Hey folks, we're going to get started in a few minutes. Keep the questions flowing. We should get to all of them!
12:09
ok, sorry about the delay there.
PS
12:09
What should I do with Trevor Bauer. in a keeper league.  Do I just cut him or will he back pitching by mid year
Brad Johnson
12:10
This is a tough one. I've taken to just telling everyone I'm not going to use him this season and letting others decide if they want to join me.
12:11
There's no telling what, if any, penalty he'll receive. Since he's sat for so long on administrative leave, the league may treat that as "time served" for any suspension. I expect it to be a lengthy suspension.
12:12
As for cutting him, I probably would unless your alternatives just aren't worth a roster spot.

What do you think is the shallowest position in NL-only's this season?  Who would you target at that position?  Thanks!
Brad Johnson
12:13
That's a good question.
12:14
Offhand, I can't tell if shortstop or third base are playing thinner. I want to say shortstop. A lot of those top guys are in the AL and Tatis is down now.
Personally, I'd look for Adames, Crawford, Taylor, or Cruz.
12:15
If you whiff and want a stash, I think Bryson Stott is going to be good. The Phillies may need him fairly early too if Gregorius/Segura/Bohm aren't hitting.

Hey Brad! I’m new to fantasy baseball this year. Any tips for a beginner?
Brad Johnson
12:16
Oh boy, so many tips!
#1 - fantasy baseball is an effort-based game. Keep trying even if things look bleak in May or June or July. Keep scraping to gain in the standings.
12:17
#2 - a short cut is to focus on reaching your games played and inning pitched caps. Winning is correlated with doing so. Remember, correlation is not causation.
12:18
Especially with innings, be careful about getting too far ahead of pace while using mediocre arms. However, if you just happened to collect too many studs, bank those innings early.
Then come see me midseason and I'll drop you more advice :)

A fee reliever questions: Is Gallegos going to close for the Cardinals?
A few reliever questions: is Gallegos going to close? Is it still looking like Floro for the Marlins? Who are some late round guys to target?
Brad Johnson
12:20
Gallegos should close, but my money is on Jordan Hicks (a late round target). I do think Floro will get first shot as of what I've heard today. Best alternative is Anthony Bender. If you grab both very late, you probably mint one closer and have a waiver move for around day 5 of the season.
Andres Munoz is one of the most talented pitchers in the league. Presently ignored.
Mariners have a LOT of options
12:21
David Bednar
Tyler Duffey has a decent chance to edge out Taylor Rogers.
12:22
I'm taking Jake McGee over Camilo Doval
It's just a gamble.
Brad Hand isn't appreciably worse than Corey Knebel
Dinelson Lamet looks like a closer to me
Or he should be. They're saying multi-inning reliever.
12:23
I really like Kittredge, kinda skirts the "late" title.

Brad, in a recent chat, you talked about maxing out your RP roster spots.  I'm in a typical 5x5 Roto league with 9 P spots, no set number of SP or RP.  Are you suggesting going all RP to optimize SV, ERA, and WHIP, figuring to finish (at best) mid-pack in K and W?  Or would you get a couple of top-tier starters to help with K and W and then the rest RP?  I've tended to aim for about 6 SP and 3 RP, but with the game changing so much the last few years, I can see the benefit of more relievers, but how many is too many on an active roster?  Thanks!
Brad Johnson
12:25
You need a full complement of starters still.
As long as it's daily moves, I tend to stream through those spots as much as possible.
12:26
So I'll have my 6 SP, maybe 4-5 RP, then I'll have 3 more spots that are either RP or POS as needed.
If I only have 1 SP on a day, then I want 8 RP as often as possible. If 3 SP, then I just want 6 RP and I'll look to use those other spots on bats.

Is German a potential sleeper? Lots of good underlying numbers.
Brad Johnson
12:27
I'm not sure if this is meant to be Domingo or Marquez. So I'll speak to the problems with both.
12:28
Marquez has a very bad fastball. Laughably bad.
It's just so hittable. Even without Coors Field, he'd struggle to overcome ~4.00 ERA. He's fine, but just that - fine.
12:29
Domingo has a home run problem that I don't see resolving anytime soon.
