Good day, all. My name is Will Fenton and I'm the Assistant Director of Graduate Admissions at Penn Engineering. I'm here to answer questions you may have about our Graduate Programs, life as a graduate student at Penn and living in Philadelphia.

Sean, unfortunately I don't know. I've been told that they may release more by the end of this week, but because the program is split between Engineering and Design, I can't say for sure, as both schools have to make the decisions on the applicants.

Himanshu, we are releasing decisions this Friday, April 19, as well as May 1 and May 15. You will receive your decision on one of those days. I can't say specifically which day, unfortunately.

Last year the rate was about 9%. It was the first year we offered the program and it has proven to be very popular.

Good Morning, Will.  This is Yuxin Tang, an applicant for MSE. scientific computing program. I have a question about course schedule. For the title thesis/practicum(Bucket A), is machine learning with the application in the field of risk management a potentially approved area for research?

Yuxin, unfortunately I can't say, as thesis topics are approved on a per-student basis, after consultation and discussion between the student, the program coordinator, the academic faculty advisor and the thesis advisor, if the latter will be different.

Hey Will, I have few questions related to program...... What is the total batch size of a MSE Data Science Program?  How many offers have been made so far in this term? ... Are there any chances that the program has spots for the applications which applied in March 15 deadline

Himanshu, I don't know what the batch size will be because we are still making application decisions. Yes, there are still opportunities for those that applied by the March 15 term, and finally, we don't release numbers for the current application cycle.

Nahee, we did make all efforts to release the decisions on 4/15, but it was not guaranteed. Ultimately it is up to the dept as to when they make decisions. I'm sorry if you did not receive one, but I can tell you that we will be sending out additional decisions today.

Hi Will! I have applied for the direct-PhD program of MEAM. Last week I contacted the department and was notified that my application is on hold for funding. I am wondering if you can provide some information on my chance of being admitted if I choose to transfer into master application in this situation. And if I do so, how long could I except to receive a decision? Thanks!

Hi Michael, we don't normally allow an applicant to "transfer," in to a master's program at this point, unless the department explicitly makes this request. That is extremely rare.
