Greets, all ... great seeing you all again through your many questions! Lots going on; let's see how many I can get to over the next hour.

Hi Brent, NL only 5x5 (early but I  think I need hr, rbi and sb more) rate for rest of season, please…Harrison Bader ,Jacob young ,andy pages ,Andrew mccutchen
Brent Hershey
12:05
Bader, Pages, Young, Cutch -- mostly in confidence of playing time. Realizing that Bader carries a good bit of injury risk, but seems to be a lineup staple. Encouraged by Pages' start so far, though, given LA's propensity to share rookie PT in the past.

Do you think Luis Garcia Jr might outhit his projections?
Brent Hershey
12:07
His skills gains early on would be the type of development that would allow him to do that, yes. The fact that WAS is running a lot as a team also helps that cause. Interested to see how much he plays against LHP here in the near future.

Hi! Like many fantasy managers, my pitching is a wreck! In 12-tm, H2H category, annky interest in  Albert Suarez, Jose Soriano or Kyle Hurt as best short term (or possibly longer) help! Thanks!
Brent Hershey
12:09
Yes to those first two, especially. No sure things but the type of stuff one should go after in this environment. Hurt's shoulder injury gives me some pause.

Who you dropping to pick up Orelvis Martinez: Brett Baty or Jared Kelenic
Brent Hershey
12:10
I'm probably holding onto both; but if I have to choose, I'd jettison the current platoon player (Kelenic)

Happy Monday, Brent! Fun question right out of the yates, er, gates ...

Thoughts on Kirby Yates? His 2nd year back from TJS ... has done "it" before at a high level. Chances he keeps the closer all season and can contribute to a "league winner?"
Brent Hershey
12:15
Yes, I think there's that chance. Moreso that some other unsettled CL spots (Cubs, Brewers, etc) because 1) his history that you mention; 2) championship-caliber club should provide plenty of opps; 3) a manager who seems to prefer settling on one guy and going with them.

Good morning, all! Brent, I'll need to prune my roster soon for IL guys coming back and could use your help. In a dynasty/H2H league where both AVG and OBP are 2 of the 6 offensive categories, who do you prefer over the next 3 or so years between ...

1) Curtis Mead or Bo Naylor?
2) Dylan Crews or Roman Anthony?
3) Brendan Donovan or Luis Arraez?

Bonus question: Sell (slight low) or buy (low) on Max Fried?

THANK YOU!
Brent Hershey
12:18
1) Mead
2) Crews
3) Arraez

Bonus: Dynasty cycle-dependent. If you're in the mix this year, I'd take a shot at buying low. If you're in any part of the rebuild cycle, I'd look to move and get younger.

My dear sir, what is wrong with Nolan Jones?
Brent Hershey
12:20
Ugh; was pondering this myself this morning in the one league I have him rostered. Truly, the signs were there that 2023 was over his head (strikeout rate, mainly; which is why I only have him ino one league) and things have only gotten worse on that end. Brutal team context doesn't help, either.

Gotta ask ... how good can Ceddanne Rafaela be? Buy in while you can??

The plate approach has be wary but the power/speed/vers seems to make him a long-term hold ..

Any wisdom?? =)
Brent Hershey
12:22
Yeah, I'm tentatively in, mostly b/c the speed ceiling is high, and his defense (flexibility, but also quality) should give him a playing time floor. Do need to watch this week, though, with O'Neill returning. Can't expect a plus-BA, but secondary skills should drive his fantasy value.

12:24
Bryan Woo had a good rehab start. Is he a must add in a 14 team league?
Brent Hershey
12:24
Not sure he's a "must" b/c it's still just one start. The second should tell us a ton more. But really questions like these are league-dependent—how important it is to get guys rostered before they get activated in your league. Woo was a big target of yours truly in draft season, so I'm here for it.

12:27
What's your level of concern on Yandy Diaz?
Brent Hershey
12:27
Not much at this point, as his contact rate is the same as last year and he's getting BABIP'd a bit, so I expect the BA to come back. The problem of course is that he doesn't run, and is not a huge power guy ... so when the one plus-plus skill he does have (hit tool/BA) suffers, you feel it more. But I'm still preaching patience in general for this one.

Hi Brent, 10 team mixed, 5x5 league.  Any thoughts on Jackson Holliday?  I'm considering Joey Loperfido, and dropping Holliday?  Is this an 'excruciating patience' situation?
Brent Hershey
12:31
Until Loperfido comes up and is playing, you definitely should hang onto Holliday (assuming that you're benching him for now). And even then I'm not sure I'd jump Holliday ship. Now in a 10-teamer, if you're actively rostering Holliday b/c of rules or whatever, then there's probably better bets in the FA pool. But otherwise, yes, patience.

Rafaela or Clement? AL-only 5x5

Candelario going through a rough patch, will he likely recover to close to last year's results with the Reds?
Brent Hershey
12:33
I'm a bit skeptical; worry about that elbow injury that pulled him from a game a few weeks ago. Came right back ... but part of me wonders if that's still lingering. I'd do a before/after comparison; think it happened during the Phillies series. Total speculation, mind you, but could be that he feels he should play through given all the Reds IF injuries. Let's hope not.

For this week, would you rather activate I. Happ (hamstring) or Olivares in NL-only 5x5?  Long-term, do you think it likely that Olivares will play regularly and hit >.750 OPS this year?
Brent Hershey
12:36
I'd probably go Happ ... though have been curiously watching Olivares and wondering if PIT will be the team to give him consistent run. Until they do, hope for a Healed Happ Hammy.
Nick Castellanos
12:39
What's up with me?  Just a slow start?
Brent Hershey
12:39
Great perspective from a beat writer Matt Gelb who wondered for many of the Phils, if the pre-season focus on not chasing balls off the plate took away some of the aggressiveness of the lineup. Castellanos was one who especially has looked a bit "in between" here in the early going. Some better swings during the last homestand .. though COL + CHW pitching not exactly a formidable foe. Overall yes, just a slow start -- he's a streaky hitter and he's been cold -- very cold -- so far.

Good morning, Brent.  What are your thoughts on Nestor Cortes in a 12-team mixed?  Do we need to see more before he is a rotation foundation?
Brent Hershey
12:40
Think he's viable there. "Foundation" status just depends on your other roster options.

How much longer do the Guardians need to play service time games with Manzardo? They seem to be playing questionable talent at DH/1B every day
Brent Hershey
12:44
Point taken ... partially. A bit confused by calling Josh Naylor and his 1.017 OPS start a "questionable talent." Given Manzardo's weekend and where we are in the calendar, yes I'd expect to see him soon. These service time games are not going away; just a part of every team's business model.

Hi Brent, love your analysis.  Am I a decent pickup for two starts this week against LAA and OAK?  Have my journeys around the world led to better pitchability than most assume?
