Good afternoon,  let's begin
Linebacker Lounge - 3Rivers, MI
1:59
Is Franklin in the mix for a RB spot or paractice squad at best?
Ed Bouchette
2:00
Probably practice squad. I just wrote a piece about the backup tailbacks. After James Conner you have Fitz Toussaint, Stevan Ridley and rookie Jaylen Samuels. At best, only two of those 3 make it.

Hey Ed, sorry to see AB acting a fool (AGAIN) and calling you names; really appreciate all that you do and your professionalism while doing it. Any other stories about you being called out over the years that you can share?
Ed Bouchette
2:02
When you've done what I do for as long as I have, some conflicts pop up. I'm happy to say I've had only a handful. One was a funny one with Craig Wolfley in my early days covering when he mistook me for another writer who penned something he didn't like. Another was with Kevin Greene when he mistook what I asked him after a tough loss. And I had a few with Bill Cowher when he coached. I get along well with all three.

In your opinion, how concerned should Steeler fans be about the ILB position?
Ed Bouchette
2:03
To quote a line in a 30-year-old movie, The Fly, starting Pittsburgh native Jeff Goldblum -- "Be afraid. Be very, very afraid."

Why are the Steelers so good at finding Wide Receivers these days? I love the way these new guys go up and fight for the ball...
Ed Bouchette
2:04
James Washington is having one good training camp, catching everything. He is what they said he was when they drafted him in the second round. I can't tell you how they keep finding them, but they do.

2:05
why did you feel the need to tweet about who was standing or kneeling during the national anthem the other night. why stoke the controversy
Ed Bouchette
2:05
I am a reporter. I report things, especially when it's news and the president of the U.S. gets involved.
Craig Moore
2:06
Ed:  Love your work...read and listen to you often...If you feel the need to elaborate, why was something reported injury wise on AB before anything was verified by the Steelers?
Ed Bouchette
2:07
I did not report anything  injury-wise, I reported my observation -- that he limped off the field after working early in practice. period. I then reported what Mike Tomlin said about it after practice.

2:07
How hard is it to stop the run with these hybrid sub-packages with up to 7 DBs?
Ed Bouchette
2:08
Well, they didn't stop it at times with the four or five DBs, so maybe this will do the trick. There are some studs at safety, but they're not Levon Kirkland or Larry Foote or Vince Williams.

Ola looked really good against a guy playing his first-ever game of football. How has he looked against our OTs?
Ed Bouchette
2:10
Olasunkanimi Adeniyi, an undrafted rookie from the U. of Toledo, has a chance to make it as the fourth OLB on the 53-man roster. If he does, it will come at the expense of Keion Adams and those who must sew the names on the backs of the jerseys.

Hi Ed, which 2-3 rookies, in your opinion, have the best shot of making the 53 man team?
Ed Bouchette
2:12
The obvious ones, no -- Terrell Edmunds, James Washington and Mason Rudolph. After that, Damoun Patterson,  Jaylen Samuels, Ola, Matthew Thomas would be my choices as possibly making it. I'm not eliminating others, like NT Joshua Frazier or Marcus Allen from having a chance either.

2:13
With Hilton at the Nickel, who is going to be the odd man out in the secondary?
Ed Bouchette
2:14
You could see three corners and three safeties -- Sean Davis, Morgan Burnett and Terrell Edmunds in a 6-DB format. Or you could see some combinations of Burnett-Edmunds in and out.
GreenMo
2:14
Can Matthew Thomas make the 53 man roster?
Ed Bouchette
2:14
Not only can he, I think he should.
Pammy Whammy
2:15
Will the RB position ever catch back up to the QB/RB position for salary, like LB wants? Looking around, there seems to be a rise in talent and versatility on the horizon...
Ed Bouchette
2:16
These things come and go. There were times when the RB position was very well paid and those times may return. But they don't have the longevity and teams like the Eagles and Patriots have shown you don't need stars at those spots and can go with two or three different tailbacks.

I live near Baltimore but am from Latrobe.  The Ravens seem to always find new, good LB's.  The Steelers seem to always find new, good WR's.  I kid my Raven's fan friends that if we could just engineer a yearly trade, we'd both be unbeatable!
Ed Bouchette
2:17
It's only recently that the Steelers LB play has dropped off a bit. It long was the strength of their defense and more LBs made the Pro Bowl than any other position. TJ Watt is the real thing and so was Ryan Shazier until his injury.

How many DL’s make the final 53? Cam, Tuitt, Hargrave, Alualu, and ______ ?
Ed Bouchette
2:18
Up for grabs. Maybe Casey Sayles.
dave
2:18
Have you seen any indication that the defense will tackle better this season?
Ed Bouchette
2:18
Not in the first preseason game I didn't.
MrSheer
2:19
If Damoun Patterson  makes the 53, whose place is he more likely to take: Hunter or DHB?
Ed Bouchette
2:19
All three of those receivers could make it if they carry 6.
Mark from North Carolina
2:19
After watching Jaylen Samuels, I'm thinking he is headed to the practice squad at best. There is a big difference between the ACC and the NFL. Your thoughts?
Ed Bouchette
2:20
Let's see what he does in the next few games. He's a wonderful receiver. I want to see him run now, and so do his coaches so you may see a lot of him Thursday night in Green Bay
Pammy Whammy
2:20
Ed, I think Jeff Goldblum has said, "Be afraid, very afraid." in almost every movie he's been in. Independence Day, Jurassic Park 1-12 and Space Girls Have More Fun....no?
Ed Bouchette
2:20
Hmmm, I'll have to take your word for it but my research indicated The Fly was first
Brian
2:21
Have you noticed any differences in the coaching from the new coaches opposed to the prior coaches?
Ed Bouchette
2:22
Players say Tom Bradley teaches a lot of details -- as an aside, Chuck Noll was famous for that, even as a head coach. I've not noticed a lot of differences, but it's not something I've focused on either.
TK

Why didn't they re-sign Moats?  They could use some depth at LB.
