Brad Johnson
1:02
Hey folks, we'll get started in a few moments
Josh Avery
1:04
Do you think Cristian Javier will figure it out?
Brad Johnson
1:05
So the main change for Javier has been a drop in strikeouts and swinging strikes.
I don't know offhand if there's a pitch-level issue with his repertoire. I know his velo is down a bit which could indicate an injury.
1:06
The other thing he's done historically which isn't working this year is limit opposing BABIPs. His .283 BABIP is 43 points above his career average.
1:07
He does this because he's an extreme fly ball pitcher. The trouble with extreme FB guys is, when they go off the rails, it's UGLY. And I wouldn't say Javier is off the rails yet.

Short answer is, yes, I think he's still a good pitcher, albeit it could go bad.
Miguel Vargas
1:07
What adjustments can he make for a quick recall?
Brad Johnson
1:08
Contact has been his issue lately. I think the trouble stems from failed adjustments in the Majors. We talk about the importance of adjustments all the time, but sometimes what you try doesn't work.
1:09
His strikeout rate has spiked which is why I suspect a failed adjustment.

Is Sal Frelick worth a speculative pickup? How soon until he is up?
Brad Johnson
1:10
Not in my opinion, just doesn't make impact contact. I was fooled last year because I love the discipline and contact-based profile, but now I have access to better data.

Do you have more confidence in Michael Busch or Miguel Vargas for dynasty points leagues at this point? Both seeming bat first kinda position less but should get 3B or 2B eligibility.
Brad Johnson
1:12
The evals I've gotten on Busch over the years have yo-yo'd all over the place. I have almost no sense of what he'll be. His performance in Triple-A this season was quite encouraging, but you'd expect that from a 25-year-old with his pedigree.
I'd guess he's closer to "fine" than "good." 12-team mixed streamer.
1:13
As for Vargas, I have a little more faith in long-term growth, though we're looking at another guy who's more of a deep league core performer than a high value target. He has some Brantley-ish traits, and it did take Brantley a few years to really click.
Concerned Craig Counsell
1:14
What do you attribute Freddy P's HR problem too? Random variance that should regress? He's throwing harder than ever and also the strikeouts are down. Weird season.
Brad Johnson
1:15
Cookies, basically. He's not as extreme as Javier, but he's definitely a fly ball guy. These types look bad when they run an elevated HR/FB ratio - which is more luck than skill...
Vince
1:15
I traded for Aaron Judge (S. Marte and Eury Perez). Do you think he'll be back this year and "back" when he does return?
Brad Johnson
1:15
Yes to both.
Jazz
1:15
Any news on his hopefully quick return?
Brad Johnson
1:16
I've heard the injury is considered minor. That's it.
Drafted Him Early
1:16
Does Daulton Varsho still hold any Roto value?
Brad Johnson
1:16
Yes because he's a catcher. If he was an outfielder, he'd be replaceable.

I grabbed Cowser upon the callup and now looking to shuffle a bench bat for a pitcher or infielder. Who would you have on the outs in H2H categories?
Bryant, Kelenic, Fraley, Cowser
Brad Johnson
1:17
If you can send Kelenic for something useful, I would. I'm out on him personally.
Twitchy traits sabotaged by huge holes in his swing.
Andrew Vaughn for Riley Greene
1:17
Fair?
Brad Johnson
1:17
Yea
1:18
Either side could reasonably object too. Such is the nature of trading...
Belli owner since way back
1:18
Is Cody’s bounce back legit? Think this will continue moving forward or time to sell?
Brad Johnson
1:19
I don't really view him as a .300 hitter, but the rest of it looks sustainable. He's not the guy he was from 2017-2019.
He's somewhere in between 2020 and 2022 versions. The contact is back, the power isn't really.
1:20
The discipline's also at a mid-point between good and bad Bellinger
cabin-bound in Alaska
1:20
I'm in a deep league that counts Holds, Robert Suarez is available and I'm wondering if you have a sense for his rest-of-season productivity
Brad Johnson
1:21
If he comes back looking like the 2022 version, he should be valuable. You can try to stash him. Might even close since Hader could be trade bait.
I don't have any info or data on his few rehab outings.
Kreskin
1:21
Do we see Skenes in Pittsburg next year?
Brad Johnson
1:21
I think so
1:22
That's why you make that pick. He's a rare prospect who requires no development.
I think they go Langford if they didn't view Skenes as helping them ASAP.
