My name is Xiaocheng Wang and I have been admitted to System Engineering Program of 2019 fall. Actually I am quite interested in another program called Robotics.

My question is whether I can transfer from system engineering to Robotics? If not can I apply a dual degree for both program?
Thank you very much.

Xiaocheng, good day. You can apply to transfer to the Robotics program after you have completed at least one semester in the Systems program and done so in good standing. You can also apply for a dual degree for both programs, and again, would have to wait until you've completed at least one semester in the Systems program in good academic standing.

Good morning Will and Miranda! For on campus housing, I wonder what is kitchen co-op for samson place? and what is the acceptance rate of samson place application?

Hello Will! I am admited to the Electrical Engineering masters program and wanted to know about the class size for Fall 19 at ESE ?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:05
Arth, last year we had 86 students start in the fall. We won't know the class size for Fall 2019 until classes start

Hi Will, I read the graduation requirement of mechanical engineering. What’s seminar as stated in the requirement? It that a course?

Thank you for your reply! So the key to transferring to Robotics is obtaining good grades.
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir

Xiaocheng, that is one of the most important aspects, yes.

Parth
10:07
Hi, my name is Parth and I have been admitted into the Electrical Engineering masters program, and was wondering what the course duration will end up being and whether students typically pursue internships in the summer?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:08
Hi Parth, well it's 10 courses in length, so the "duration," is ultimately up to how you structure the courses. As for internships, some do pursue them - it really depends on if you're an international student or not and then may also depend on your visa status.

Hi Miranda, besides the off-campus link of UPenn (which is VERY helpful), which other resources or websites are recommended for off-campus housing search? is there certain districts current students stay right now?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:11
Emma, I can let you know that students live all over the city, but the majority would be relatively close to campus.

Hi Will, a question for a friend
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:09
Go right ahead, Alex.
Jacobian
10:09
Yes, Will, that’s what I mean.
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir

Jacobian, I believe the seminars you're required will be related to your concentration for the program. But ultimately, you'll want to ask the Program Coordinator, Camille Osborne, at camilleo@seas.upenn.edu. She can answer that more specifically.

Hello Will, I got accepted for the MSE in Chemical and Bimolecular Engineering. I was curious about how many applied/got accepted for this year.
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:12
Jingyu Tang, we don't release the application stats for the current application cycle, but I can tell you last year, we had 192 apply and accepted 52

Hi Will a question for a friend.  Does admissions put weight on independent online courses taken, like Coursera, for admission?  If so, how much weight?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:13
Alex, each dept has their own specific way of making admissions decisions, but if they courses are not taken for any type of credit, generally speaking, they won't have a lot of weight.

Hi Emma! The kitchen co-op is a program for students living in single rooms without kitchens. A group of students are given access to a single apartment that has been converted into a kitchen/community space so that they can cook meals. The students are responsible for the upkeep of the kitchen. More information is at http://cms.business-services.upenn.edu/residential-services/applicatio...
Neha
10:10
Hello, my name is Neha and I have been admitted into the BioE MSE program. I was wondering if it is possible to get a certificate while getting your masters? For example a certificate in data analytics?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:14
Neha, it may be possible to get certificates that are offered by other schools here at UPenn, but Penn Engineering doesn't really do that.

Regarding the acceptance rate for Sansom Place, the housing application is first come, first served, so we recommend that students apply promptly to have the best chance of securing their preferred room types. Different room types vary in competitiveness
10:12
Hi Emma! For off-campus housing, we refer everyone to the Off-Campus Services website

Hi Will! I have a question regarding the Category D Elective subjects. It's mentioned in the Degree Requirements that a student needs to obtain permission from his department to apply for courses in Law school or Wharton. So my question is, what is the procedure for applying and are ther any prerequisites to be fullfiled?

Arth, this process can vary by program, so you'll need to speak with the Program Coordinator, Christina Burton. You can email her at esegrad@seas.upenn.edu.
