OK kids, we're going to start our chat in just a few minutes so get those questions ready. It's been a while since we chatted.

Ok, here we go.....

Attended camp on Sunday and watched Big Ben and AB put in over 30 minutes of extra work.  Do they do that every practice?
Gerry Dulac
2:00
They do that a lot, especially AB. But Ben is usually an extra participant as well

Hi Gerry, given the lack of depth at LB, wouldn't it make sense to at least take a look at Jarvis Jones and potentially move him to his more natural LB position in the middle?
Gerry Dulac
2:01
No.

I realize it’s early.. has Brian Allen progressed in your opinion? Thanks
Gerry Dulac
2:01
Yes he has, and they like him. He has a lot of length and athleticism and can catch the ball, unlike some other DBs

What are your thoughts on why Tomlin always seems to get the benefit of the doubt.  He won 1 super bowl with a Cowher team and now has one of the most talented teams and fails to make it back to the sb.  He's a descent coach but way underachieving team year after year
Gerry Dulac
2:07
No team has won more Super Bowls than the Steelers, but -- the '70 Steelers and the Patriots and Tom Brady aside -- you're not going to win it every year, or every other year, or every 5 years or even every 10 years. Does that mean you underachieved every year because you didn't win the Super Bowl. I get the criticism. And there's a few things he does that I don't like or agree with. But he's more than a decent coach. His record and division titles prove that. Then again, Tampa Bay once fired Tony Dungy because he could never get the Bucs to the Super Bowl despite his winning records.

Great chat as always, Gerry. I had a question about Ryan Shazier. Once he recovers, would it make sense to move him to safety where we can better utilize his speed?
Gerry Dulac
2:10
You are making a great leap of faith that he will recover well enough to play football again. That, of course, would be the wonderful news of all, However, right now, everyone is thrilled with the progress he has made just to be able to walk on his own, albeit slowly and with a walking cane. He has been at camp just about every day and it'as great to see him moving like that, considering all that has happened.

Any idea what to make of attendance being down? I live out west and I had to give up a kidney to get Steelers @ Broncos tickets
Gerry Dulac
2:11
Too many prime-time games. The Steelers always lead the league w 5 appearances. Fans don't always want to go to night games, especially in November and December.

Gerry , in the short haul what is the most positive and surprising player or thing you have seen so far at the practices.
Gerry Dulac
2:13
Matthew Thomas, the rookie FA from Fla State, has looked good and aggressive at ILB. I like WR James Washington and what he does. Terrell Edmunds, of course, has been exactly what they thought

Gerry - Any word on how Burnett is doing?  Hope he is not Mitchell 2.0....
Gerry Dulac
2:14
Talked to him today. He has a hamstring injury that they're just being cautious with. He's a veteran so it's not like he needs to be on the field right now. They don't want to rush him back and have the same thing happen all over again

How's the safety from Penn State doing? Any chance they'd move him to MLB a la Brian Urlacher? He seems to have the size as compared to other safeties they have
Gerry Dulac
2:15
They like Marcus Allen a great deal, but they want to make sure he works hard to earn his keep. While he is bigger than most safeties, especially taller, he is not thivk enough to play inside as you suggest
Ryan Lanning

I live in Butler, people out here are lucky if they can find a mill to work at anymore, and LeVeon Bell is complaining about $15 mil a year? Rescind the tag immediately!
Gerry Dulac
2:17
It can rub people the wrong way. But don't blame him for his earning power

why not sign timmons
Gerry Dulac
2:19
Not happening. Not interested

Yinz have been spoiled by years of them winning, we need a good old fashioned Cowher slump to shape these fans up...3 years of 6 or less wins ought to do it

Now you're talking....

Gerry... Over / Under on same question about Bell and his contract?  LOL

I know it's early but does our defense look better at this stage than last year?
Gerry Dulac
2:19
You answered your own question -- it's early

So if the Steelers sign Bryant doesn’t that potentially limit Browns touches and precipitate another assault on the Gatorade bucket?  On the plus side the already have a uniform with Bryant on the back.
Gerry Dulac
2:20
That ain't happening either
Steve
2:20
Sorry, that last question about the defense was from me.
Gerry Dulac
2:20
OK

Hi Gerry, I feel like the national sports scene is once again sleeping on Ben. Maybe it's a factor of age, but most lists now have him outside of the top ten for people like Matt Ryan. What more does this guy have to do to get some respect, nationally?
Gerry Dulac
2:22
Agreed. Those lists are a joke. When some of those other QBs get to 3 Super Bowls and win two, then talk to me. Ridiculous. Matt Ryan is one of the most overrated QBs in the past 30 years. Right up there with Tony Romo.

what are the odds that a ILB becomes available of some interest ?
Gerry Dulac
2:23
You mean of one of interest becoming available or the Steelers signing one of interest if he becomes available. If it's the latter, don't be surprised to see the Steelers bring one in toward the end of camp

Gerry thanks for the chat.  I know there's been a lot of talk of Edmunds playing Safety in sub packages but would putting Edmunds or Burnett in an ILB in the base 3-4 alignment be an option?
Gerry Dulac
2:25
Probably not, but remember -- the Steelers are only in their base defense 25-30 percent of the time anymore. They are predominantly in one of their sub packages, which means those players are going to be on the field the majority of the time anyway
