Hello! I am almost done with my application form and had a last minute query on the employment section. I am currently employed at a leading consulting firm since March 2017 and plan to continue working there for the next six months or so.  I was previously employed at another firm for about six months. I have included the details of my previous firm in this section. Do I need the state my current employer details as well? If so, should I mention the last date as a later date (say May 2020?)

Please do mention your current employer. You don't have to put in a date when you will stop working, but that is entirely up to you.

Thanks for the clarification Will! Does a N/A in the Reason for Leaving section work in this case?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
8:13
Yes, that should be fine I believe.

I entered my name, but it does'nt appear!!

Hi Nikhil. I can see your name. What questions do you have?
Guest

For PhD program, I had a question of the case when the interested faculties in the application happen to be not interested in taking PhD students. Would in that case the application get rejected straightaway or is the application going to be considered by other facuties as well?
Thank you
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir

Hi Guest. It really depends on the program. Some only have faculty that are taking students review the applications, whereas others will have a larger committee reviewing the applications. This would not usually be the deciding factor in a decision for/against you. However, if that is coupled with wanting to study a topic that only that professor is working on, it could decrease your chances.

I am planing to apply today 15 Nov   for MSE in DS as early deadline. Is there any binding if we are offered and we don't accept?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
8:18
No, the offer is not binding. We say that on the website, I believe.

Hi Will! The name on my transcript is 'Shrihari S', but the name on my passport, GRE and TOEFL scores are 'Shrihari Srikanthan'. I've applied for MCIT with my passport name. Will this be a problem for my admission? I'm pretty worried.
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
8:21
Shrihari, this should not be a problem. But just in case, please send an email to admissions2@seas.upenn.edu, explaining this. Then there will be no problem at all.

How are the GRE scores matched with my profile?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
8:22
Hi Guest, they are matched to your application after it is submitted. We have an automatic test-matching system. However, if this doesn't work, we will manually match your scores. It works in about 85% of cases, and we take care of the rest.

After admission I can wish to not to endorse and it will not have any impact on applying to other universities in USA or other IV league universities
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
8:22
Nikhil, that is correct.

Thank you Will, one more question is regarding the LOR. If any recommender misses the deadline, then would in that case application be rejected?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
8:23
Guest, no, you would not be rejected. This is only the early deadline. If the application is not complete, then the application is moved to the regular deadline pool, where the deadline is March 15.

The webiste mentions that Attendance is not compulsory which was not clear to me
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir

Ah, ok. Thanks for letting us know. We have considered changing the wording to say "non-binding," but we had people get confused over that as well.

Are the applications considered on first come first serve basis for doctoral programs or they would be reviewed together after the 15 Dec deadline
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
8:24
Guest, they are usually all reviewed together after the Dec 15 deadline.

Hello Sir
1)I wanted to apply for Masters in Embedded Systems but their site says that they are not accepting admissions from the FALL 2020 term. Any specific reason for this?
2)So now I am planning to apply for Electrical Engineering MSE, so will I be allowed to do a specialization in Embedded systems ? How many courses from embedded systems program will I be allowed to take ?
3) Since the deadline for Electrical Engineering is February, will my application be reviewed early if I apply early? Any advantages of applying early?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
8:26
1) Our engineering program decided to move in another direction. While several of the courses remain, they will now fall under the Electrical and Systems Engineering program or the CIS/CIT programs.
8:27
2) At this point we don't have a specialization for that listed, but it is something you'd be able to discuss with the faculty advisor. You can email the program at esegrad@seas.upenn.edu and they should be able to give you a more specific answer.
8:28
3) No, for all programs with the February 1 deadline, applications are reviewed after that date.
