Let's say Mason plays well in preseason, when ben gets hurt this year like he does pretty much every year, would mason come in or still landry?
Ed Bouchette
1:58
Roethlisberger missed one game to injury over the past two seasons.

How’s James Conner doing and is he expected to be ready by training camp?   Like Bell his first season ended with an injury but unlike Bell I believe he showed a lot more.
Ed Bouchette
1:58
I'll know more about Conner when they start practicing in a few weeks

Do you think mike tomlin is gone if he doesn't make the playoffs or early round exit
Ed Bouchette
1:59
No, I do not. You need to read up on your history of Steelers coaches starting with Chuck Noll.

I’m concerned about Bens comments, isn’t time he acts like a leader?
Ed Bouchette
2:00
Some may take his words as acting like a leader. Have you seen what Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers are saying/not saying lately?

Ed, what are the biggest differences about covering an NFL team now compared to when you started?
Ed Bouchette
2:01
Access. We had much more of it 20 and 30 years ago

Is it concerning that Rudolph is saying more of the right things than Big Ben is?
Ed Bouchette
2:02
It shouldn't be. Why would that be of any concern, what a player says? It's not like either is demanding to be traded or holding out. You imply that Ben is saying the wrong things.

Timmons at a reasonable price (is that mutually exclusive?) Has that ship sailed?
Ed Bouchette
2:04
Apparently it has, unless there's an injury and they give him a call the way they did James Harrison 3 games into the 2014 season
Rob
2:04
If Bell stays away all through camp, do you see them getting someone else ready to start week 1? He was obviously not ready to go last year, and there may be some new wrinkles with the new OC.
Ed Bouchette
2:05
They'll do what they did last year. Practice and play those who are there and then start Bell in the opener and stick with him the rest of the way. We've seen this movie

Hey Ed, it deems to me that late Steeler owner Dan Rooney enjoyed your company on game day in the Press box. Ever think of writing a book??
Ed Bouchette
2:06
I wrote a book after Bill Cowher's first year. Dawn of a New Steel Age. Too much blood, not enough money. Plus, Dan Rooney wrote an autobiography a few years back.

If a situation similar to how Ben became a starter where Ben get a injured and Rudolph leads them to the playoffs, could you see the Steelers at least think about not renewing Ben's contract after it is up?
Ed Bouchette
2:08
and maybe rookie RB Jaylen Samuels will replace an injured Le'Veon Bell and lead them to the playoffs, and rookie WR James Washington will replace an injured Antonio Brown and become All-Pro and they will cut AB in 2019.

How confident are you that T.J. Watt can turn into a Pro Browl-type player?
Ed Bouchette
2:08
Based on his rookie season, I think he's headed that way
DROWINS
2:09
Do you see Ben getting extended now that he has only 2 years left on his contract? Almost seems like with his recent comments he is testing the front office? Thoughts?
Ed Bouchette
2:09
I don't think that was a test, I think it was an honest reaction that many others also were thinking. I also don't think they will extend for practical reasons. They can do it next year. The last time they did a new contract, he was headed into his final season under contract

Given Steelers drama last season, why does Ben do radio shows where he's prone to saying controversial things? I assume he's paid to do so, but does he really need the money that badly? Better simply to play the game and stay off the radio?
Ed Bouchette
2:11
So, you want no athletes to ever go on the radio? How bland following sports that might be. It's not the money -- I believe it goes to his foundation -- but the fact that maybe he enjoys doing it.

What are your feelings on the Steelers banning all social media that pertains to the organization during the season?
Ed Bouchette
2:12
Funny, I still believe in the First Amendment

Good Day Sir
Is there a realistic chance that Rudolph supplants Jones as the backup QB this year? If Dobbs really shows some good development during preseason does the likelihood increase since we know Jones' (low) ceiling?
Ed Bouchette
2:13
While I don't think that will happen, I don't discount it either. If Mason Rudolph has a great camp and preseason games, rising to No. 2 would not be out of the question.

when 🛎 Bell  signs his franchise deal, do the Steelers have the right to trade him at any point up to the deadline?
Ed Bouchette
2:13
Once he signs, yes, they can.
But I would not look for it to happen

I’m basing this solely on the draft: Should we expect the defense to be in dime more frequently, and on earlier downs than we’ve seen in the past?
Ed Bouchette
2:14
They say they play their substitution defenses 70 percent of the time anymore. I think the dime (6 DBs) will be the norm with 3 safeties and 3 corners

do you know who was the number one safety rated by the steelers overall?? I know Colbert will say Edmunds. But the safety that was picked number one in the first round did Colbert have him rated higher?
Ed Bouchette
2:15
Dang, Kevin just won't tell me

2:15
Hi Ed and thank you. Whats your assessment of our safety situation? Adding Burnett/Edmunds/M.Allen along with Davis already there? Is it too much with other glaring needs? I.E - ILB, DL, OLB. Thank you sir
Ed Bouchette
2:16
They really needed an ILB, got a veteran there in free agency and none in the draft. They tried to go higher in the first round to get Evans but the Titans beat them to the punch. They had no other ILB rated high enough to draft him, so they opted to go elsewhere and 2 safeties were the result. It will be interesting to see how they use them but I fully expect them to move Sean Davis to free safety
43yrsteelerfan
2:16
Do you know if the steelers would of picked the ILB that Dallas picked in the first round over Evans?
