a trade. Otherwise, I'd keep Seager. Yes, high-end SPs are the most scarce resource, but Seager is a better value than Gallen.

I'm in a 10 man dynasty which I won last year
We keep 6 and there are also holds ( i go for a saves holds vs sp approach mainly) i have the 69,70 and 71st picks, who should I target at this point?
AvatarBrendan Tuma

So these types of questions can be tough to answer without additional context. Can you give me some players you think might be available at those picks? Congrats on being the reigning champ!

Good afternoon! I am a commissioner in my home league, a 12 team, 7x7 H2H league, with 27 man rosters. We want to transition to a dynasty league next year. We were thinking 36 man rosters, with 10 of those being bench spots. Also 10 man farm system, where 5

Prepare for the most fun draft of your life. NOTHING is better than a startup dynasty draft. I'm in a couple of different types of dynasty leagues. One is 12-man, 40-player rosters (keep 30 after each season) but there are no farm systems. If you want a prospects it counts as a bench spot. I'm also in a 14-team league with regular roster construction but then we have a 4-man "farm system". I kinda prefer the farm system method. It keeps everyone honest with trying to roster the same amount of prospects. I hope this answered your question but let me know if it didn't

Strategically better to draft Salvador Perez at 110 or James McCann at 200?
AvatarBrendan Tuma
3:52
I'm definitely on the side of waiting at catcher. And here's a McCann nugget for you: From 2015-18 McCann posted an 87.9 mph average exit velocity to go along with a .304 xwOBA. Over the past two seasons, he has registered a 90.2 mph average exit velocity and a .328 xwOBA

Strasburg, Carasco, Corbin, Price.  Who's your best bounce back candidate?
AvatarBrendan Tuma
3:55
Man! The fantasy industry is sleeping on Carrasco. He was fantastic last year! 2019 can be written off due to leukemia. And then in 2020 he had a 2.91 ERA with 82 Ks in 68 IP. There's also a misconception that he's injury prone. But from 2015-18 he started 30 games three times. Then had the leukemia season and last year was a shortened season, and he was great. I'm aggressively targeting him.
AvatarBrendan Tuma
3:56
For the record - I also like Strasburg. Yes he's an injury risk but that is baked into his ADP. There's a lot of profit potential with where he's being drafted right now

I'm seeing mock drafts where Mike Trout is going in the 4-5 pick range.... Are people overthinking this or is he no longer #1?
AvatarBrendan Tuma
3:58
Bingo! So, the reason Trout is "falling" in drafts has entirely to do with stolen bases. In strict 5x5 roto leagues you can make an argument for Acuna/Tatis over him. Just because of the SBs. But I actually have Trout as my No. 1 overall player regardless of format. He's easily the safest of the bunch, but I wouldn't necessarily blame anyone if they didn't take him there

keeper league 10 veterans and 7 rookie keepers ..should i trade Scherzer for A. Chapman,Mize and Alejandro Kirk (toronto catcher)
AvatarBrendan Tuma

Aging pitchers are depreciating assets in keeper leagues. We know this. But I'd hold out for a little more for Scherzer. Mize is a good starting point but Chapman/Kirk aren't building blocks moving forward. I'd be okay rostering Scherzer to start the year and seeing how he does. I think a lot of folks are down on him right now, but a hot start to the year could still increase his value

Also should I keep alvarez, cruz or ketel marte
AvatarBrendan Tuma

These are close enough where I'd wait as long as possible to gather as much info. Cruz is the safest bet to be a boss in 2020, but if it's a "keep forever situation" than I'd keep Alvarez. He was truly special in '19

Which top-30 SPs are you not as high on as most others coming into the year, if any?
AvatarBrendan Tuma
4:04
I'm fading Walker Buehler a bit. Yes, he's amazing with the innings he gives you, but I worry about how the Dodgers will handle him (skipped starts here and there, shorter outings despite pitching effectively). They continue to treat him with kid gloves. Did you know that during the regular season last year he had just one start where he completed 6 IP? For comparison Dustin May had three such outings, Tony Gonsolin four, and Julio Urias five

16 Team H2H pts league. Tough keeper calls and each move up one spot each year. Can only keep in rounds 1-8.  I have 2 8ths, 1 7th, 1 6th, 2 5ths, and 2 4ths.  Tatis Jr, Vlad Jr, Yordan Alvarez, Bieber, and Hiura can all keep anywhere.  Soto and Acuna rounds 7 and below and Yelich round 5 and below.  Other than Tatis and Vladdy in the 2 8 spots, how would you position the rest?  Sorry, it’s a confusing format so I tried to high level it.  Thanks
