hi i wanted to ask about the interview process at leeds and how it works. thanks
AvatarShauni

@Guest - for which particular course - they are all different :)

@Guest hi! Access to Leeds is the University of Leeds’ widening access scheme which guarantees special consideration for applicants whose personal circumstances have affected their ability to demonstrate their talent and potential through grades alone.

If you receive a standard offer for your chosen course here at Leeds, you will also receive an Access to Leeds offer which is typically two A-level grades or equivalent below the standard offer. This alternative offer is conditional upon successful completion of the Access to Leeds module and making the University of Leeds your firm choice.

Hi,  I was wandering if we are going to get more information throughout the program on how to apply for student loans and of we are going to learn how to make a CV and a cover letter?

@Ekram hello! Yes definitely - we'll go through student finance and scholarships in Y13 to make sure you get the right info for your year group. Sign up to Life Skills events where we'll help you look at CV and Cover Letters :)

Hi @Guest. If you receive a standard offer from the University of Leeds you may also receive an Access to Leeds offer which is reduced by two grades. For example, a standard offer of AAA would become ABB through A2L.

How much emphasis do universities put on GCSE grades for standard medicine and medicine with a gateway year?
AvatarShauni
4:06
@Guest  at Leeds you need: GCSE: 6 A*- B or 9 - 5 including Chemistry and Biology (or Dual Science/Double Science), English Language and Mathematics for Medicine

@Guest
We believe that the face-to-face interview is an extremely valuable process for identifying the highest quality possible candidates. We interview as many people as we can, but can usually only see just over 1000 applicants each year. The interview will allow us to assess further your non-academic qualities (the personal qualities that have been demonstrated by successful students on this programme) and communication skills. On the day of interview you will also have the opportunity to look around the School of Medicine and meet current students.
Each applicant will participate in a Multiple Mini-Interview (MMI) process, which is the same for all applicants. Research has shown that applicants find the format makes them less anxious than the traditional interview and MMI does not require any preparation or clinical knowledge.
The MMI process consists of eight different stations. Each station will last six minutes with one minute to move between stations and read the next task.

As Medicine is a very competitive scheme, your GCSEs will be looked at!

Hi

I want to do radiography at university. If i don't manage to get one week work experience in the radiography department will i still  be accepted on the course
AvatarJames

@Guest The format of the stations varies. Some stations will ask you to discuss information on the UCAS form and most stations involve discussion with the examiner, or may require you to write down some information or to interact with an actor who will be playing a role. The skills that will be assessed will include ethical reasoning, self-evaluation, communication skills and problem solving. At one station applicants are asked to take part in a discussion based around their BMAT Section 3 essay.
At the end of each station, the examiners award marks according to a pre-determined standardised scale. After the completion of all eight stations a ranked score will be calculated.

hi, I was wondering if my events I complete during the program can count towards realising oppourtunities as well as im on both.
AvatarJames

@Guest - yes events on RfE count towards RO also - we let the RO team know after each event block which RO students have attended

how many events will be running this year
AvatarShauni

@Guest work experience is really helpful, but University's understand it can be difficult to get! Think of the skills you will need and try seeking out other types of work experience if you are struggling i.e. working with the elderly, working with young people. These can all be helpful even if you can't get a  specific radiography placement

Hi @guest. Being nervous is totally understandable, but just remember that everyone else is in exactly the same boat as you. Plus, we're a super friendly team and we'll do our best to make you feel at home. RfE is all about trying new things so I reckon you should just take the plunge and sign up!!
