Ed Bouchette
1:57
Good afternoon, let's begin
Al in NJ
1:58
Ed, having full-time NFL officials sounds good in theory, but what exactly would they do all week throughout the year?
Ed Bouchette
1:59
They could look at film, I suppose. Maybe go over the rules. Have meetings. I don't think that would make for better officiating.

Ed, I really enjoy you when you are on the Dan Patrick show commenting on Steelers. Very insightful and entertaining. Do you do other shows? If so, who do believe is the best interviewer of them all?
Ed Bouchette
2:04
Dan is excellent. Plenty of others out there too. I always thought Greg Giannotti of Pittsburgh's The Fan and now with WFAN in New York was among the best
Chris
2:04
Hi Ed, to your knowledge was there anything going on with Ben And Porter that was a factor in him getting the ax, like Shannon Sharp implied.
Ed Bouchette
2:04
Not one bit
Jason
2:04
Hi Ed how would you grade Sean Davis and Terrell Edmunds performance last year? Do the Steelers feel confident with those safeties for the future?
Ed Bouchette
2:05
Edmunds did OK as a rookie as did Davis in his first year at free safety. The Steelers will expect much more from them next season and, yes, those two are it.

Will the tight end depth chart be the same next year?  Can McDonald move into the upper echelon of league TE's?
Ed Bouchette
2:06
McDonald, I  believe, can be one of the top tight ends in the league. They should throw to him more often. Jesse James can be a free agent unless he re-signs. We'll see.

Do you think all the “Steeler circus” comments are overblown a bit?  While this year has certainly been one we would better off erase from memory, all teams deal with drama and it is only magnified by social media.
Ed Bouchette
2:07
the "circus" mostly dealt with four players over the past 2 seasons -- Antonio Brown, Martavis Bryant, Le'Veon Bell and James Harrison. Two are gone and two more likely to be.

Say the steelers trade AB for a draft pick around the 15 to 19 range. could they package those to move up in hopes for devin white?
Ed Bouchette
2:09
They could, but the Steelers need more than one player. If they trade AB, they'll need a top-flight WR, one or 2 LBs and a cornerback, to name only four. I would not use two first-rounders to move up.

Saw that Riveron called Sean Payton to let him know that the ref blew the call on that controversial play.  Did any Steeler get such a call after the Steeler - N.O. game to let them know the refs blew a PI call in that game?
Ed Bouchette
2:10
Not that I've heard. That indeed was a terrible call. We've seen many others in 2018.

Since Tomlin's arrival, we've evolved from a team with minimum drama and many playoff wins to a team with endless drama & not many playoff wins... do you agree?
Ed Bouchette
2:12
I've covered this team as my beat since 1984. I've seen drama under Chuck Noll, Bill Cowher and Mike Tomlin. Can't all go into detail but you'll have to trust me that I've seen the equal under the two previous coaches at times. Antonio Brown skipped out on a week's worth of practices? Bubby Brister once refused to go into a game. Bell skipped a season? So did Mike Merriweather. In 2000 at minicamp, I entered the locker room after a practice and a full-fledged brawl broke out among the Steelers. Lots of drama through the years.
I've covered since 1985, not 84

Can your Boston Terrier swing a terrible towel? Mine can-
Ed Bouchette
2:13
No, but he could eat one
Tina Pristas
2:13
Ed,  with all the blame going around, why is Roethlisberger absolved from blame?  He did lead the League in picks.
Ed Bouchette
2:14
HIs percentage of interceptions against throws was among his lowest.

With Ryan Shazier lifting weights and jogging, do you really think he will return to play professional football? We will know if the Steelers do by whether they give him a player contract or not.
Ed Bouchette
2:14
No, you won't know because they could sign him to a one-year minimum deal, then put him on PUP and let him continue to work out and be around the team.

If Bob Kraft were the owner of the Steelers for the past 10-12 years do you think Mike T would still be the coach?
Ed Bouchette
2:17
Oh, so now Bob Kraft is a genius owner because Bill Belichick is his coach and Tom Brady is his quarterback? I have nothing against Kraft, but the question is irrelevant.

2:17
What are the most important offseason moves that need to be made?
Ed Bouchette
2:18
Trade Antonio Brown, let Le'Veon Bell become a UFA, sign one good UFA to help the defense, and draft a top-flight WR, CB and LB.
James Ryan
2:18
Hey Ed.. Thanks for the chats. At what point do you believe the AB trade talks could heat up? Do you think the Steelers are hoping time heals the wound?
Ed Bouchette
2:19
Antonio Brown leads the NFL in apologies, so I wouldn't believe anything he has to say if he apologizes again. Time to move on, get younger, renew the cycle.
ALB
2:19
Did officiating suddenly get terrible league-wide for no reason or is it the scrutiny of improved camera angles and ultra slow replay that makes them look so much worse?
Ed Bouchette
2:19
That and the fact I believe they have piled on so many rules that it's a tough game to officiate anymore. That does not excuse some of the blatant calls and non-calls, though.
Mark
2:19
Do the Steelers want Ben to do a weekly radio or do they leave that up to the player.
Ed Bouchette
2:20
That's his choice. Ain't America great
Brgill562
2:20
What time frame do you think they will trade AB?
Ed Bouchette
2:20
They cannot officially trade him until March 13. They can have an agreement with another team in place by then.
Epiballo
2:21
Am I wrong for loving the angst in New Orleans? I do not remember their owner noting how unfair it is for a team to lose a game because of a blown call when her team was the beneficiary.
Ed Bouchette
2:22
Karma. Or is it Karma Chameleon.
